Anyone know home theater systems?

Looking to buy a new receiver that has multiple zones.

I have 4 zones, but I can turn each zone off at the zones.
I basically am looking for a good quality two zone system 4k pass through and 3d capable.

If you don't mind used check out ebay. I picked up a Denon 1913 for $260 and it was new in box.

I was also looking at a Yamaha 673.

My biggest need was more dual zone over 4k which I don't think the denon has but the 673 should.

Hey there. Home Theater is another Hobbie of mine. ;) A nice way to add anywhere from 3-6 zones in your home is to buy a switch. I have one of these and love being able to easily switch zones by pressing a button. Plus you don't have to buy a new receiver typically...

Are you looking to upgrade to 3D capable spefically?

My system is currently 3d.

I would like to upgrade to a good quality receiver. I love music and movies.
4k pass through is a plus for when i upgrade the tv.

I don't currently have a receiver. using our blueray/surround sound system. its okay... but not enough

The 773 is supposed to be a great receiver also.

Bucs_fan are you using the ipad/iPhone app to control your receiver. Specifically in zone 2. That was a big plus for me choosing over others. Mine comes in Monday and hope that app works as advertised.

I think most newer receivers are 4k ready but worst case scenario you can do the switching at the tv level. I am debating myself switching at the av level or tv for PS4 and DTV I currently go through the tv with no issues.

Also be careful with Yamaha they have what they call zone B and zone 2. From my understanding Zone b is an extension of zone A where zone 2 can play a seperate audio source while zone 1 plays another.

I just need something that I can plug my blu ray into, xbox into. and cd player.
plus what ever else. min 5 inputs.

1 hdmi out

having optical audio out is beneficial for me as well.( gaming head sets. ).

2-3 zones. but stay under 700 thats my cap

Wifi is a bonus but not end of the world if it doesn't have it. but it must have ethernet

Team Freddy: all of my equipment is in a closet on the other side of my living room. So I bought a harmony remote to control all of the devices. There is also an app. So my iPhone or iPad can control the system as well.

?

This is totally accurate. In my last house, I had four zones. A receiver to do that would have (a) been very expensive and (b) complex as heck. I think I may still have my old switch in the garage. I'll take a look tonight. How common would it be to need more than two separate channels of programming running through the receiver?

probably not what you are looking for but I really like my car stereo head unit surround sound setup. +1 on the A/V switch box. I used a switch box in my last house for a projector setup in the den having a projector with only a few video inputs the switch box made it easy to switch between computer, xbox, satellite, & blue ray player.

I believe a Denon AVR-X2000 would suit your needs quite nicely and MSRP is $649. While I'm sure it can be found for less, I'd be reluctant to buy from anyone that's not authorized. The HDMI boards that all the new receivers include are more susceptible to damage so they're not as rock solid reliable as the receivers of yore.

After burning through 2 Newcastle receivers, ended up pairing an Onkyo TX-NR818 with a Samsung 64" 3D plasma, and have been very happy.

Considering the price difference on new to refurb I would jump on this. Only thing that would stop me from purchasing is feedback I have gotten from peers saying stuff like "its not like it used to be" etc.. This could also be on their "entry" level receivers when compared to others in the same pricerange.

If It meets all your needs and fits your budget I dont think you will go wrong. If there is a Smart Phone app it will make the receiver that much sweeter. I started using the app for my Denon and all i could think of is "wow this is great" especially when you can control volume and what plays out of zone 2 through your phone.

If you decide to insure it past the 1 year factory check out squaretrade. I went on slickdeals and search squaretrade and used one of their coupons for 35% off and was able to insure it for 2 years for like $38.

If you dump the Xbox for a PS4, whatever you get will be better! :)

Like Derek, I also have an Onkyo TX-NR818 and it is one of the best I've had.

Good luck!
