Ot: Lakers vs Magic

IMO if the Magic add VC and Sheed, they will become the Dallas Mavs..acquiring players that were once all stars and now has beens doesn't equate to championships..did you not learn anything from watching the Lakers when they had Gary Payton, Karl Malone and Shaq? Shaq was the only one in his prime at that point and they ended that season in disaster. Why do you think the Mavericks never get anywhere year after year. They should keep Courtney Lee and develop his game and have Alston come off the bench. Lots of potential in Lee.

VC and sheed are NOTHING like Malone and payton. They were both on their absolute last leg, and were asked to be STARTERS. While Sheed may be towards the last couple years of his career, he wouldnt be so depended upon. VC is still a viable star, and top 25 player in the league. So lets not compare the 4.

I agree with Courtney Lee, I think hes going to be a good player for a real long time. New Jersey has their young back court set for a good while now. Alston wasnt staying either way, and thats going to benefit the team. You saw how having Alston and Nelson both destroyed the chemistry of the team (mainly leaving a 85% nelson in). At least now there is no mistaking who is the starter and who (anthony johnson) is the back up.

I'm probably too hopeful for this trade. VC's just been my guy since his rookie year. From cards, to jerseys, to shoes... Now hes going to be on my team. I will be very interested to see if Orlando keeps Hedo or tries for another big, even though they got Ryan Andersen. Andersen isnt by any means a star, but he doesnt make much cash, and should come off the bench to spell lewis decently.

We shall see how this season turns out, it'll be interesting. FWIW, Dicky V picked San Antonio Vs. Cleveland in the finals lol.

On another note, little punk Ricky Rubio is threatening to hold out and play in Spain because Minnesota drafted him. He wanted to be in a bigger market. Im Sure Blake Griffin didnt want to go to the clippers. What a little punk, he should be grateful he was drafted #5. He averaged something like 20 minutes and 6 points and 6 assists last year, obviously he couldnt even make a big impact in a subpar league. What a punk. You want a proven, nice passing, overall good guy (minus the head slap) Skip to My Lou has nicer passes, and a better shot than Rubio. Hate that kid.... Thats why you dont draft little 150 lb girls who wear eyeliner.

This had to be the worst draft since 2003-2004. Besides Blake Griffin, name me one person in the top 10 picks that "might" one day become an All-Star...Doesnt look very good IMO

ok Joe, but we're just trying to help your team get better, not worse so that at least we can get SOME competition in the finals..if you want to let go of your ONLY clutch player (Turk) and acquire Vince Payton and Sheed Malone, then by all means enjoy watching the playoffs from your second round elimination premiere seats ;)

(I dont know which draft you are referring to, but 2003 or 2004 werent bad drafts) But Im going to disagree. I dont know why people were so upset and down on this draft. Ok, so there arent going to be a ton of stars, but there are a lot of GOOD players.

All Stars:
Griffin, Thabeet, Flynn, Curry, Terrance Williams.

Good players:
Lawson, Dajuan Blair, Sam Young, Tyreke Evans, Hansbrough, AJ Price, Dante Cunningham.

There was a solid wealth of players from 15-45. It was a great draft for the teams who were already decent to good. IT wasnt a great draft for teams trying to look for that one star, with a few exceptions.

I think VC will benefit us because he doesnt JUST shoot the three. He gives us that option of driving the ball to the hoop and scoring. Orlando has TOO MANY three point shooters. Lewis, Nelson, pietrus and reddick are still very good three point shooters. Im hoping theres another move in the works for Orlando. Adding a Sheed Wallace so he can win another title would be an outstanding move.

You already have the option of driving to the basket and scoring, and his name is Hedo. He's an impossible player to defend because most big guys can't stay with him and don't want to play that far away from the basket anyways, and he can post up most small forwards. Every time he touched the ball in the finals, he was either double teamed, or drove to the basket at will. I don't see VC doing any of this.

Maybe we were watching a different postseason. Hedo didnt drive the ball as much as he should have. Who scored the buckets to stop the 16-0 run, or even 8-0 runs the opponents were going on? Not Hedo or Lewis, so obviously we need that guy to put up a bucket and stop the bleeding. I dont expect the haters to like the trade.

HATERS? US?
Surely you jest..
Pot calling the kettle black?
Last time I checked, this still IS a Lakers thread..and you still ARE a Laker Hater..
c'mon Joe, you're making this too easy for us..
(still innocent digs so no worries mods)

lol..true-true..
but most of us don't hate the Magic, we just wish they would be better so that the Lakers don't just prance through the finals, or shall i say "skip to my lou" to victory..

I can't remember the last time I got worried when facing a Wince Carter-equipped team. Raptors? Nets?

I hope they keep Turk though.

xtm- hahaha wince carter.

sorry, jflip- face the facts. your team just gambled HARD and crapped out. in turk's (and courtney lee and alston) place is a very uninspired example of a world of talent wasted. your boy vince, is an overpaid, over the hill ticket draw that will disappear at every crucial moment other than in a contract year. what you needed was a real power forward and all you got was a PO'ed turk (your team's true finals mvp) who decided to walk after hearing who his new wingmate would be.
also, 09-10 'sheed:laker's malone is a great comparison, imo. malone and payton weren't exactly spring chickens in the previous season before arriving in los angeles... but they were pretty productive... come to think of it, sheed's production and energy looked horrible last year. he's a shell of himself. you're right it's a bad comparison... cause sheed ALREADY looks like malone once he got to the lakers.

oh and your argument about the cavs not getting much better is sooooooo weak. all they gave up were 2 non factors to get shaq and you think the net result won't be much more than even? are you kidding man? he played great next year... and you're right- cavs are not a running team. lebron will make perfect use of him. like all those times the offense went dry in the ecf- play lebron at pf, create double teams and then dump it into shaq for the big dunk when dwight commits to the double on lebron. but i'm getting ahead of myself... you guys prob wont even get into the ECF

After rethinking vince is a good fit. He runs the pick and roll like no other. And that is what the magic do best. Only thing is they lost 4 players. With an already weak bench. If you think that sheed is your answer good luck. Instead of sheed they should try to get marcus camby frm the clippers or Tyson chandler frm the hornets. No one here hates the magic they just like busting your chops. Heck I love the magic as my lakers won an easy championship because of them. All I know next year is going to be fun. I hope lAmar keeps his word and takes less money so we can resign him ( and another reason I love the magic) ariza. Ariza has so much pottential he is only 23. He improved so much in one year. Thank you orlando magic. For the shaq championships and now the ariza era. I love the magic

Lets not get the facts confused
1: Alston was gone one way or another. $5m for a reserve PG, especially when the coach doesnt know how to divi up the playing time isnt feasible.

2: Hedo was opting out of his contract...... PERIOD. Vince being signed was AFTER Orlando threw a figure to Hedo, if you do some reading.

3: Again, you are missing the point. Sheed wouldnt be asked to be a major contributor. Be a 4 to stretch the floor a little, to make up for the versatility lost with Hedo. The Raptors WERE one missed VC shot away from going to the finals the year the 76ers went, if you remember that correctly.

4: I didnt say the Cleveland trade didnt benefit them. They got the better end of the deal, they are just paying more in salary. Shaq is just going to clog the lane, at least Z opened it up. So yeah, nice addition.... its not the answer to get past Orlando or Boston, though.

Kai, Ive voiced my displeasure about dumping Lee, a nice developing player. But while Ryan Andersen isnt the best player in the world, he is comparably to Tony Battie and makes less than $1.5m a year, while Battie makes $6.3m. Alston being included was to help relieve some of the Salary from our cap. Id have to say Orlando's bench was pretty deep last year. Reddick, Pietrus, Battie, Gortat, Alston, Johnson.

(skip to my lou to victory is a low blow lol)

So long Trevor Ariza.... lets just hope he doesnt go to the Cavs. Rumos is the Cavs are talking to Artest and Ariza, likely to sign one. Orlando just took a step back with either one of them signed. Rasheed Wallace is also looking like he may be a Celtic.... I guess we'll have to be the underdog again this coming up year.

man, ariza needs to stop screwing around. the best place for him right now is in LA... but if hes not happy there then im sure he will get a big check and lots of PT anywhere else he decides to go.

if he goes to the cavs, that team could be in the dump in 2 years

The Lakers wont pay more than the $5.5m mid level exemption to him... He'll get a good $8m in the market I bet.
