Fiance and I caved in and bought a desktop and went with a mac. So far I am happy and the thought that if it last 10 years that saves me atleast $70 a year for antivirus. So far I am happy with it but that is just a couple hours of messing around with it.

Anyone else have them, and how do you like them?

I used to do the whole PC thing, but now I am all Apple. 27" Imac, 13" MacBook Pro, 11" Macbook Air, Airport Extreme, Apple TV, Ipod Touch, and as soon as the iPhone gets LTE on Verizon I'll have that too.

I use a PC at work (Windows 7) and I can't believe how far behind Windows is in terms of GUI and just simple functionality.

I've owned several and love them and am also all Apple; iPod, iPad iPhone, iMac, and MacBook pro. I would never buy a PC again, even though I use them at work. Only one program I use is not compatible, and I just use Parallels software to run it. MAC office is pretty good, but does take getting used to. Good luck!!'

Macbook here and I use em all Linux, Winblows, and Mac and I love linux, mac is pretty much the same except a little more locked down. Had my macbook for a few years ow and my girl has been through 2 winblows lappys in the time Ive had this one. only thing is my battery holds a charge for like an hour but again its a few years old and should be replaced

there are free antiviruses, i never pay for anti virus, or tech support either. Im a PC man. time to play some Some TF2, Ill brb.

Nice good to hear.
We picked up the 21.7" monitor one. Picked up the I WORK today for it aswell. Need that to print out wedding stuff.
This does take a little bit to get use to, but very easy to operate. The last time i used a mac was Oregon Trail back in grade school with the big grey box and green graphix

Any torrent site will work. You can use Transmissions which is a free app. Works 1000000x better than bit torrent.

I am not that computer savy, do you still get aps on your computer or is this something you would put on your phone and transfer to computer. If you can Pm me the info.

As far as torrenting goes us utorrent from utorrent.com and to search for media btjunkie.com or thepiratebay.org . And skunk I agree Windows man here I've tried macs and the inability to alter your own digital or hardware property is a joke. The only people who go through Windows pcs every few years and claim it broke because of this and blame stuff on windows are the in educated. I haven't had a virus in 12 years and I'm 25 so that would take us back to the late 90s. I've had my same pc for over 8 years now for just media and my newest one I built 3 years ago now. And a netbook. If you want a pc for daily use that is idiot proof for internet email MAC is the way to go. If you want functionality of pc doing to replace every media device in your home windows pc is the way to go. Macs are costly to fix and the new ones you can't even change the hard drive yourself if it fails it must be brought in. Source. http://m.gizmodo.com/5801275/you-cant-upgrade-the-hard-drive-in-the-new-imacs its a sad day when Apple sues every competitor for fear of loosing market share in phone technology. Or when they screw the little guy by http://technologizer.com/2011/05/11/apples-e-book-policy-claims-an-early-victim/
I know you had the best intentions opening this thread but its just one that always starts battles between pro MAC and pro windows. And to be honest I've only ever encountered one maybe two knowledgeable MAC users to argue the plus sides of them against the cosiderable downsides. I weep for the future of pcs if people don't wake up and realize you pay a premium for the MAC because they have made it very difficult for the common person to mess up but at a fraction of the cost you can build a dyi pc and have it for far greater lifespan just by educating yourself. It's like jumping into our hobby without reading and putting fish in the tank right after you mixed the water or any number of the dumb stuff on the "dumbest thing you have heard in a lfs" thread. I've said my peace good day.

^^^ Spoken like a true Windows/PC fanboy. I look at this argument like the Vortech vs. Tunze argument. When you eliminate all the fanboys from the equation the situation looks like this:

A Vortech (Apple) can do 98% of what any Tunze (PC) can do right out of the box and a whole lot more. It does this at a slight cost jump, but you also get it all right the first time in one sleek, space saving, efficient package. The Tunze (PC) user will argue to the death that their product is better because it can do something like 360° rotation (hardcore gaming/better graphics card) that the normal Vortech (Apple) user will never have a use for because their package does't need the feature because it was better designed to have a wider and more efficient flow (no need for gaming/better user interface, operating system, etc.) in the first place.

There is nothing wrong with a DIY PC, but I have seen your monster tower and have no place for something like that on or around my desk. My 27" Imac has 1440p resolution w/LED backlit screen, takes up no space, no energy, has a 1tb internal hard drive, and looks a hell of a lot better then ANY PC doing it. Sure I can't go and do any hardcore gaming (well actually with the quad core i5 processor, 8gb ddr3 RAM, and AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB GDDR5 graphics card I probably can) but that's what I have an Xbox360 (only thing Microsoft got right) for. Also with my Apple TV and Itunes interface the Imac does indeed replace early every media device in my home.

I weep for the PC users that are too stubborn to try an Apple computer and see what they are really missing out on. Because like Chad said, once you go Mac you never go back. It is simply a better all around product, but unless that Tunze (PC) user drops the cash to try that Vortech (Apple) they will never know.

Work has converted me and I now have my Macbook Pro, iPad, iPhone, and my wife now wants a Macbook for his birthday. Ted is dead on in that, you might pay a few bucks more, but Macs do a hell of a job with everything. The packaging, build, is second to none.

I'm actually jealous because she'll get the new MacBook Air while I still have my Macbook Pro... those airs are awesome.

+1 nearly all ISP's give you free Norton suites or McAfee (Comcast, AT&T, etc), no need to even use the free stuff online, like AVG, etc...

it's amazing how most people have no idea this is offered free (i.e. not really it's part of your fee, but essentially free)

Spoken like a true mac hipster. The vortech tunze analogy is terrible. If your arguing power the windows pc will always be more powerful as far as components for the price. If your arguing just parts bot windows and mac can have the exact same components with a few exceptions. The only aspect your analogy is correct is the sleek design of the macs. We are arguing operating systems here and the only thing to argue is functionality and windows will always be more customizable and Apple osx will always be more stable for the uneducated user because of its strict comparability requirements in software design. Everything must be checked by apple for bugs. I agree they have a great product and they market to people who don't want to know anything but how to turn it on. on the flip side the pc is not as stable in that anyone can write a program and use it because windows is naturally less restricted. But for the user who does know and educated themselves it can do more than the mac will be able to do a a fraction of the cost. A better analogy here Ted is a pre built led unit over a DIY led unit the prebuilt one will often be sharp in design and have great functionality but a DIY unit will always be exactly the way you want it (similar hardware to the prebuilt unit) but a fraction of the cost while being engineered by yourself to be exactly what you need. you just have to do your homework first and know what your doing. Your analogy was close but not quite right. I hope I don't offend you here as its not my intention as I stated before these mac osx windows arguments are always the same and are fun for me. I don't know everything (far from it) but when I don't I read and learn.

I am definitely not a Mac Fanboy. I put in my time with PCs, built my own, bought them prebuilt. Did the Gateway thing, the Dell thing, the Alienware thing, the Asus thing. In comparison they all sucked compared to my Apple. Have you ever owned an Apple computer for 3+ months in order to accurately compare the two or are you just basing your judgement on what you have read and heard or played around with for a day or 2?

I also don't like your uneducated user statement because any joke can build a stable PC. For pre-built computers (what the VAST majority of computer users purchase) The Vortech/Tunze analogy sticks. Vortech does 98% of what Tunze can do, and a whole lot more.

I suppose if you are one of the small percentage that builds your own PC then you do not fit into this category. But again, my analogy took out all the "Fanboy" types for each side. This is the general portion of the community that would build their own PC.

I guess if you want a computer that is bulky, runs hot, has short battery life (laptop) in comparison, freezes, gets viruses (MOST PC users), BUT can function well for hardcore gaming get a PC.

If you want a computer that has none of those issues, can be fixed in person at any Apple Store in the country (usually for free, even out of warranty), and can do a whole lot more BUT probably can't run the absolutely most demanding gaming applications get a Mac.

How many PCs do you see from the early 2000's running the latest operating system without any hardware modification? Then look at Apple computers, nearly all of them can run Leopard and some can even run Lion.

I challenge you. Go buy an Apple computer. Use it for 5 years without any additional anti-virus or hardware upgrades. Just upgrade the OS as it comes out. See if it EVER needs a repair (short of physical damage), or EVER becomes too slow to do what you need it for (short of hardcore gaming). It wont.
