OT: MAC, anyone have them?

Oh and my tower size reflects my desire to be able to update my pc as hardware is needed rather than replace the whole unit because you can't upgrade with the macs sleek space saving design. If you have a part failure take it in a buy have Apple techs replace it with the same card or drive. I built my pc on a full size atx board and bought the full size tower with the intention to be able to add later as needed or wanted. I could have built on a micro atx board and hid it all in a drawer but wouldn't have the ability to use change it as freely. I can always reuse this case unless they change the motherboard footprint the power supply will be sufficient until they change power cables. Again all about flexibility and personalizing it how I want not what someone wants for me. Sony and hp make similar all in one monitor pcs like apple too but for me its worthless.

Would never buy either of these products again. Had a Vaio desktop tower and an HP laptop. Both were awful and needed regular repairs for faulty hardware. Also, none of them come in 27", none of them come with a 1440p resolution, and none of them have a tilt feature similar to the Imac.

I also forgot to mention that the Mac Pro tower is very upgradable with hardware not made by apple and is very modular in nature. This computer could also run ANY game you throw at it without a problem.

Never had any of these issues with any of my Apple products.

The only part of your analogy that works is the sleek design and the cost aside from that pcs have far more functionality than mac. The mac OS can do 98% of what the pc can do? Ok that's fine I agree but if were using your analogy the pc would be the whole lot more... hence the window OS would be the vortech which does more then the tunze and the mac would be the tunze lol. but the vortech is better designed so it would be the mac.... see why I say your analogy is flawed. an analogy should be a similar comparison that's why I went with the led analogy. And I don't have to own an Apple computer to know the smooth functionality of the computer. And again I'm not arguing better or worse like your trying to do. And yes my computer from 2001 can handle windows 7 its networked behind my tv with my homegroup network to stream video and music and play full hd video blueray movies. I have no xbox or ps3 or Wii why because my computer is that. My computer effectively replaced all gaming systems dvd players audio receivers streaming devices like roku player even my dvr. I can say I have actually saved myself thousands by constructing my pc to fit all my needs. I save money on parts my pc costing totaling 900 dollars. Your mac (which I'm must have been upgraded to 8 gig ddr3) cost baseline 1699 more like 1799 after your upgrade and that's before taxes. But it has no video out so you have to stream to the 27 inch screen. I can send video to my tv in the other room via a full hd cable or wireless to the media pc to the tv. By eliminating xbox I'm saving what 250 maybe less. Blueray player 150 maybe... dvr 25 a month rental for cable bill. There alone ive saved 400 in extra products 900 under the cost of your pc and I have superior parts and functionality. Sorry its hands down an obvious better product for now. I could build two of my pcs for the cost of one of yours. So even if I do have to buy 2 pcs or build in my case I can have a brand new pc every 5 years and be better than your mac that's lifespan is 10 as you say for the same price.

Your computer from 2001 that has never had a hardware upgrade once? Unless you are building your own PC it can just never beat an Apple in functionality and being "future-proof". Windows 7 is still garbage. Everything Windows since XP has been garbage. I had to beg the IT people at my office to leave me XP and not install Windows 7.

Show me one manufactured built PC from 2001 that is as bulletproof, and can do everything an Apple can do AND run Windows 7 without a hardware upgrade.

I agree with Skunk though. It's just a computer, and for me and my fellow Apple users, a sexy computer that they can use for anything they could possibly need it for the next 10 years without upgrading. :debi:
 
can you run myreef on a mac without dual booting? i like apple stuff but i wont every pay more for something that wont let me do what i want the way i want it to. Why dont they let osx on PC's, microsoft always allowed it to be put on anything that could run it. thats why the whole world uses pc's (and linux distros) they can be put on anything like you mac. If Apple let osx loose then this may be a different conversation. Same thing with smart phones why cant i choose ios on my galaxy or android on my iphone. Apples are conditioning you to accept what they give you, when you should be telling them what you want.

That is the ONLY issue I have with my Apple. There are some products that can not be run without dual booting windows. This is only because Windows is more common and companies like Digital Aquatics are too cheap to pay their programmers to write a program for Apple. These programs are few and far between though.

In all my time using Apple products the only 2 programs I wanted to run on my Mac but couldn't were HPtuners (ECU Tuning suite for GM Vehicles) and Myreef. For these two very low demand programs I have an OLD Windows XP laptop with no battery.
 
See my edit I miss quoted the price of your pc at 1300 instead of 1699 or 1799 after upgrade and taxes more. I can build 2 pcs from scratch with no recycled parts from my other machine for the same cost. And my objection is my computer is not just a computer it is all those things I stated before. I have shown the facts you have stated opinions about windows 7 being "garbage" I don't have to show a manufactured pc from 2001 that is still amiable because I have shown you can buy or build 2-3 windows pcs for the price of your ten year unit. You have yet to rebuttal any of the aforementioned facts I've shown because its hopeless. Mac hipster says "windows garbage" windows "fanboy" shows proof and if you wish ill link Apple store and link parts cost to support my argument rather than have you believe my word or opinions. This is hopeless :lolspin:
 
I like W7, have you guys tried the media center with a tv tuner. i made a quad core amd pc for my dad and he uses the media center to watch and record cable tv, so he's saving 10 bucks a month on a dvr from comcast. does mac have a similar feature?

Again, you keep talking about your DIY computer, and CONCEDE the fact that it would take 2-3 PCs over the years to compete with one Apple.

I understand the cost issue, but for some that is simply not an issue when purchasing a computer. I will give you that I also added Apple TV and Roku HD.

My Brand New Dell Windows 7 PC at work still freezes. My Apple never freezes, EVER. That's all I need to see to never purchase a PC again.

Once again, I have owned both computers, and have gone with Apple, you have never owned an Apple computer so how can you make a true honest comparison? It is the same issue I have with Tunze owners who have never owned a Vortech saying that their product is better. How do they know they have never tried the other. (this applies to Vortech owners who have never owned a Tunze also, I have owned both).

Edit: Skunk, I don't know for sure about the DVR replacement, but I have heard of people doing it. Not sure if it's possible out of the box though.
 
on the pc that freezes. have you reformatted it? maybe its a heat issue. i fixed a mac tower that froze up recently and i found it dirty and the heat sink on a onboard gpu fell off. the same hardware issues on pc happen on macs too, same parts the only difference is a thing in the cpu that allows osx to run.
 
its most likely dust clogging the cpu heat sink. clean it and while you are there redo the thermal grease on the cpu. its not a mac/pc thing it happens to both. but if its at your job let the IT do it. at my job i have tons of dells breaking down all the time, but its not a windows thing. Dell is dung, i would buy one unless its a penny. building your pc is the only way to go. so for future people looking for a pc, if you need to think about by a mac. pc's have always been the DIY thing ever since the beginning.

sorry i read a month old, that its BS. but again its a manufacturer thing cant blame the whole lot on a bad maker.
 
I'm not conceding as its not necessary to prove that one lasts 10 years. All I have to do is prove that I can have 2 comparable computers cost the same and have better functionality than a single mac for exactly the same price. You hang onto that macbook and that imac and in 10 years I will have had 4 pcs all with the newer technology every 2 years than the last at the same cost of your 2 units. Tough decision I know. And I'd like to see an Apple without hardware repair do the same you have asked of a windows pc.
 
I've used a few macs but never for an extended amount of time..... I never have any issues with my PC though. It's gotta be close to 10 years old and the only thing I've ever done to it is added some more memory and blow it out every six months or so to make sure all the fans are running fine.....

Heck, my old Alienware is now my brothers work PC, it's gotta be going on 7-8 years old now....
 
I have both. They do the same thing, they compute. I also dual boot linux. It does the same thing too.

I do have to mention Mac viruses though. Macs get viruses too. You should still get anti-virus software for your Mac.

Droid>iOS though ;)
