Yup. Only difference is about 100 more hp and much better handling. Last performance car was an Audi S4 with the V8. The Pony is faster but the Audi handled like nothing I've ever experienced.

Cant go wrong with german car handling. The A4 Quattro we had was a blast and the BMWs feel like they are on rails.

Thought I would give a little update on the zombie apocalypse vehicle. I decided to bring the roll cage down a little bit to give it a more aggressive look. Compare it to the first pics I posted.

You mentioned driving it on the street/freeways earlier in the thread.
Curious on how you plan to have it legally registered for the road. Emissions, requirements etc. Is it a pre-1967 VIN number on it somewhere ?

Just need to get all the legal stuff like lights, mirrors, windshield, horn, seat belts etc on there. If you can put a rhino, golf cart, 2-stroke dirtbike etc on the streets then this shouldnt be any different. Its basically the same situation as a dune buggy.
There are no vin numbers anywhere and its a brand new crate engine so I'm assuming they are going to have to title it as a 2012, just like a dune buggy would be. That gives me 5 years of no emissions. By then, I'll be bored of it and trade it off for another cool toy.

Shouldnt be a problem. The shop i used to work at did a lot of street legal kits on quads and we never had a problem. Plus the people at the MVD are bigtime chumps. I went to get the title for my rmz450 (strictly dirtbike, for those who dont know), and they asked if I wanted to get plates for it.

Youll have to get an inspection to get a VIN number and an AZ title before you can get plates. I think you need to show like half the claimed value of your vehicle with receipts as part of that process. Save your receipts if you havent.
Registering a factory quad or a rhino or a dirtbike for street legal is a simple Motorcycle plate and having horn/mirrors etc. After its 5 years old, even a rhino is subject to emissions testing if you live in the PHX metro. This is pretty easy and I have done it, but there is supposed to be a weight limit on the vehicle (max) of something like 1800 lbs to be considered a UTV and eligible for Motorcycle plate. Your rig looks like it will be over 1800lbs ? (Ill go look that number up fpr what the weight limit is)
The other kind of plate you see on sand rails and buggies is an RV plate. These just show that your rig has a title with AZ MVD. Thats it. Does not make you legal on the road at all. You can be on certain forest and blm trails and recreation areas but thats it. Not even legal on higher usage forest roads.
If you exceed the weight limit (chance you could get the MVD to ignore it if you do go over, like you say its never the same visit twice with them) that kinda leaves you with getting a regular vehicle plate to be street legal. ---- How that works with a homebuilt rig and emissions I dont know and the part Im wishing you good luck on, and Id be genuinely interested to hear how that works out.
Youre likely to get a different answer at each MVD location and even from the same ones on different visits, which is a huge part of the challenge. There has been some pretty good luck and one location in particular though, Ill try to find which one it is where they have their act together on special vehicles and let you know. It might help you out.
edit: edit: 1800lbs was correct and I was thinking DMV on greenfield and baseline, but instead of schlepping all the way there and waiting in line... this person is supposed to be a solid DMV person. ""suggestion was to call the main DMV office down town and ask for "Jean" to get all the correct information you will need from her.""

I've done sand rails as well and as long as you have a receipt for the brand new engine, they will title it according to the year the engine was built.
I had a ducati 916 built for track only without lights or anything. I went to get the vin plate and they said i wasnt going to be able to get plates for it when it went through level 2 inspection. So I got the inspection done and went to a different location to get the title and they gave me plates along with it.
Same story with a golf cart I built. Only had head and taillights. I got the level 2 done and vin plate and went inside to get the title. Next day I walked in and they gave me a plate, no questions asked. It was titled as a motorcycle though, so that might be a little different.

Oh and the MVD on greenfield is the one I get inspected at most of the time. There is another one in scottsdale that is extremely relaxed about inspections also. I have gotten away with a lot of stuff there.

Been waiting 3 months for my wiring to get done for the motor so I'm stuck right now. I have a garage full of parts to get it in and running when thats done though. I also have a garage full of exterior Knight Rider conversion parts too.

^thats awesome. Apparently you dont have an HOA there, looks like everyone on your street leaves their boats outside. If the HOA in my neighborhood gets the slightest glimpse of the tower on mine they start whining.
