If you know who Guru is or have ever listened to and liked him or his old group Gang Starr, I like you.

He just passed away after a year long battle with cancer. He was, in this guy's opinion, one of the top five greatest rappers of all time. Not this new age guns, rims, B's n Ho's, jewlrey, crap today. His rhymes were insightful and cleaver. His delivery silky smooth. The beats were ahead of their time.
If you like old school rap, I highly recommend checking him out. He will be missed.

NO WAY!! Awww man that's terrible. He will be deeply missed. A founding father of a cultural revolution IMO. He was never recognized as much as he should have been. RIP.

Oddly enough I would rate eminem very highly. Again, cleaver and insightful. Topical. T.I. Is very good. LiL Wayne........I'll keep my opinions to myself on that one.......

don't push me cause I'm close to the edge...
I'm trying not to lose my head...

I thought Bob Dylan was the original rapper!

Some of these original rappers are hittin' 50-60 -expect to see more passing away after some hard lifes full of partying and hard times.
RIP Guru

lol at little wayne comment, yeah I like more than a few of his songs but I have every one of Eminems songs including almost every underground!..... Love him! Not to mention Tupac .
Yeah thinking back wow to many to list (Dr Dre,Too Short, whodini,EasyE,and omg beastie boys lol) just some of my all time favorites. Woman rappers easy....(Mc lite),salt n peppa., `

I was into the rap stuff in the mid 80's when rap was a new thing..I never heard of this Guru guy.. The rap guys I was into were..

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five

Run DMC

LL Cool J

Kurtis Blow

KRS-One

But by far my favorite stuff were from the "Roxanne wars".. It wasn't very popular out of the NYC area, but I lived in White Plains,NY that year and was the biggest thing then..here is some info on that stuff..

But my rap phase was short, when stuff started to get nasty with the rappers in those days(filled with hate) I went a different route in music :)

the roxanne wars were great-thanks for bringing those up-and I'm w/ ya on the violence b's & ho's thing. I can see it from their parts a little but for me I did lose track of it too. I think every persons musical tastes mature over time. Still ove to listen to the old school jams though!~

didn't guru have some heart problems awhile back?

+1. I really enjoy hip hop and rap, but it's depressing that 99% of it is either filled with hate or intended to degrade some person/people. I'd listen to this genre more often if there were more clean artists just out to have fun, instead of people hating other people or trying to promote some agenda.

I think this is why I really like the Beastie Boys. A large portion of their music is just plain good fun music.

Hahahahaha The Beastie Boys....nothing better than 3 White Boys(now three old white men) rapping up some crazy lyrics and making it somehow sound good.

Really? That's it? Not Lauren Hill?!?!?! She is IMO the best female rapper of all time. I'll have to get some Guru on my next order. The latest was Nas: Illmatic, Nastradamus, and I Am; Common: Be, and another (can't remember the name). As far as my personal favorites; Kanye, Jay-Z, Nas, Little Wayne, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Wu-Tang..........there are more but can't think of them all. Kanye is at the top of my list all day long though!

Yeah Lots of (current) Favs Here to, as I said to many to list.
Kanye ummm not in my list lol

I personally refer to Eric B., from Eric B. and Rakim, as the greatest rapper of all time.

Guru was up there. Beasties. Jay Z. Chuck D. from Public Enemy. Eminem. Rev Run in his early days. Ice-Ts "power" was a killer album. NWA also gets honorable mention.

yea NWA was sick! I'm not as much of a fan of The Game as when he was in NWA, but Snoop still has some good ones. Just to clarify with Shawna......do you love Lauren Hill or not? :)
