Our 375 Gallon project

castroantonio-
The foam in the can says it's black but I would call it a grayish silver color actually. As for purple- It definately doesn't come out purple till it's been in the water a while and encrusts with coraline. We used new sand but it wasn't live sand. We also used new live rock (about 200lbs) and some existing rock from the tank we took down (about 80lbs). We had to wait the usual month- 2 months before adding fish and coral and waiting for the tank to become completely cycled. We didn't use anything to make the cycle faster. I wouldn't chance putting fish and coral in a system with new sand and rock- it will cycle and you will kill things if you ask me. My filtration is a Barr aquatic sk5220 dual beckett skimmer.

pjpeels-
I haven't thought about moving the clown eggs into the frag tank or the fuge. From what I've heard that wouldn't really work very well and they need specific requirements to actually survive. It would be easy to move the rock though so maybe someday I'll give it a try. As for the Frag tank- we have a lot in it now and we frag stuff all the time. I can try to get a good picture of it but we don't clean the glass very often. It's usually completely encrusted with coraline and we only scrap when we need to see something that we couldn't see from overhead. No update on the T5's yet. I really need to get on that as well but we've had a lot of other things going on and I just haven't found the time to do the T5's yet.....hopefully soon!

congrats on TOTM Scott, i am very amazed on your setup. what camera are you using?

The pics were taken with a Canon Rebel XT. Some are with a macro lens and some are not. It's amazing what a good camera can capture! Most of the images I post are very cropped and very reduced in file size. The originals are something like 2400x1600 (I think they may be larger than that actually)and almost 1MB each!

I was asking the same question and found this on page 36 I belive.

AWSOME setup! Does the overflow from the main tank grvity feed to the garage or do you have a pump to push water to the garage? If there is a pump then how did you regulate it in conjunction with the return pump from the garage?

Sidewinder770 very nice build. I know you haven't shown much of the canopy. But if you could show pics even if its with out the linear actuator. What did you use for a hinge so the whole front opens. I think that is ideal to have doors and have complete access to the top.

cbui2-
mflamb got it for ya.

tim2-
It's all gravity fed. The total pipe distance from tank to sump is about 75'. The sump is the same height as most sumps under the tank would be just farther away. No matter how far horizontal you go gravity still does it's thing. Even if the pipes went 20' underground and came back up they would still work just fine.

tryingsalt-
I'll try to get some pics up of that soon. Got company in town this week so it will probably be next week. The hinges are just regular door hinges mounted horizontal instead of vertical. I think I used 4 of them total. Being able to open the whole top as well as the individual doors is really beneficial. Not having full access to the top of the tank would be a pain.

Your wrasses

Your wrasses

Hi Scott long time lurker been watching for some time! I want to say great job with a tank this size and your fish assortment is very cool. I too like you am a big Wrasse Fan I have 2 tanks currently with Leopards in both. My question to you is when you introduced the Choati wrasse,Labouti wrasse & the Ornate Leopard wrasse did you have any major fighting or with a tank of this size was there lots of room for them to get used to each other?
Thank you for your time and Get job with this thread and congrats on TOTM....Jeff

I've had the Leopard Wrasse for about 3 months. He is probably my favorite fish and is doing great. I've got him eating just about anything and he is fat and happy!

I'll try to get some more pics up- this camera is great and takes spectacular pictures! Now all I need to do is learn how to use it correctly.

And thanks everyone for the compliments- slowly but surely it's coming together.

Congrats on your "Tank of the Month - June 2007." It took a while but I finally read all 38 pages of your build thread. Awesome set up!

Mark

Wow, great set up man, I like how your plumping is under the tank. You must have check twice to see if there are any leak...eh?

How's the pumping under the tank holding up? Any thoughts of what to do if there's a leak around the bulkhead to the tank? You got some scary joints down there. It is something that a lot of people wouldn't think of doing.

Speechless...Just an incredibly beautiful and original tank!

Do you have a picture of your OM 4/PVC structure before you foamed it? I would love to see how you plumbed it.

scott
can you help me with the chiller design?
i am trying to do the same thing on a 1000 gallonn holding system
i am not sure how to plumb the chiller barrel to the A/C unit w/ the freon in and out .

I just found out about your tank while catching up on old episodes of Reefcast. Didnt even see it on TOTM (more time to listen than read lately). But I just had to sit down and see this entire thread from start to finish. Amazing.

This is one impecable build and a very beautiful tank, fish, corals. Great picutres.

Cheers
