Our Mini 425 Ocean

Bax - that sounds like the plan with the skimmer. I am just trying to move some stuff around so i can make room for it. I think it looks cooler external. With the watt draw on that pump this skimmer better work.

I tried to get rid of as much as I could last night. I think I just made my tangs mad and wound up with a swollen finger. When you squeeze the big ones they popped. They have a little red stuff inside too. My first tool didn’t work that good, I need to get some aquarium tools.

Here is another good pic if you look a the tail and my blue spot tang you can see it on the rock.

And I think these are frags on the bottom. Hopefuly Copper band food.hahaha

At first I thought this rock had hemroids.

I was able to keep a few I caught yesterday and put them in a jar. I figured I could do something with them. The squeezing thing got old and my finger hurt.

I was planning on using this tank as a qt. It will be ready for the cb with plenty of food. I was talking to John and he said that is what he did. He left his cb in qt with nothing to eat but aptashia. So all you cool guys with your anemity tanks…I bet you wish you had aptashia tank. Hahahaha Tomorrow I will set it up on the bottom shelf. I just didn’t want to drill this late and wake up the little one. The shelf it is on now will be for a little frag tank. One day..

Here is what is left of a frag that was eaten by the star. I hope it makes a come back, or am I wishing? It didn’t even get to take any before pics. I have during and after.

I started making some screens, tired of getting my flame hawk out of the overflow. I was just looking for him and found him back in the overflow stuck on the egg crate and screen. I am going to leave him in there for now. At first I thought he was dead. That will be on my list.

the tang is sweet and so is the scopas. that coral looks done, but you never know. Put it in a safe place where you can't look at it every day and maybe it will come back. I find if I stash damaged corals out of sight, they don't bother me as much, and often the will re-generate.

think thats gold rim tang Eric. scopas and yellow getting along, i know the scopas is a little mean.

John - i wish i had a frag tank to put them in.. Soon enough''

bart- The scopas is the baby of the bunch, the 2 littler yellows and the ? rim tang will pick on him once in a while. The scopas is a model citizen right now at his size, time will tell. I am surprised that they are really getting along good. The blue spot just hangs out by himself and doesn't bother anyone..

my yellows just about killed a scopas I introduced recently, but he toughed it and has healed up.

Some of your fish are gonna get BIG! :)

John - Yeah that’s why I got a lot of water volume. The rest off the fish I want will be small. And maybe another tang or 2. Down the road it will definitely be a 600 or a 1000.

Bart - I will keep you in mind, but I really like him. All I have to do is get a new stand if I don’t finish my office side in a year and I will lose 18 inch of office space. When you are going to upgrade your 600 to a 1000 keep me in mind. hahahahahah

It is a shame that big beckett skimmers draw soooo much power,I've been playing with pump swaps, using a Dart and Barracuda, but for them to have a chance, I need to drill the skimmer and I havn't the nads for that kind of a mod just yet.

That gold rim, achillies looking tang is just beautiful!

ReefTank6 - Thanks..

Bax - Drill it where? It it is in the bottom square part that shouldn't be too bad. If you mean drill the tube..that is scary. I need to check out that link from your thread so i can set mine up this weekend.

FFrankie - thanks..I had to do some land scaping today so nothing done on the tank. I need to figure where I am going to squeez my skimmer in. I might have to remake some stands. I am also going to finally hook up the other 3 500 mh.

Not much to update. This weekend I hope to get a little done. My elect is going from 1 dart and 1 400mh to a dart and a marlin and 3 400mh. I wonder if I will see an increase in my bill. ahhahaha. Tomorrow I hope to set up the qt and pick up the CB. Glass Cages has a little frag tank that will fit my shelf for about $70. I was thinking I could connect the overflow of the frag tank to the overflow pipes under my main display. humm too many projects..

not the easiest fish to keep but if your parameters are good and the tank water is clean the fish should be fine.I have had a pbt witch showed some ich (3 spots on it) when introduced to the tank.It took about 2 to 3 weeks for the fish to have no spots what so ever but he ate right away.Sometime its a hit and miss with these types of tangs. It all depends how relaxed the fish is.If he isn't stressed and he eats and swims more often than not they do very well.Plus you have a nice size tank.Keep your water clean like J does and you should be good.

Thanks reef safe nija and Thiago.

I hope my new skimmer will help. I did just take down my fuge but the new one will be a little better.

Ah, see, I have a "powder brown" tang as well. They are not the same as the whitecheek tangs, though, which are often also called a "powder brown" tang. :)

The one I have is the one with the orange on his top fin. He also doesn't have the white on his cheek but rather a white snout. He is a A. japonicus rather than the one pictured above, which is a A. nigricans. ;)

Here's some pictures of both from fishbase:

japonicus

nigricans

very similar looking do they have the same characteristics?I find its a hit and miss depending on your tank params and where you got the fish from. Its hard to judge a fish. They can do great and then 2 months later stop eating.Yet the tank is fine but it all depends how the fish is caught.I have 6 tangs but I got them all very small 1"-1 1/2" my sail fin was very small and in 5 months he grew 3 to 4 times the size.I have a yellow tang witch was larger than the sail fin but the sail fin caught up and surpassed him my sail fin is a good 4"to 5".I also have 2 hippos but very small(less than 2") chocolate tang 3" he doesn't grow very fast.PBT is about 3 1/2"the fish get along but I find they stay on the left side of the tank.I always feed from that side and most of the fish stay on that side of the tank.8 ft tank and people come over they all notice the fish stick to one side of the tank.

They are similar but the japonicus is much hardier than the nigricans.
