Overstocked, Again!

Grizzled & Cynical
OK, so I have 90 mixed reef that I bought lock, stock & barrel from a local reefer who was throwing in the towel. Ha apparently had not been regularly reading the RC tank size guidelines :).

So I have reduced the population of fish down to a manageable, though perhaps not optimal level:

2 large Hippos - tank is too small, I know, but so far so good.
Medium yellow tang
Two pairs of clowns, down from 11 - one pair in fuge
3 green chromis
3 cardinals
1 dusky wrasse
1 flame angel
1 watchman goby
1 mandarin
1 splendid dotty back
1 leopard wrasse, also in fuge

What do folks think?

Personally, I'd get rid of all the tangs and all but 1 pr clowns. I'd also consider removing the dottyback and (maybe) the flame angel to go with a peaceful tank suited to the wrasses, and mandarin. The flame may be fine...really depends on where you want to go with this tank...I tend to lean to the passive/peaceful side with smaller fish.

+1

Just a question - why is the leopard wrasse in the fuge? Having a pod-eating fish in the fuge kinda defeats the purpose a bit... The clowns in the fuge probably won't hurt anything though.

I would take it down to 1 tang in that size, the 3 of them have to make the tank look super busy.

I can't even imagine it with 11 clowns in there... WOW.

Definitely get rid of the hippos, I say you can keep the yellow tang, unless it starts behaving badly. Only one pair of clowns.

Just a concern. My experiences with the blue green chromis in a group of three has been negative. 2 will team up against one.

I say ditch the hippos and a pair of clowns. The rest should work with enough rock space.

The Flame and Tang could get grouchy over time if they feel crowded. I had a 4 to 5" YT in a 75G for 9 months. He seemed fine until I would introduce a new fish. He just wanted to eat all day.

Leopard is in the fuge because I figure she would get the stuffing beaten out of her in the DT. Best way to acclimate a Leopard is to provide ample pods while trying to get them onto something like mysis. In this case she is now eating mysis.

Is funny, 11 clowns were ok until I introduced an anemone, then all hell broke loose.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Rather validates my thinking that the Hippos need a bigger home.

Yellow has actually proven to be a pretty agreeable member of the community, so she stays, but the hippos will be getting a bigger home fairly shortly.
