Nothing wrong with most of the cubes...I had a jbj. Just outgrew it...once you get into this hobby, upgrades happen. Unless you bail on the hobby. Every reefer I know started with one tank, and moved to another. It's just a matter of time.
Personally I love the look of this tank. I almost bought the 38 but when I saw this 40, it was all over.

I already have my eye on my next tank. but that won't happen till I retire and move, since I don't want to be moving a 100+g tank...it's either going to be an sr120 or cadlights 100g system.

Hopefully this tank keeps me happy for the 6 years till then...or I get one hell of a deal on Craigslist!
Reduck you're close to retirement age???

Yea, well Id like to do radion, but its 2x the price of the 360

If you're not ready for a top of the line light like the Radion, check out reefradiance. It's a Chinese made full spectrum fully controllable and programmable from your iphone or droid. $250 I don't work for them or anything it's just what I wound up getting after doing a ton of research

Personally I think even the 360 is underpowered for our tank and will limit what you'll be able to have

Picked up a goby/pistol shrimp pair at the LFS today. Dripping as we speak will post pics when I throw them in. Hopefully they won't dissapear

Um, yes. I'll be 60 in early June. I'm approaching 30 years at my job...
You know the saying "you are only as old as you feel"?
I feel, and have been told, I look, a lot younger.
And the last thing I'll tell you, it isnt due to clean living...I have good genes. I dragged them through the gutter though...for quite a few years...in the music biz, and racing motorcycles..

I had one of ricks lights. Nice stuff. His new stuff is quite nice. Just too large framed for my plan so I sold it. Tons of power.

Ok I'm sorry I missed your comment on the 30l. I thought you were talking about the 40.
You would need at least two with that width tank.
Sorry again.. Duh me...

I didnt think the Kessil would work in the 30L just due to the increased length. Would figure on needing 2 with that

Good point. I was thinking depth and not width..

Radions are amazing lights.. I love my G3s w/ wxm control. But than again I wanted to put a good amount in my lights since everything centers around them. There are other good products on the market though

So I have a question for everyone. I have my aquascape the way I like it and love the way it looks inside the tank but I will be adding a few inches of sand because the wife wants a garden eel. So I need to raise the rock without letting it sit on top of the sand. I was thinking of using some black egg crate (because my sand is black) and using either pvc pipe or acrylic rods as pillars for the eggcrate. OR I can drill the bottoms of the rock work and use acrylic rods to raise it up? Suggestions??

this is what the tank looks like as of now.

I'l just glue up the black egg crate base, level up the sand to it, then sit the rockwork on it, and then fill with the rest of the sand till it looks nice and even.

It won't stay even forever. Especially with an eel..

Thank you Reduck. My only worry is that the eggcrate with limit the areas in which the garden eel will be able to come out. Should I just cut the eggcrate to the shape of the rock work?

if you use the lighter weight (1/2 inch) egg crate just as a base cushion, then fill to that level, then put the rock in, then add 2 more inches of sand, it should be enough. I think you'd be better off doing a full bottom liner just in case of vigorous tunneling. Last thing you'd want is that rockwork to topple. You might get away with a piece a couple inches larger than the rock..

I had a goby that rearranged a 15lb hunk of LR in less than a day. He wanted to live under it, and there was no stopping him...

Alright sounds good thank you for the help. I know what you mean with a goby moving rock around. In my 10g I have a YWG and a pistol shrimp. I made a newb mistake and put the rock work on top of that sand now my rock sits 3 1/2" lower lol.

talk about obsessive compulsive disorder! Gobies are right up there. Its like a challenge for them and they will not stop till every grain of sand is where they want it, and then they'll change their minds and re-do it all again...
Its quite entertaining to watch, till you realize the rocks are going to fall.

Yea it's rather entertaining to watch the pistol shrimp I don't know if you have/had one but he'll work all day long moving one grain of sand at a time out of his burrow. The. After he gets it the way he likes it does it all over again the next day. Workaholics they are.

never had a pistol shrimp. Had a huge skunk shrimp that I rehomed due to over aggressive behavior and still have two peppermint shrimp. I am hoping to replace the harlequin I lost to the skunk soon. They are a spectacular species. A little difficult (if you are squeamish) to feed, but very entertaining to watch..

I'll replace the goby once I build a canopy. My last diamond squirted out through the screen top a couple months ago..
