My last tank 10 years ago didn't have a skimmer, so I'm honestly not sure what to expect. But that's why I bought something with "ghost" in the name, because I didn't want to see or hear it

Does anybody know if the Tunze 9004 is any less loud?

yea, as new it rattled for a while. I would say at least 3 weeks before it settled down. As the slime coat builds it muffles the noise.

Im right there with you with the noise. I noticed this with some help from "Reduck" (thanks again)

Make sure the ghost is in the 2nd chamber, all the way to the bottom,
Make sure your skimmer cup is about 1"-1.5. above the housing case
Make sure you either:
1) adjust the air value as close to the closed position or;
2) get an air tube about 3-4' and run it to the back of the tank. This creates a longer area of the air to travel, thus reducing the air "sucking noise"

Mine is around 1.5 week old, and now I'm hearing just the minor rattling noise.

Anyone ever had IM ship them replacements directly? Talked to them last week on Tuesday afternoon and said the replacement tank would ship soon. As of today it still hasn't shipped and all i get told when I ask is they're still planning to ship it, but won't tell me when.

Can't say i did. I would hope they can give you an estimated ship date if you spoke to someone in person. They are usually pretty good to talk to..

Here's an FTS this morning

Finally my bacteria bloom went away and the tank is no longer foggy. Acro's are showing great signs of recovery of whatever was happening in my tank. PE is crazy and a few are really starting to encrust.

Here are the current params:
Ca: 425 (Was 470 a week ago)
Alk: 8 (Has been 8 for a while)
Mag: 1440 (Was 1580 a week ago)
Ammonia: 0
PO: 0.25
Nitrate: 0

I just did this morning! Dosed some calcium back into the tank.

The tunze is basically silent and it's almost undetectable. It's hard to even notice the 1/4" that sticks up in the first chamber .Unless I plan on overstocking this tank I don't think it's going anywhere.

I'm thoroughly impressed with the performance and quietness of this little thing, I've always been on the team of nano skimmers are worthless but the 9004 changed my perception so far.

There's also a good guy I know on njreefers selling his fusion 40 set up. He's in central nj. He still has the 9004 and kessil besides the tank. Not too sure if posting this link is permitted but here ya go..

I am going to start looking at the 80-sr in the summer. Going to put my 40 in my classroom. My kids would love it and take care of it. Give them something to be proud about and learn about. Give the south Bronx kids some positive pride!!

That would be an excellent idea! I wish my teachers always would've done something cool like that. Hopefully it'll inspire kids to get into the amazing hobby.
