Peeping Banggai Fry

Yep. I read it already before. I guess only time will tell if they will breed again. But nonetheless i kept 2 banggai fry from the 2nd batch and im still waiting for them to become adults so i can get them partners. This time I will put them in a separate breeding tank with no other fishes. Now the next step is designing a breeding tank. heheh!

Well best of luck with young fry becoming parents....
As far as your designing you breeding tank..... let me know, I have a good friend who has a CNC machine

I'm getting nervous cause my male is now about 14 days into holding the eggs. I'm hopeing to see some babies for the first time since I got the pair. He's held about 5 times...interestingly, this is the longest he's held for, AND it's the cleanest the water params have ever been (low N and P through use of biopellets). I have a separate fuge set up for feeding and growing out the initial fry that is still plumbed with the DT water, so I'm hoping to get some babies to grow up. My biggest worry is what to do with the fry once they are grown. There is no LFS here, and no one around here that has a marine tank would want them...not a popular species of fish.

any ideas what to do with the grown babies? I guess I could ship them... :/

either way, I'm looking forward to my first banggai fry. :)

Well you should find them new homes. You can start shipping them out once they have actually started eating prepared foods like flakes.

Just a little up date....
We moved all the babies to the 40g breeder yesterday and they seem to be doing well.
At first they split into 2 groups, and this morning they are swimming together and loving all the extra room...

Last night when I was saying goodnight to the babies, I had a strange feeling to look into one of the refugium, don't know why as this is usually Ed's job to make sure all is well under the tank....

Well did I find a SURPRISE! a baby Banggai was in there! I guess it has been in there since we came home from MACNA and it lived through the interceptor treatment of the tank.......WOW was I surprised to see it in there and it has a FAT tummy too! I guess it has been living off the pods in there.......
Ed and I had a good laugh at how hard we have worked to raise our current batch and look at how nature took care of it self......
This Banggai is a lot bigger than the other babies and everyone welcomed LUCKY...

I'll take pictures of the all the babies in there new home this afternoon to share with you...

OH, one more thing... our male in the big tank is holding again and I can see eyes peeking out..... He is so hard to catch..... I'm still not able to do a lot of work on the tanks right now, so I asked a reef club member to come over and help us get the male and the 2 females out of the big tank and into the 40g breeders we set up...

wow edandsandy! Congrats again! You guys are really very lucky. I myself havent been having much luck. My male aborted again and is eating again. Hes fat and healthy but i still dont know why hes aborting again. Oh well...

Anyway, i have pair of banggai in my nano tank now. Hopefully these will grow up and breed much more than my original pair. Keeping my fingers crossed!

this is coming down to the wire. 24 days now and not a single sign of peeping. I would joke and say that the male is just pretending to hold, but he still hasn't eaten since this started. I'm getting anxious.

I wouldn't be surprised if he spit them out tonight... 21 days is a safe to catch the male and have the babies survive...

Our male is still holding and it has been 24 days as well.....

We purchased another female, and placed her with the male from the first batch of babies in our seahorse tank.... so far so good. No sighs of fighting.... or dancing,,,

yeah I keep thinking of moving him, but I'm afraid he'll spit out what's in his mouth, and if it's not fry, but eggs, then I have no way of hatching them by myself. So I really wanted to wait till I saw peeping.

He simply will not open his moth enough to allow a good look in there. :/ I'm tempted to just do it tonight and take my chances. He looks so hungry. I still wonder if the males don't eat even just a few eggs to stay nourished through the brooding.

nice daveonbass. If you counted 25days already its pretty safe to assume that they are already fries and not eggs anymore. So better to catch him now than risk him spitting the fry into your main tank as catching small fries are much more difficult that catching just 1 adult male banggai. Good luck and i hope you post some pics! :)

his first day of holding was the 8th of nov. So I think I am just going to catch him tonight and take my chances. Either way I'm ready for this to begin or end. Haha

im sure it will be fine. Thats around 24 days already. They should be fries by now. Good luck and keep us posted. I do hope youve already hatched some BBS as you will need to feed the fry as soon as they are out.

now I'm perplexed. I finally caught him last night, a small miracle, and he didn't drop anything. I put him in the holding refugium, still no dropping of fry. And I even put a fake make shift urchin in there in case he had them while we slept so they had some where safe to not get eaten by him.

I woke up this morning and still no babies. BUT I can see his mouth more clearly and noticed that he is clearly still holding eggs, and none have hatched. This is officially the 25th day. I'm wondering if it's possible that she laid a second clutch after the first already and so my true days of counting are skewed...

I guess timewill tell. The eggs do have eye spots, but none have hatched. This is an odd couple... :)

ok, so right now after trying to catch the male, he released ~14 fry. But they are not eating and look to be still slightly under developed. But I'm not super worried since some people raise them from eggs without letting the male carry them.

however, the male appears to still be holding a few. So I haven't removed him yet. But I want to. Many of the fry are just chilling at the bottom, and again show no interest in BBS yet, but they do still have a large "yolk sack" still. (i believe that's what it is)

any advice is appreciated.
