Pencil Urchin...What the heck is it doing?

Ok, iv'e had my pencil urchin for about 6 months now. Tonight I noticed a bunch of white stringy stuff in the tank and upon further examination noticed that it is coming from my urcin?!?! I have seen the urchin poop and this is NOT poop. The fish have been going crazy eating this stuff. The urchin seems fine. Any ideas???
