Perry's 120 Gallon Reef

LOL, that thing was a beast. I thought for sure I wanted a small shallow tank but there are far too many fish and corals that I want to keep such a tank.

Where did that tank end up? Curious to know who has it now

Charles, I would kill to have that tank back and use as a frag tank now. I cannot remember the guys name, he was an Orlando guy, pretty active in the Orlando community for awhile. Real nice guy... Anyway, stop over if you ever in my area, and want to see things live, I know you are aware that pics only tell so much :)

I'm going into a jealous rage every time I see that Red Robin. :furious: One day mine will be red. Anytime you want to post more pictures ....

Lol Mark, yeah it gets frustrating when a certain coral won't behave and color appropriately, I have a few of those myself. Healthy corals, just won't move past brownish hues. Do you dose any boron in the tank, I use very light doses, weekly with Zeovit's B-Strong @ 1ml. They now moved to a self dissolving method with the trace mineral, so I will switch to BW for "B" and "K". :D

Just saw the RR pics perry!!
I'm sooooo jealus!
Amazing coral and greatly colored too, well done buddy:beer:

Thanks Mike, glad you like that baby, the red corals are all doing well, I appreciate you taking notice, and appreciate the kind words. Now, just have to get all the other in the tank on board, lol...

I do have a bottle of Boron but deathly afraid to dose it, especially since it can alter Alk readings.

LOL, that's why I asked. It matches my existing stand exactly. I'd love to have that thing back :)

Hopefully Biggles will stop by and let me know if this SSC frag has proper coloration, may need reading glasses to see this little guy :)

I'm no SSC guru Perry, i know they're easy to keep and color up but apart from that i'm as clueless as the rest lol. Your little guy has the same pigments as one of my pieces looking at your pic, if it's anything like mine it will look lime green with minimal pink highlights if you place it in high light. In low light it will loose most of the green and the pink will be more prominent although it will be more of a washed out red color than what you would call pink. When you get it in the sweet spot it will exhibit a much more classical 'SSC' coloration so it's just a matter of what colors float your boat when it comes to placement. Lots of strong surging flow will see growth take off in my experience. You will likely see a purple/violet hue on the encrusting edges when it gets going but if you see any of that hue appearing on the tips you can be assured your water is out of whack big time.

That's all i have to say about that SSC............ :)

Your colors are awesome Perry but i think you already know that mate

Mark, I use very light under recommended doses, I have never seen any ill effect on Alk. I use Salifert Hard Trace for replacement trace minerals, however, Boron, Iodine, and Potassium do not show under ingredient list, for this reason, I use light doses of each not included. So far so good :)

I hear you, that footprint and shallowness are perfect for a frag tank, owell, easy come easy go :)

Andrew,
Thanks for the info, hopefully the frag will take off as soon as it heals onto the live rock :) Thank you for the compliments mate!

Nice SSC Perry. Will be following your SSC's progress. :) I have a couple of decent sized frags. One is a nicer variant though it is much slower at growth...as it typical with the nicer acros.

Thanks Sahin,
I hear you, all my favorites grow slow, and then you have those ones that just grow like a weed, life on the reef I suppose :)

Been reading reading along with your thread for a while now.only recently just started posting. Your tank is looking great. Seeing the progress is great. I also love the red you have in that red robin. I like how the growth in that green stag in the back is going wild... I hope mine will start getting that way soon.

Thank for the compliments everyone :)
So I just scored 3 frags today, looking forward to watching these new ones grow!
*Rommel's Watermelon Acro
*RMF Acid Trip
*Pink Lemonade

Will post pics soon :)

Just beautiful Perry, the colors are stunningly saturated mate :)

Pics of the new frags will be cool, before and after they've been in your good care for a while.

I meant to ask Perry, how much spur2 and how often and whats your total system water volume at a guess.
Keep this between you and i as the other guys will get the wrong idea........:reading:

Well done perry, things look really good:thumbsup:
You have great colors!

Can't wait to see that pink lemonade:inlove:

Looking good Perry! Love the way you've mixed the colours in the tank mate, it works really well :D

How's the monti corner coming?? I'd love to see some shots of that as those monti's are always amazing!

Andrew, thank you for the kind words, and your thought is spot on with regards to before and after, I should also get some pics up of all the other new ones from my prior purchase. All of those are taking off mate, I am especially growing fond of the Acroberry frag :) Batteries are charged on my camera, will try and get some updated pics and the new ones up today:bounce2:

Andrew, I have been dosing .8ml every 2 weeks, I estimate at a total of 125 gallons net volume.

Thank you Mike! I love the PL, had it in my 70gallon years back, just never found it locally, so I am pretty stoked to recover that piece. The corals are quite light in color, so I am too excited to watch them transition. Thanks again :)

LOL Dom, I guess I kind of forget about them, but I can tell you that the Seasons Greetings is now encrusted on to the eggcrate stand I have it sitting on, I will get some pics up soon, I guess fragging will be as simple as breaking the piece of eggcrate, lol... I moved the jedi mind trick higher up, on a shelf in the back of the tank for more light. The purple and red montis are not getting much light, but thriving, the color is pretty close too
