Perry's 120 Gallon Reef

Looks great Perry! I'm using sand for the first time in my 120 as well, specifically to keep wrasses and inverts....I like the look, but I'm waiting to see how it affects stuff long term.

It completed the look, looks a lot more natural now IMHO.

Even with your flow, do you agree with most and say the sand doesn't move? Looks great, that's for sure! :)

Thank You! I think it is important to have sand sifters, like cucumbers, sand sifting stars, tiger conchs, nassarius, ceriths, gobies, and any others I may have left out. This is why I choose the Reef Flakes, and for a very shallow bed. I want the benefit of a high flow environment for acros, but want the diversity as well. Thanks for looking over the journal :)

Awesome stuff!!!!!

Thank You :)

I can see the mp40 toward the bottom moving the sand ever so gently, as to not create a storm, but the detritus is lifting into the water column. If I had small grain sand, the tank would be a mess, lol... So yes, seaflor or reef flakes is a great choice for those who want the best of both worlds :)

I love the look with sand also. :) What gobies are you looking to get?

Thanks Ed! I am thinking of getting a yasha, yellow watchman, and likely a small sand sifter too. Stormborn Reef has the best fish around, they really are a class act at treatment of livestock, so I will pay a visit there, likely today. As far as wrasse go, yellow coris, melanarus, four line, and mystery are on deck. Cheers :)

as i said on fb looks really good!

hope it all turns out the way you hope!

let the wrasse come! :D

Cheers Buddy

Thank you Flo!!!

I'm digging it too. Looking forward to seeing the left side fill out.

Thank You,
I don't know why I loaded up the right and left all my slowest growers on the left side, but agree when it fills in, I will have a more complete look. Just time and patience I suppose :)

Added 3 more fish to the system today :) Candy Stripe Hogfish, Melanarus Wrasse, and a male True Perc to pair with my female. I also added some inverts to the system, a couple of fighting conchs, and a shortspine urchin. As time rolls by, my hopes are to continue to up my fish population and diversify with more inverts.
Here is my current Fish List:
2 True Percs
3 Bimaculatus Anthias(all females)
2 Lyretail Anthias(1 male and 1 female)
1 Foxface Rabbitfish
1 Yellow Tang
1 Melanarus Wrasse
1 Candy Stripe Hogfish

Total of 11 fish

Cheers!

Your tank is looking amazing! I'm liking the new additions as well. Melanurus wrasses are so cool!

Thank you Conor, I appreciate the kind words man, I love the sand addition, and most definitely like my new collection of fish, they are all super healthy, and since using Fish V from AF, I have noticed more vibrant colors and fish eat like pigs. All new arrivals seem very happy straight away, next week I will add a few more. Hopes are to have around 20 fish in the tank. I love tanks like yours where there are beautiful corals, but the heavy fish load makes for a more complete tank. I too love melanarus wrasses too, I think they have beautiful coloration, and they also deter pests, which I am sure you are aware :) Cheers!

I love wrasse Perry, especially Halichoeres and Fairy Wrasses. Just be cautious of that Hogfish though... they can be mean little buggers!

Can you tell us your feeding regime?

Thanks for the heads up, yeah the little guy was not shy when introduced and so far seems to go to the beat of it's own drum, lol... As far as feeding goes, I feed mainly LRS Reef Frenzy, I also feed PE Mysis. I usually feed at least 3 times per day, on days off, I feed even more, like 4-5 times. I give the tank a light pinch of spectrum pellets(small size) to give the juvenile true perc, at least yesterday I did, and will do so moving forward, as it is tank raised and the LRS may be too large for his mouth. I use the mysis once per day and LRS 2 times or more. I usually use a chunk the size of a quarter or larger each feeding, I also use AF Fish V every 3 days as a way to provide additional vitamins. Cheers :)

Sand looks great!!!

Thanks Ryan!

Thanks Greg!

Woohoo! :inlove: looks great Perry! Bring on the sexy wrasse's!!

Thanks Dom, yes I have already put the bug in my LFS ear to order some certain fish, hopefully I will get them soon! Cheers :)

Some coral photos, today is 6 months since beginning use of Aquaforest system. I am very happy with the products and their effect of my corals! Cheers...

I really enjoy watching a future TOTM develop but especially so when it belongs to a good mate. You'd be a grinning idiot standing in front of your SPS display at times wouldn't you Perry, i bloody well would be ;)

Sand looks orgasmic - i just removed 150lb of sand from the display to catch one green wrasse........ and can i tell you Perry, after what that fish had put my acros through throwing sand all over them all day for the last month - there was no swimming off into the sunset ending for that $%!&#* !:hammer:
