Perry's 120 Gallon Reef

The orange one is the Acid Trip Milli, and that is my #1 coral in the tank, very special coral to me, here is the full top down :)

IMG_7289.jpg

It's absolutely stunning Perry, i have lots of nice stuff but nothing as glowy bright as the pigments you are pulling from your acid trip piece. When you grow that into a colony, omg it's going to be ridiculous mate lol........

How many individual acro pieces do you have Perry, i tried counting mine today and it's around 70 on the rocks. I think i have way too many pieces in my display if the AF gets them growing :uhoh3:

Dave gave me comp A, B & C with a bottle of kallium to use for my DIY comp 123 instead of the small component strong 4 x 50ml box pack which only makes two batches of the 3 x 5L comp 123.
Can you tell me if it's the same thing at the same strength or is it watered down versions of what's in the strong box pack please Perry. I'll use it up regardless but in future and for Dave's info what's the go mate.

I have to say that being used to seeing bulk alk, calcium and Mg dissolved in RO with all the crap settled on the bottom of the buckets i use it was pretty cool to mix up the DIY comp 123 and see zero sediment on the bottom of any of the three 5L bottles. I used 25ml of the comp ABC instead of 25ml of ABC strong so i'm guessing i'm off to a soft AF balling start lol. It has to be better than just the plain alk and calcium etc i was doing anyway :)

Andrew,
I couldn't tell you the concentration levels, but I would just mix your own without the trace, and dose according to guidelines on a weekly basis. You could accomplish this by simply hand dosing micro elements or trace if you will, leaving the main minerals and Reef Mineral Salt to be dosed automatically. You could even divide your dose and do so on a daily basis, but as far as mixing in with the Component 123, you may have to do some math on this one mate, but I cannot see why it would hurt. For example, I go through the Component 123 about every 22 days, so if I had a daily value worked out for Component ABC, then I could simply multiply that value times 22 days to achieve a close to correct amount. Hope that helps mate! Thanks for the kind words about the Acid Trip Milli, she is going to be a beaut. As for acros, last time I counted somewhere around 55, but I think I have scored other since that count, either way, I too will be running out of room at some point :) Cheers!

Some decent pics taken this am, have worked on coral placement to even out the reef, the left side is taking off, certain corals, like acid trip, have visual signs of branching, very cool to see the growth coming along... Regards,

Perry, third, fourth and fifth shots are magnificent.

Thanks Perry, in future i'll just get the bloody comp strong boxes for the comp 123 so i know what i'm dosing compared to you and my other mates.

My plain alk draw was 170ml so i dosed 200ml of the fresh mixed comp 123 today and i'll see which way the alk and calcium move after 24 hrs.
The comp ABC says dose 10ml per 200L water - 30ml a week so atm with the mix i made and around 200ml a day that's 25 days dosing from the 5L bottles i made up. 1ml of comp ABC per day to my system or 7ml a week. I would need to use 100ml not 25ml of the comp ABC to get the same result unless my math is messed up (no chance - it's me biggles) :reading:

When i go to the shop on thursday to pick up the new sump i will grab a box set of comp strong and add 15ml of each to the right containers and then after that i will mix according to instructions. Bloody Dave :hammer:

Hello Bulent and thank you kindly, those shots show the layout and all the corals contrasting, I am glad you liked them, unfortunately much more growth to go, but time seems to travel by quickly these days, so maybe next year this time I will have a full tank, lol... Cheers

No worries, I will be making a suggestion to see if AF will package Comp Strong in larger capacity, more of a bulk buy option. The buckets of KH, Mg, CA, and Reef Mineral Salt look to spread a distance. It will take time to settle in to the parameters you like, but I can only offer positive experience since dialing in :)

simply amazing,as always perry:beer:

Thank you my kind friend, I appreciate the love :)

Thanks Perry, most of the other stuff makes up at least 6 batches of comp 123 - the alk and calcium will do over 12 batches and are great value imo for very clean chemicals.

I'd rather pay a better per ml price for 150ml box sets than ridiculous amounts of the undersized comp strong box sets.

If i want to run some phos minus in my 600L system in a mesh bag in the sump pump flow to actively lower phos do you think a cup would be a good start Perry . I used to run a cup of rowa and you could see it working when you added fresh stuff so i wonder how potent you think think the AF stuff is compared to other GFO.

Thanks for the help mate

Right now I am at 230ml per day, recently I began to mix the Component system myself, and I can see that the formulas I made are just a bit more concentrated, that is good by me.... Just have a few tweaks to make based on using old test kits and dosing Mag and Ca as I thought they were low, Salifert is amazing, but when you get towards the end of their tests, they seem to read the same, which led me to dose when I shouldn't of, along side the system that is.

Thanks Perry

Honestly Andrew, I would think 1 cup would do, I use in a reactor the same amount, it keeps me free of PO4, my volume is slightly less than yours, that being said, I think passively, you could go more like 1.5 to 2 cups. I have not had an experience with AF Phosphate Minus that ever had me nervous of stripping, quite frankly, I find it to be less aggressive. It has consistency of ROWAS, but to me more gentle. Good for some aquariums, maybe not so good for others. AF Phosphate Minus also reduces silicates, like ROWAS, in the aquarium, so to me they stand side by side. It does not require rinsing, however I do, just old school like that :) Cheers Mate!

Do you think you could get the same colors keeping your same water parameters of po4 = 0 and no3 of 2.5, without using aquaforest?

Ok, let me digress.....
Yes and no ;) I have seen some colors extend beyond what their photo'd linage suggests, so for that, I would have to say that without a doubt that the use of the line-up has pushed colors to different levels. This is where it really becomes within the within the eye of the beholder, personally I could push my system towards lower nutrients, but where I am at is quite nice, as far as my eye's see. Control is what is being missed, not colors, colors come with balanced conditions and proper in and out export. Having the ability to control that is what makes it easier, at least for me. I have reported in the past and current, that there is most definitely a certain glow that to me has not been witnessed in acros, in 10+ years. I have tried every possible way to keep these corals, but finally I feel more confident. I also will not forget to mention that fish health has been markedly improved, if you look over my journal, you will see ongoing issues with fish, they are now fat and extremely healthy. I feed tons and still control nutrients, the name of the sps game, IMO... Cheers

Thanks Perry

My pleasure ;)

Thanks for that mate, i added a cup in a bag for now and will watch and add more over the next week if i think i need to. I rinsed it and a bit of color comes out but stuff all compared to rowaphos which takes a while to rinse. When in doubt i rinse too lol.......:D

I removed the other bag of chemipure in case it was stripping anything in the comp 123 - you just never know........... :uhoh2:

Awesome as usual! Truth is there is not a bad or average looking piece in your tank. It looks like every single piece is bringing out secondary colors, some of them glowing.

Where is the Acid Trip? Would love some Acid Trip porn.

So Perry, you're the resident go-to AF guy; Sunday I finally managed to get my DKH to 7.3 dosing AF 1-2-3. Happy days! Sunday is my test day, P04 came in at 1.34, ouch! I believe the high P04 was due to storing some reef rock in my water change barrel that came from a high P04 system. My water change barrel has been running AF reef salt for 2 months now. Anyway, I filled a TLC reactor with Rowa, and I mean filled, pretty close to 1000 grams worth, ran the pump with RO/DI to clean out the fines, and set it in the sump. This evening I tested. DKH dropped to 6.2 and P04 dropped to 0.34. Is that even possible? DKH tested with Hanna, cross checked with Salifert. P04 tested with Hanna. The water change barrel had a P04 reading of 0.61. I have since moved the rock, scrubbed the barrel, refilled with RO/DI, and mixed a fresh batch of AF reef salt at 79* with a SG of 1.026. Is the Rowa messing with my DKH readings? Has AF done any testing with Rowa? These numbers have thrown me for a loop after only 24 hours of run time.

Just tested the new batch of AF reef salt, N03 and P04 zero. Happy to see the P04 numbers falling, somewhat fast for my liking, but concerned about the drop in DKH. Water change system has been activated, most interested in tomorrow's results.

Perry you have some sweet acros man, loving the pics. Trying to catch up on your thread now, you've been busy!
