Perry's 120 Gallon Reef

Hooley bloody dooley Perry............. those pics and your acro colors are just ridiculous mate........ do you shake your head sometimes when the lights come on thinking about how hard it used to be to get stunning results like you are most definitely getting now.
I wouldn't hesitate to run a full AF system based purely on the results you and Matt have clearly demonstrated in only a matter of months. Always smile when i see my mates getting the results they deserve for all the blood, sweat and slime we put into this hobby

I would giggle to myself standing in front of your display Perry, probably not wearing any clothes......... not that you needed to know that i suppose.......:hmm2:

Update that thread when you get the lamps, curious what you decided on? Have a great day Flo!!!
Cheers,

Thanks Mate!
You are too kind my friend :) As far as clothes go, nothing like a little freedom while observing the tank, hmmmm..... did I say that out loud? JK, too scared of the reflection mate, plus I am not sure the anthias would approve either :fish1:

Perry, with colors like that I understand why you're concerned about a little cyano -you have nothing better to do!!! Ha!

I was using premix, I asked them if mixing it per instructions with their dry powders makes the same product as the mixed stuff and they said yes.

Cool! I didn't know this.

I love your nasuta Perry. I have a different colour morph in my tank. The growth tips seems to be baby blue with a red hint. Keep up the impressive work Perry.

Looking good as always Perry!

Thanks Tim!
Hope all is well your way!

Perry, outstanding stuff! Your tank is coming along in an amazing way. So much color!!!

Thanks Connor,
I appreciate the kind words man! Hope your tank is well, last I saw, looked pretty incredible :)

Very nice Perry !!!. Nice colors.

Thanks Daniel,
I hope that FL is providing you with some good weather. I actually took the board to the beach yesterday, I couldn't stand up yet due to the the siatic, but it was great to get back in the ocean paddling and duck diving:) The weather on the E. Coast was beautiful, the water was nice and cool, did not even need a wetsuit, lol... I actually got a mild sunburn, feels great to get salty and vitamin D :) Enjoy the rest of the week!

Perry things are looking great man, so much color in your FTS.

Thanks Josh! The color is coming in well, I am looking for a bump in color once the system settles into the dosing of the component 3. Hope all is well.

Absolutely beautiful.

Thank You Very Much!!!

LOL,
If only that were the case. Well Mindy, I give up, I ordered the new Airstar 1500DC, and in 4" water, with air wide open, I still overskimmed. I put the Eheim back on, and just set it to a wetter skim. I will see if ATB will swap me for the DC1200, which is a hair smaller. I had the 1500 to lowest setting, just way too much power. If not, I will pull the air cap, and use as a return pump given the controllable option. The green cyano seems to be breaking a bit, but still present. I will just keep doing the elbow grease thing, and hopefully starve it out eventually. Oddly, the colors of the corals just seem to be improving, lol...

Perry again i just can say WOW...

colors are great and your acros look very healthy!!

keep those pichtures coming mate!

Flo

Thanks again Flo, I always appreciate you stopping in and giving my tank a bit of love, your are way too kind my friend :)

Thanks Bulent! I also have a raspberry nasuta frag too, it looks a bit different for sure. Funny thing about the Shades of Fall Nasuta is that it is believed to be the exact same coral as the Pink Lemonade, but the Shades of Fall actually looks a bit more green vs. yellow, but with the same colored polyps. I would love to see that morphed one, that is probably what we refer to over here in the states as the Blueberry Nasuta. Anyway, I appreciate the kind words Bulent!
Cheers,

Thanks Perry. I am completely oblivious to the names you have mentioned. Anyway, here is my nasuta (in fact if it is indeed a nasuta):

When I look at the coral perpendicularly through the glass, I can see golden coloured polyps. The growth rate is amazingly fast.

Thanks Bulent,
That is a killer piece regardless! It does have a nasuta look, but is sort of growing together in a plate, could be flow related, but I would bet on it being a nasuta. They tend to grow fast once they settle in and encrust, based on my experience, yours has most certainly found the sweet spot, again, beautiful piece!
Cheers,

Michael 6.48 since Monday afternoon on alk, set at 70 ml, seems like the sweetspot, we shall see, will test daily for a week straight. So far Tues and weds 6.48...
Cheers

Wow I am a little surprised it's holding steady with that. Good for you though. Mine I feel like I still have to increase my dosing pump each time I test. I wish I wasn't using so much, more cost and time refilling containers etc.

@Michael,
I decided on 70ml based on your advice that 50ml was not likely to be enough. I am really only testing alk, as it is my focus on dialing the balling system into place. I was only using 45ml per day of Reef Fusion, but lately I have had an explosion of growth, so I am pretty certain that my #'s are likely to go up. If I get to numbers like you, I will seriously consider going the CA RX route and dose in the micro elements. I feel pretty confident that this will not be a concern until next year. Hope all is well, thanks for checking in on the thread :)
Cheers!

What do you mean when you say "overskimmed"? Wet skimming is what I like to do to help with cyano, and the more powerful the skimmer the better. Do you do all your AF dosing in the evening? I learned many years ago that evening dosing of coral foods/aminos/etc works much better as far as feeding corals and not feeding algae, but I imagine you've discovered this too. I have a sniff of cyano in my tank right now too, but it's only on the side where the Gyre is. I think my tank is too small for a Gyre...the flow on the opposite side is very strong, but right under the Gyre there is barely any flow, and that's where the cyano is, and a bit of short hair algae too. Neither of which bother me right now. I had to add a powerhead to point under the Gyre because I was getting so much detritus build up under it, which did bother me.

On the food subject, are you using the AF Coral Food? Do you know anything about it? I have so many foods and products on my shelves already, I'm thinking I might have something I can use in place of the Coral Food for now. How big are the particles? How big is the scoop inside? Does it look anything like Reef Chili?

Yes I do the same base my my dosing off alk. Once I get it just right then I will just make sure others are where I want or adjust them with the buffer (no components strong).
Tank is looking fantastic Perry, keep up the good work.
