PET PEEVES....list them here

People who rant and complain about how expensive the hobby is. If you cant maintain your tank, this hobby is not for you.

I have never seen anyone "rant and complain" about how expensive this hobby is. You can have a little reef for a few hundred bucks if you're smart.

Didn't you all know that bio balls create nitrates. Even when they are new and not in water. Those dang bio-balls of death.

I do have some brown bananas right now. I had my appendix out and I was in a hospital for a couple days. I get home and guess what? brown bananas. I should have called a friend to come over and take care of my bananas. Bad husbandry. I guess I'll just eat them.:fun5:

How about just making banana bread?

I have this vision of employees at the local fish shop making bread, or maybe gumbo, from all the corals that die in their care. Yum? How does acropora taste anyway?

Having the same arguments in NTH every day

Or when I see really really basic questions being asked in either Reef discussion, Chemistry or Advanced Topics. What to test to see if your tank is cycled is technically a chemistry question
Oh that gets me as well, reading questions in the Reef Discussion forum that even the newbee's can answer in the NTTH forum.

Getting pet fish for a birthday present, then getting another tank, then having to get a second job at the LFS to pay for the 5 other tanks you are thinking about or currently trying to set up.

Ok, this is so shallow of me, but I guess it's allowed for the purpose of this thread.....

People who buy a big tank and post a shot of themselves, their wife, their kids, their pets, their empty beer/coke bottles, etc., sitting in the empty tank.

....yes, I know it's a big tank....no need for these pics to get a sense of scale.

guest coming over and tapping on the glass of my tank
then questioning why i didnt or did do it this way instead of that way and they have no experience in the hobby
ppl gettting on here and asking for help or advice then doing it the way they want to anyway.
"help my friends tank is overgrown w algea threads!!..."

lol off my chest

:D

The atrocious grammar of many people on the internet or even on paper. It drives me insane!!! (except for those who have english as a non-primary language of course)

I hate posts with titles like "HELP" or "question." It's not like I can tell by that title if it is even something I can be any help with.

People that lack common sense.

Ding ding ding!!

My pet peeve is when people come to RC and ask an opinion about something and when they are given a specific answer, they ingnore that/those answer/s until they hear what they want to hear. I'll give you a for instance; the proper housing and care of a mandarin. Gets my goat every time.

I would be more bothered by that if it wasn't so reasonable given the sorts of people who usually give advice and the resultant quality of answers people receive in a typical life. I'm not talking about here, but that mandarin is paying the price for all those other people giving advice about cars, love, plumbing, and every other little thing.

Frankly, if I had followed every bit of well intended and "experienced" advice I've been given I'd be dead three times over and even baring that I'd be lucky to afford a goldfish for all the crap I'd have bought and opportunities I'd have dropped. So I can't really fault people for ignoring "good" advice.

A pet peeve of mine is when people think there is only one way to do something for ever and ever. ORA captive bred, pellet-eating mandarins are a perfect example. This hobby evolves.
