Pic of SPS from my 275

Come by anytime - and not sure about having one of the best collections though, MANY great systems here on RC.

Thanks, always enjoy reading about your reef Lenoardo.

Woow, awesome score on the Acropora.

Leonardo

Thanks. Sandbed is about 1.5-2" under the rockwork (just deep enough to facilitate aquascaping) and about 1" around the perimeter.

great tank. how deep is the sand bed?

Picked this monti up for $30 and it was all brown, thought I could get some colour out of it as it was a unique looking species. Starting to see some yellow, if it goes all yellow with brown polyps, not bad. Should the polyps change colour even better. I have owned it for about 3-4 weeks now.

have you ever experience issues with the SSB as in nutrient retention, Nitrate issues?? o you stir it or remove/replace it periodically? I ask because I am experiencing some issues. Apologies if Im a little off topic

Thanks 250 :)

About the Montipora, I also think it will turn purple. I have a similar montipora, and in the heavy shaded areas it has almost the same colour as yours.

Well that would please me. Honestly, I have never purchased a brown coral before.

ten to one says they turn purple. ;)

I have never had any issues with the tank regarding nutrient retention, as least as far as I know. Honestly, I have never tested this system for nitrates and have never ran into a problem though to be associated with nitrates.

:D Thats why they are called fish tanks

oh... i thought we were all supposed to run super low stripped nutrient systems

(where's that tongue-in-cheek emoticon?)

No kip, that only if you want another thread like "why are my corals so pale"
tongue-smiley-8865.gif

Only if it was that easy!

I went low nutrient/low fish load a few years back (photos early on in the thread, including when I was TOTM).

Now I have a lot more fish, are the colors that much better, tough to say. I as pretty happy with the tank before. Now I notice the purples are much darker...the colors will be a little richer perhaps with more fish. That being said I don't think you can have every SPS in the tank looking it's best under the same conditions, some prefer less nutrients, some prefer more for optimal colour.

agreed

maybe i've been doing something wrong over the years, but i've found that bright blues and deep purples like two opposite ends of the nutrient-load spectrum

most tanks have corals from lagoons, back slopes, and reef crests all in one box... most have collections from different geographies and even different oceans

hard to make all of those guys happy under the same conditions

You could not have said it better. I am generally happy when I feel about 80% of my corals are looking their best. The other 20% may only look ok, but that just makes the other ones look even better.

Will see what I can do about a few more pics, but generally speaking I am not adding that many SPS to my tank these days. And 15 pages - yes it is becoming quite a lengthy thread. 40,000 views also, that's like 50,000 canadian :)

Went through all 15 pages, love the pics!!! Keep them coming.

Finally got the camera on this piece in the display. Believed to be another Subglabra as it appears identical to my "grape jelley" and was both collected and purchased at the same time. Gets bluist tips when real happy.
