Pic of SPS from my 275

Thanks! What I really like about it, is that many of the branches grow in a cascading, elongated fashion similiar to what you would see in a echinata or exquisita. Only much thinner.

agreed

maybe i've been doing something wrong over the years, but i've found that bright blues and deep purples like two opposite ends of the nutrient-load spectrum

most tanks have corals from lagoons, back slopes, and reef crests all in one box... most have collections from different geographies and even different oceans

hard to make all of those guys happy under the same conditions
Your findings I believe are correct I do great with blues , However I cant get good purples. So which end of the nutrient load makes better blues or purples?

i can strip my tank and have vivid/glowing blues

purple... still not an expert on purples... but looking back thru my own pic library... i get more purple when there is a little bit of algae around.

Awesome tank !!!

Since I read your TOTM, you did a few water changes is this tank

Do you change this routine ? Are you doing more WG or not ?

Regards

I think a great purple is really up to the coral. A truely nice purple is one of the tougher finds in the hobby IME. I have 2 purple corals now and they are great - in the last, well many years, I have honestly not seen that much in really nice purples. Blue are not tough to come by.

Honestly - still not doing that many water changes. Think I did 2 or 3 last year. 2 were about 20G, and I did a 30G water change about 3 weeks ago (because my DKH went to 14 after replacing my CA reactor media with a new style). Have lots of fish also now - one mess of nice wrasses.

Pics from Yesterday

So - I have not been around that much lately (online or locally) becuae I am in the process of finishing my basement. That being said, tank is looking pretty good. With the exception of a DKH spike maybe 2 weeks ago, colours are strong and growth is brisk :)

Snapped some pics yesterday. Will get some of the basement also. Will be quite the spead when done. 270 SPS domniant starphire tank, 26000 BTU gas fireplace (installed yesterady), 50 or 58" plasma screen with 7 speaker surround.

Lets focus on the SPS for now.

Great stuff Dave. I love the different species that you guys get. It seems more and more of the stuff that is coming in down here is maricultured. Thats great for the hobby, but when you like deep water species like myself, its not so bueno.
Thanks for sharing.

No kip, that only if you want another thread like "why are my corals so pale"
tongue-smiley-8865.gif

I am finding this out. especially after dosing vodka. I had in a 130 gal volume system:

3" purple tang
3" hippo tang
2" onyx clown
2" bangaii cardnal
2" filament wrasse

Colors faded so I added:

3- borbonius anthias
2" regal anglefish
2- bartlett's anthias

I hope color will brighten up

Thanks!

Amazing corals :) Good job :)

The FTS is always tough for me.........may try again as the tank is pretty full and in need of some pruning.

Do you have a recent FTS?
