Picasso / Rodonyx FIRST BATCH OF EMBRYOS

How did you catch the fry again? I've got my second spawn of black ocellaris and I think I'm going to try and raise this batch but I'm not sure how to get the fry out of the tank right at hatching.
Any tips?
Thanks and good luck with this batch!

i made this "snagger" based on some of the recommendations in the breeding forum. you should ask someone in there so you can see other setups. mine worked well for me.

i actually have since replaced it. ive ordered a waterproof moonlight instead. the one you see in the pic, got wet when i was removing the larvae from the tank.

yes . the larvae are attracted to the moonlight. the pump on the opposite end causes flow at the opening on other end to pull in the larvae. the trick is to set the flow so its not too strong but than strong enough to pull the larve thru.

ill post more pics when they dev. there headband. should be within a few days. at this point. they are just more orange/dark with fat bellies. not much diff than you see with the pics in the last page.

Neet. That is a different style fry scooper than mine. I put a pump inside of two coffee filters and used a U tube with a "boat". That all sits in a container to hold the fry (represented by the white thing :p ) It works great since the light just shines down the U tube hole and the fry swim straight up to it.

I really like how yours eliminates the U tube. The first batch I caught U just used the U tube without the boat and a lot of fry got damaged because the tube had to be below the surface. The fry would swim above it and get sucked around that corner very violently. Now the tube is flush with the bottom of the boat and most of them swam directly up from the anemone to the hole this time and I think there was much less damage. It looked just like a classic alien movie where something gets drawn up into the tractor beam from the mother ship :)

yeah i saw a few models with the use of the U tube and it just seemed a little trickier for me. but i think there are many ways to get them :)

anyway update: its day 10 now and there actively eating bbs. i plan to use rotifers while im away. i anticipate hatch #2 within the next 2-3 days. so well see how if my snagger is as successful the second time around.

night 9 of batch #2. very successful :)

over 600 larvae im guessing. this time around im set with green water :) and leaving lights on for the next 48hrs. i love my snagger :)

yes 30 :) several have defined very white headbands, but not all so i assume they going thru meta or finishing it up.

ill try to take pics of the headbands when i get back.
