Picasso / Rodonyx FIRST BATCH OF EMBRYOS

tks :)

what ive noticed in the babies is that they have very thick/wide tail region. this is the same body displayed in the male/rodonyx. whereas the female has a more typical tail shape. this may just be baby dev. but im hoping its a good sign of the males genetic dominance. ive only seen this body characteristic in rodonyx clowns.

tks dc. :) it has been a fascinating journey so far.

anyway, i prepared my snagger for potential hatch last night (day8), but no go.

im confident it will happen tonight.

this will be the second batch in a row that the hatch was at day 9. hopefully this will continue as a definitive pattern.

embryoguy your clowns are making me soo exited i am nervous i will not be able to get some or one of them what will you do with all those babys surely you cant keep them all to yourself

grink.

ill take an updated pic when asap.

first batch is doing really well. white headband is getting wider.
second batch is going thru meta and dev. headband.
third batch im experimenting so well see.

anyway here is my updated snagger to hopefully incr recovery rate.

revised snagger 1/6/7

added black floor panel to prevent light from moonlight to shine thru the snagger and light up the sandbed below.

added cross/diagonal panel to reduse flow/whirlpool affect from the suction/pump. the larvae will get pushed thru than the opposite side will have very reduced flow.

what do you do to raise fry?? i might try and breed my orange and black ocelarris babies, then i would seel them to the shop, but it should be interesting too raise them, what do you need to do

please go to the breeding forum. there is too much you need to know to even have a slight chance to do it to make a profit.
you need to get this book by wilkerson. im in no position to advise well. ive only been doing this for a little over a month.

the breeding forum will help.

Great looking babies.
Grink dude,
It is difficult (I was going to said extremely hard) to make profit from breeding clowns unless you do huge operations like ORA or one of the larger breeders. Even breeding for fun and interested, I would not cross a Black and Orange Ocellaris. It will be hard for you to move this type of babies unless you give them away. Even giving them away, many if not majority of reefers would not want them. It is like a mix breed dog, you cannot sell them because no one is willing to pay for them.

How was the rest of the hatch.
Batch 1 looking good. How many do you still have in that group? You will run out of room at this rate soon. I guest then concentrate on raising them and see how they turn our. They look great and should be good.
BTW, does the BTA in the breeding tank affect the color of the parents?

orion,

thank you for your thoughts.

update:

A. batch #1: eating very well. a few show some dark pectoral fins now :) i have about 25 from that group.

B. batch#2: about 75 doing well. most have headbands now. i will prob group them with the first batch after they starting eating dry foods.

C. batch#3: about 50 remain. day 4. silver bodies. this batch was odd. the hatch was delayed and half hatched with lights on during the following day. so any survivors here are a blessing. poor eggs? not sure.

as for the next batch, im going to change up another variable. will delay there hatch time for a 3 hrs. this will hopefully force them at my schedule. :) also modifications to my snagger might make it more gentle in catching the larvae, which may indirectly help there survival.

my problem remains getting thru days 2-3. this is where i sustain a heavy loss.

as for the color with btas. i have a thread that there is a discussion on this. my conclusions are that its not definitive. some clowns will have fade from there bta. others will not in the same bta.i think individual clowns reaction to the stinging cells plays a major role and wate chemistry/ph contrbutes also.
as you can see from my pics of the parents, the particular rbta they host in does not affect there black. ive had one pair of onyx fade in a bta. move them out. moved another pair into the same bta and there black remains strong.... only diff? the clowns!. so its just a matter of luck if you happen to have a pair that does not fade in yoru bta.

if i wanted to assure color dev. i would not let any onyx host in a bta. :)

This is very interesting embryoguy! With all this success, I'm curious what you are going to do with all these clowns! I'm not in the market at all, just curious.

I hope embryoguy gets an award from the President of the United States.... This is awesome!!!! I cant wait to see some of the babies develop!

good work embryo i think what your doing is really helpfull to the clown community opening up all your techniques is really cool
love your fish
