Picasso / Rodonyx FIRST BATCH OF EMBRYOS

i have many many :) but if i sell i want to make sure everyone gets the highest quality clownfish. one that will / have dev. the way they want it. im more concerned about quality of body/color/pattern than to see how many i can sell. at this time im just not 100% sure what they will become. im confident i will have onyx but the quality of onyx is yet to be determined. in addition, i do feel confident so far the male, rodonyx has transfered some strong genetics to its offspring. this is most evident in the quality of the headpattern. a trait i see unique to rodonyx clowns.

tks everyone for looking. i will update with pics at the next stage of development.

something to think about though :) i have a "secret" pairing im trying to dev. that i think will be extremely unqiue. i ve never seen anyone even consider this type of pairing. hopefully by end of the year ill have a spawn. anyone that is interested in this picasso/rodonyx pair, will LOVE the pair im trying to dev. in the future :)

sorry no hints. i want it to be a surprise :)

secret pair eh you are funny

my guess is snowflake/ BW occelaris

but you allready revealed that on your forum so we shall seee..... :)

First of all I want to say to Embryo, congrats and keep up the good work. Threads like this are the reason I am setting up a second SW tank after my first failure a few years ago. I love breeding my Cichlids, but the prospect of breeding clowns has always intrigued me.

Keeping in mind that I am a SW & clown noob, what is all this Rod's stuff you guys keep refering to? A link would be much appreciated.

I also learned that I had better start reading the breeding forum and constructing my own devices so that hopefully in two years time I will have the supplies needed to try to rear my own batch of fry.

Thank you again for all your hard work and dedication.

guys sorry iv have not made any recent updates. there definetly getting bigger but no significant changes worth taking pics of. i will post pics as they dev. im confident i will get onyx babies but im really looking for ones with odd patterns.

as for those who have asked if i will sell them. prob. in the future if they dev. into high quality clowns. otherwise i would highly recommend purchasing clowns from rod. his clowns are proven , mine are not. i would not feel right selling clowns that are not proven. if i sell, i want to make sure everyone gets a high quality clown with a good body. a clown that i would want as a collector. i would not feel right selling clowns with "potential" as these are right now.

thank you for everyones patience.

in addition i will continue to update on my site, just click on my little red house. i have a few pairings im trying to dev. which i hope will make my breeding adventures even more interesting.

We're getting update withdrawals. Maybe some will be happy owning just a nice pair of clowns and doesn't have to be true onyx? I noticed that under your Red House that you maybe culling a lot of them. :( I hope not because they aren't the right color. I can see it if they are deformed as in the wild, they would probably never survive anyways.

update babies 4/12/07

babies41307058.jpg

babies41307053.jpg

note: first band on babies to the right. the first band hugs the eye consistent with father rodonyx.
babies41307051.jpg

note, dark shadowing in center baby. approx. 70% show appearance of dark shadowing throughout body. time will tell if this is true onyx dev.
babies41307045.jpg

note: good body shape on center baby. body stocky like rodonyx father.
babies41307042.jpg

approx. 70% of the babies have:

stocky bodies and wide head band which hugs the eye similar to there father.

most also have dark shadowing throughout entire body. camera lighting was diff to demostrate this. hopeful but not sure if this will result in full onyx. time will tell.

clowns are not for sale at this time. will only be sold if high quality onyx are developed. they still need alot of time to dev. so please no pms. will not sell potential onyx. only when i feel confident they will dev. full onyx will any be considered for sale. tks for patience.

That is a good looking clown...(the last picture)

You've got hundreds of healthy little ones, and my two are having a rough time...lol :)

They're looking absolutely wonderful! I can't wait to see how they'll turn out later on, whether they have onyx coloration, or if you have any really cool misbars. They certainly have some beautiful gene stock to start with! I wish you continuing luck with your children! ;)

Edit: I just noticed that you'll only be offering for sale the clowns that develop Onyx coloration...what happens to the rest of them? I certainly hope you'll consider supplying an LFS or local aquarium with them rather than culling them, they all look so healthy!

if you carefullly look at the pics , you can really see the black shadowing. i had to use flash in the pics to get clarity so the dark is washed out except in some. but most have good onyx dev. i think. well i hope lol :) i pray :)

There certainly are a lot of clowns that show good Onyx potential at this point, that's for sure. They all have a beautiful shape to them, as well. Every aspect of these little guys is just top notch!

What criteria did you use for culling? Did you have any fish that had the deformed/bent gill plate that is sometimes present in CB clowns, and was this something that you culled for?

And what about the few little ones who don't develop the onyx black, but are otherwise healthy? I'm sure people would still be interested in them even if they are just orange. The shape is wonderful and you've obviously taken great care in rearing them. If I can't save my little pair from whatever it is that plagues them I certainly wouldn't mind taking a couple of your non-onyx off your hands :)

surprisingly i have not lost a single clown in the grow out stage. they will eat anything i throw in. ive only had to cull about 10 clowns for bent gill plates so far. i do see a more but their hard to catch out at this point. im surmising about %5 have bent gill plates.
