pico reef pest algae problem challenge

Started last night on both methods....doing a tank dose on a 10g that has 1 clown and 1 finger leather. This tank is pretty bad, so we'll see how it all goes. On the larger tank, I pulled a few pieces of rock that had corals on it....did a dip and slosh on these. I did fully submerge the small birdsnest in 50/50 mix for a few minutes....doesnt seem to be any ill effects...guess we'll see later if that stands to be true. The BOP birdsnest had full strength 3% poured and sloshed on...same results. The 10g is horrific, and I intentionally left it that way (did not remove and algae) to see how well the tank treatment goes. Sure there are no corals in there (minus the finger leather) but no effects seemed to happen when the first dose was added. Here are the sad looking pics.

I goofed, those pics from earlier was from day 1 after the treatment, here is day 2 (today). The 10g I won't post because its going slower (tank dosed) however the main tank where the rocks were pulled and treated is going just like everyone has mentioned. What algae is left is turning white and falling off or being eaten off by cleaning crew or tangs. The small birds nest which had a lot of algae on it and was completely submerged for 2-3 min in 50/50 mix looks amazing and almost all algae is gone. The large BN has some results, though it s not submerged, that had 100% of 3% peroxide poured and splashed on the coral itself ( had algae growing inside the nest...hence the dead white parts...NOT from the peroxide treatment). The rock who the blastos and ricordia, I want to say I had that submerged on the 50/50 mix...rock has almost all algae gone, blastos and ric took a bit to open, but looking better and better each day. The rock to the left with the purple tip acro, algae almost all gone, the acro itself seems to be a tad lighter in color. I can't remember if I had submerged this one or if it was the splash method. Bt the polys are out and seems to be happy.

I had almost the same scenario with a pink birdsnest. I didn't have the guts to do a 50/50 dip, so I took it out of the display today and spot treat with 100% 3% peroxide (directed to the algae). I'm sure I hit the birdsnest a few times. Algae is turning white, and polyps are extending again. We'll see how it goes over the next few days. The spot treatment worked well on all my other rock, so I'm optimistic. Your results look great.

Thanks, I'm really happy with the outcome too. Your birdsnest will be fine. I actually forgot about dipping then removing, so I just left it in, lol.

hi i have alot of bubble algae on all my rock i am willing to spend a day stripping the tank and treating with peroxide but is it safe to treat all rock in one go?.

i would be removing rock scrubbing it the spraying neat 3% on it leaving for 5 min then rinsing in old tank water

is this ok? other option is to inject peroxide in every bubble which willl take weeks

Yes because you are just target killing the valonia it won't hurt bacteria

Take pics before and after pls that's the best documentation for sure
You'll get most of it on first pass, but its likely a touchup will be needed to catch missed ones

Just below the toadstool coral above there is neomeris macro algae, its worse...can take over a whole tank be sure and zap it too or fire burn it

If you can remove your rock from the display, pop/remove the valonia, apply 3% peroxide directly to affected areas, rinse with fresh water, and replace rock to your display. Just my 2cents. Good luck!

I'm seeing more than 1 type of algae on those rocks though....I'd pull a couple pieces, do a full soak treatment, wait a few days...pull some more and treat..repeat until you're done. That would be my approach.
