Pics of new basement sump!

I moved my tank 2 weeks ago. What a brutal event. I started at 8 AM and didn't get the fish and corals back into the tank for almost 12 hours. During the process of maintaining the tank in my old house for 2 weeks while we moved into our new house and eventually moving in and getting this basement sump going cost me 2 fish, a star fish, and at least a couple of corals. I'm hoping that things stabilize now that we're all under one roof. To make matters more stressful, I've been on the road for the past 3 weeks and will be on the road for at least 3 more.

I'm not happy with the way that the plumbing came out. I had 3-4 leaks from PVC joints that I patched with that home depot plumbers goop (I've done PVC plumbing dozens of times and have never had one leak, let alone multiple).

I don't trust the goop, and the hard PVC is bringing some noise from the return pump upstairs, so I'll probably end up redoing things with spaflex once I'm not traveling.

Enough of all that... on to the sump:
-Display is 10' over head with a beananimal overflow (display pics will have ot wait until things settle a bit)
-75G sump on a 24" stand
-29G fuge on a 36" stand
-Blueline 70HD return pump, throttled back 1/3, feeds the carbon chamber and routes back to the skimmer chamber and fuge.
-Display feeds the closed channel into the skimmer section, open channel into the fuge, and emergency overflow into the center.
-1.5" plumbing
-The fuge has a chamber that I might use for frags at some point, but I'm not sure how I'll light it.

those kinds of weird angles suck for rigid plumbing. I can only imagine what a PITA that was! Now I see why vibrations can easily get magnified and transferred to the upstairs.

Yeah, the angles gave me heart burn. The basement wasn't bad, it was the small run directly behind the tank that gave me the hardest time.

Nice job that skimmer is nuts. What are you running in the filter housing?

Thanks! I had the skimmer swimming in 18" of water back when I was using it in my 29G sump. I always thought that it ran great, but I like hte way that it runs in 9" of water a lot better.

The canister is my BRS carbon chamber. I was feeding it with a MJ1200 before, but decided to use some of hte excess capacity from my return pump to cut a device out.

I'm so jealous of you folks that have basement sumps.

Sounds like between the move, plumbing all the tanks , setups,on top of the travel ,more than had your hands full. Some tweaking here and there, big deal.Seems so much better than cramming everything in a cabinet.I like the extra water volume you've got to work with.
Good luck from here.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

I'm pretty psyched. The biggest benefits so far are getting water changes away from my nice hardwood floors, getting all of my production of RO and new salt water out of my kitchen, and getting my skimmer into less water. Since I'm making my RO in the basement now, I started diverting the waste into the washing machine. Incredible to see how much H2O I was throwing out before.

I didn't make it over to office depot before I left town again. So I'm going to scour the office that I'm working in for a couple of unused mouse pads before I leave work one of these nights. The sump room is right below my office. I'll want to try to soften that hum a bit before I work out of hte home office on Friday.

nice Ben..You had a pretty nice system tucked away under the tank before, this is 10 time better.. nice upgrade

Congrats on getting everything moved over. Looking forward to seeing how the BeanAnimal overflow setup turned out for you.

I mean i know ur all plumbed up bu u coukd try spa flex. If yo look in my build thread look at my sumps pic their was no way with the wall in the way the celing and the floor beams thati i could of dont the piping hard. I have the overflows returns and the closd loop all threw my floor in my livong room and yo litteraly hear only water overflowing.

Just an idea.
