pink lemonade

That is why I don't like the common names applied to these corals........no science behind it at all.....is that "Pink Jade" any less beautiful than the so called "Pink Lemonade"? Not IMO. I can't tell the difference at first glance..............one thing I noticed is how the "Jade" has Pink tips on the corrilites and the "Lemonade" does not appear to have them.....both are equally beautiful.....and my guess is the "Jade" is much less expensive!

It's been around for awhile. I'm pretty sure it originated from Tyree's collection, than made it's way to the ExoticReefs crew. After a couple of years, it sort of became an afterthought, until Hugo got it to develop a green base.

Next thing you know, it's the hottest thing:p

Hey Karl,

What's up bruddah. Say just a bit of a correction - I bought it from Tyree about 4 years ago as what he used to call salvaged fragments - fragments that were from wild colonies and not from any of the farmers or from his collection. From what I remember it was the only salvage frag FWIW.

Just for the record here is the original salvage frag:

I grew it back when Iwasakis banked with atinics were popular and these are the various looks under this lighting regimen:

It was definately one of my favorites back then but not until it was given a lot of blue by Robie Sayan and Chris Pasko and a picture of it circulated did it start to make noise though:

At first it is a crazy encruster and seems to be slow growing but once it gets to a certain size it really takes off. In 2.5 years Hugo was able to grow the frag I sold him into I would say a 7" tall colony! - very impressive!

The other unique part to this coral is that it has a purple edge growth and in some cases apparetnly you might see this in the axial corallites. I haven't seen this personally though.

John's experience with the Pink Lemonade mirrors mine. I got a frag from a wonderful and generous reefer (Jesus) and it had blue/purple encrusting edges on it. Since I put it in my tank, the blue has gone away. No idea why. It still contiunes to encrust like mad and has little vertical growth as of now. I'm hoping that will change soon.

Yeah, mine is the exact same. When I got it, it was more green - then a friend (sidewinder770) baked it under intense T5/660, like 4" from the bulb practically. It really yellowed up. When it got to my tank it developed more green, but the leading edge and axials all turned soft purple. The one thing about this acro that is the same in all pix tho is C-RAAAZY pe. It is also a crazy encruster - although I have a bunch of branches starting to come out of the base. In Tubs' post I have had pix 2, 3 and 4 - but never 1 (thankfully) or 5 (bummer!). Always crazy PE though.
