pink millepora tank overheat

Thanks, trying to get these phosphate levels under control.. slowly but surely!

Judging by all the algae in the pics, Id say your nutrients are just as much to blame as the heater catastrophe...
You would be wrong then. Corals can do just fine in system that grow algae. Not every one runs ULNS. I have seen SPS thrive in tanks with a lot more algae than in that pic.

I've had SPS survive and thrive in a very high nutrient systems before (my old 72 bowfront had no skimmer / I did a 5gallon water change monthly - that's it!).

Based on the pictures I think that coral will pull through. 101 is a hell of a temperature to hit (did I read that right?!). If it survives, that's pretty awesome.

Sorry for your loss but at least there is something positive in the end. Best of luck.

Thanks guys but no need to argue nutrients - I haz them, no arguments there. I doubt seriously they are/will inhibit the comeback of this piece, but what can you do.

I cranked the lights back up to 'phazer' setting recently and celebrated my stable parameters and slowly clearing Algae problem by adding a few pieces of coral over the last couple days, so we'll see if they survive/thrive as well. 102 degrees is a lot to come back from but it appears this piece will make it all the way to it's final destination in my display tank.

I'll keep updating this thread, but with the skimmer now things are really looking up.

Unless your tank has an overload of life, I think getting something to run gfo will help you more than a skimmer would, jme. I've been running skimmerless since getting back in with heavy wc to keep everything in order, but I did have issues in my 65 at one point due to overstocking, no skimmer, and no mechanical filtration to help out. Even the 30g wc a week weren't helping. Not to say it won't survive and grow, but it won't thrive in an environment with a ton of nutrients. As always though, no matter what the situation for the most part, I firmly believe stability is key. Great job on bringing it back from death!

no GFO for this tank, no room. Right now the uptake by the algae I do have means that testing the water nets very, very very low readings. I have eliminated a couple sources of it and have seen less growth so hopefully I'll end up on the winning end of this fight. The skimmer however, was vital. I travel too much to maintain weekly water changes and the Cyano had taken over the tank. Finally the water got murky even 24 hours after an 80% water change- something had to change. That's when I put in the skimmer. 24 hours later, clear water. 3 days later, hardly any cyano. now, I have very very little cyano and crystal clear water. And MUCH happier coral.

Chris, the 101degree Milli is doing very well! Thanks for updating the thread. Well done keeping it alive and well. Now grow it into a nice colony. :D

It has, admittedly taken this long to color back to the proper pink color and it is near completely regrown all the tissue loss plus more now. It has gained some mass but not much. It did have a run in with a hollywood stunner chalice so we've had to recover from that too

I agree with Sahin; the mill is looking very good, as is that tort (just a guess). Looks like you're treating them well. Congrats. :)

Thanks Kasey,
I think that's a Teal Acro Echinata (https://www.google.com/search?q=tea...FIi3yAT7oIHgAw&ved=0CC0QsAQ&biw=2048&bih=1051)

this is (a much older picture of) some of what's in the little biocube waiting for the 180 to be done

It's nice to have the tank on somewhat of an auto-pilot mode for a few months before the big move. Hopefully the Milli makes the move and continues it's growth.

Whatever it is, it looks awesome. :D That's a nice collection of frags as well. I hope the move is nice and smooth!

Haven't gotten it moved but it's in grow out mode for some reason:

sometimes tank overheats DO have happy endings!
