Pintail Earlie's Wrasse!

I've bought my Earl's from this online store and mine didn't look exactly like the picture. In your case it will be obvious because of the pintail, but let us how how your experience went.

I still find it odd that it seems like that no one who has owned a rounded caudal fin Earlie has had their's develop a lanced tail. This essentially means that none of the current Earlie's in captivity have ever gone terminal.

I also find it odd that even if the divers had to only go 'a little' deeper at to collect this lanced tail Earlie, that none of the earlier Earlie collected have shown at least the beginning transition of a lanced tail. Even Lemon speculates his theory in the RB article.

I really don't like talking about prices, but since this one was on a vendor website, I paid $800 for it shipped.

I'll definitely be posting more pics and videos of it when I receive it. I'm praying that it'll go through QT and the observation period with flying colors. It'll be a good couple months before it'll get into my reef tank.

Wayne, have your earlei's shown any aggression towards one another? I have had a male earlei for a few months now (doing great!) and I would love to get a female earlei so I can see it flash/display. I really don't want to risk an all out war if you or anyone else thinks it's bad to add another earlei to my tank that has an established one in it.

Actually, no. Mine are very peaceful and have never shown any aggression yo each other or any other wrasse. Now that my tank is a bit crowded now, I have noticed my male flashing a little more often but that's about it.

I've heard others experiencing aggressive Earlie's, but that's never been my experience.

Thanks Wayne. I always considered the earlei's to be peaceful. I was shocked to hear that they can be mean. Very interesting.

Did you get the fish yet Wayne?

Yup! Just got it and it was packaged very well and arrived safely. It definitely has a lanced tail, but my first impression was that it was smaller than I expected for a terminal male. In fact, I think the smallest of my current trio is larger than this one.

Anyway, I'm water acclimating it now as we speak. Then I'll do a quick Formalin bath and then 2 weeks of TTM and Prazi. More pics to come...

Here's one just so you can get an idea of it's size:

Wayne, awesome fish first of all!

Second, do you have your QT protocol posted somewhere around here? Are you doing PraziPro prior to transfers 1 and 3? Do you normally only do the one formalin bath?

Sorry for all the questions!

It's still a bit shy, but eating so I can't complain...here's crappy iphone video (I didn't want to get oo close and scare it while it was eating):

Do you feel the picture he posted on his site was representative? All his earl's look super red in his pictures, but when I got mine, it just didn't look the same.

Actually, I thought his picture didn't do the wrasse justice. My second impression when I unbagged it was, 'Wow, it's really vividly red!'. I thought it looked redder than my current one.

I'm sure I posted it before but I basically give all my new fish a 45 minute 1ml/1gl Formalin bath. Then I perform TTM. Depending if the fish is eating right away and how it looks, I dose Prazi on the 1st and 3rd change. If it's a delicate or shy fish that's not eagerly eating, I save the Prazi for the end of TTM.

If it's an angel that's eating well, I'll do a formalin bath one or two more times just because of their propensity for flukes. HTH.

Should have gone with a six-line.....

Kidding, amazing fish! Good luck!

What's next on the list?

Hopefully a juvi Kingi!

I never would have thought a wrasse could handle formalin dips. It's good to know they are tolerant of the medication.

Yeah, I've given the bath to several different wrasses and they all tolerated it very well. I just make sure I have a airstone cranked pretty high.
