Bangaii Cardinals

Bangaii Cardinals

I am considering adding a pair or single Bangaii cardinal to my 29g.

Current stock:

Pair of B&W clowns
YWG
Fire shrimp
Harlequin shrimp
Myriad of inverts

Skimmer is Deltec MCE300 rated for 90g. I think I should be able to hold a larger stock because of the skimmer.

Any thoughts on the Bangaii? Or any other recommendations?

-Kaudern's cardinalfish (one or two maybe?)
-McCosker's Flasher Wrasse
-Spiny Blue Dwarf Lobster not reef safe
-Saddleback Clownfish mixing clownfish species will not work
-Chevron Tang (1in) your tank is not really large enough for one tang let alone two tangs

Or is that too many fish for a tank that size?

see comments. Would be too many fish in that sized tank

you can probably add a Bangaii, maybe even a male + female pair

Hi my name is Gary and I'm am somewhat new to the hobby of salt tanks. I am running a canister filter...oooooo I know I need a sump, if you have that or a chiller sitting around let's know please. I'm concerned about my arrow crab and coral banded shrimp, ever since I introduced the arrow crab my CBS has become hostile and hides all the time. Should I removed the arrow crab and get some cleaner shrimp instead? Or what? I currently have two banded Percs, blue tang, hermit crap, CBS, and arrow crab in my 60 gallon tank. Thanks for an help.

This thread is about marine fish compatibility. Your Hepatus tang needs a much larger tank. Both arrow crabs and Coral Banded Shrimp can take fish.

What if he can't add both of them @ the same time? Which fish should he add 1st?
always most passive first, in this case the Chaetodontoplus duboulayi.

Hi Steve,

Okay - We have located both fish from 2 different seller & sizes. False Personifer Angelfish (Chaetodontoplus meredithi) is going to be about 4-5 inches & Scribbled Angelfish (Chaetodontoplus duboulayi) is a little bigger about 6-7 inches.

Question is: Can we add both at the same time?

excellent size differential. Ideally both should be quarantined together, but their size will make that difficult unless you do tank transfer with different buckets. Tank transfer protocol is in my blog, also a sticky in Fish diseases forum. Adding together should be fine.

Sorry after the fact question... Am I going to have continued trouble?

Had a Longfin Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus rubriventralis) in my 120 with a few peaceful tank mates... no issues for a couple weeks....

Last night added a McCoskeri Fairy Wrasse (Paracheilinus mccoskeri) who is quite a bit larger to the tank... The Longfin... immediately attacked it and cruised the tank trying to hunt it down as the McCoskeri hide repetitively. Lights went out in about a hour later. This morning McCoskeri was still in it's hiding spot from last night.

Tank has ample live rock and tunnels and caves. Will they find a happy medium given the McCoskeri is actually larger or can I expect an on going issue with a tragic ending if I don't remove one?

Thought that they were different species I was going to be ok.

Thanks much.

Cirrhilabrus rubriventralis is one of the more aggressive fairy wrasses. You will likely continue having problems. For future additions of similar species, get an acclimation chamber to put the newcomer in for social acclimation and to diffuse initial aggression from existing tank mates.

55 Gallon AGA, Reef Octopus BH-90 HOB skimmer, 40 lbs LS, 50 lbs LR. In Fallow stage due to ich outbreak but lost my fish in HT. So now I'm left with a cleaner shrimp and CUC and a fallow tank! I'm proposing the following stocking list (somewhat in order, would love your feed back on order). I plan to QT (10 gallon) 2 at a time with exception of the semi aggressive angel so I don't have to wait over a year to stock my tank.

1 Purple Firefish, 1 Blue/Green Chromis (Hopefully Qt'ed together???)
1 Black/white clown, 1 watchman goby (hopefuly Qt together)
1 Bartletts Anthias (QT solo)
1 Lemon Peel Dwarf Angel (QT Solo)

Is the stockign capacity ok, and the order? Thanks in advance for your suggestions, you always do a great job!

Hey Snorvich -

I'm thinking about stocking 3 or 4 Bartlett's Anthias in my 75 Gallon tank. A couple of questions -

Is it safe to treat them with copper in a QT? I just had a bad ich outbreak, I'm in my 7th of 10 weeks of keeping my tank fallow, and I don't want to go through that again...

and

Are they considered 'jumpers?' I currently have an open rimless.

Thanks a ton for you time and help -

A larger tank is desirable for a group (125g+), this species often turns male

yes although tank transfer is better

all fish can jump, anthias do not have a propensity for doing so

Thanks a ton for you time and help -

order is fine, biocapacity is fine. Be sure to wait the full 10 weeks of fallow time.

Will do. I'm on week 4 already. BUT do you think that Quaranting those select pairs of fish would be ok? The clown with the goby and the firefish with the chromi?

I would be concerned about the firefish chromis pairing. In fact I would not get the chromis at all.

I've read you said before that it is risky for one clown to be kept bc it will turn female and possibly aggressive. Could I maybe replace the chromis with another clown and have a black white and a normal orange? Then just qt the clowns together and then qt the goby with the firefish?

Yes, that would work. Be sure they are tiny.

Hello! I'm trying to plan out my next tank (I've been out of the hobby for a while), and am trying to put together a stocking list for a 38 gallon tank. Here goes:

1) Ocellaris clownfish
2) Royal gramma
3) Either a) sixline wrasse (added last and hopefully won't attack the others), b) mystery wrasse (tank may be too small?), or c) Midas blenny and pink streaked wrasse (blenny added last)

I'm guessing that the answer is going to be 1) sixlines are too aggressive to say that the other two will be safe in the long term, 2) I need a bigger tank for a mystery, and 3) the 3rd combo might work.

Thanks in advance!

1) Ocellaris clownfish even a pair is fine

option 3c would work, option 3b is marginally ok but I do not recommend option 3a . My personal taste for 3 would be a pygmy wrasse instead such as this one.

I'm guessing that the answer is going to be 1) sixlines are too aggressive to say that the other two will be safe in the long term, 2) I need a bigger tank for a mystery, and 3) the 3rd combo might work.
