Im fairly new to the SW world have had FW tanks for as far back as I can remember. A neighbor of mines being deployed and gave me his just cycled 125 g tank with a 50 gal sump. 60lbs sand and 50lbs lr.
I have:
2x koralia evo 1400
1 eheim classic 2217
still confused on exactly what lighting to get

But I want these fish (ive done a little research)
B&W Perc Pair (still havent figured out which anemone yet since the carpet stings)
heniochus butterflyfish-1
Panda Clown Gobies-2
Neon Gobies-2 (a pair of either one or the other)
Kole Yellow Eye (maybe a little later?)
Bristletooth Tang(or this one one or the other)
Pink Streaked Wrasse (just one)

Not wanting to add all at once just a couple here and there. Also looking to add a nice cleaner pack for everything but want snails only not looking for any crabs or shrimp that could damage my fish.
All help is much appreciated

So I obtained the kole yellow eye from work...Hes in QT right now...Should I add him in first or maybe go pick up the smaller fish and put them in before I add any semi or possibly aggressive fish?

Also have rethought the gobies in exchange for royal gamma basslets?

Just obtained my lighting got 2x Maxspect R420R 16k
Would those lights hold up well for me to throw some softies in?:fun5:

Quarantine should be a minimum of 4 weeks, and I would finish one before embarking on additions. A royal gramma is excellent, but two may or may not work in a 125 gallon tank. As this thread is about marine fish compatibility, questions about corals would be best placed in the appropriate forum.

First I just want to say, I think this this thread is a great idea. Second I would say those two tangs might not get along too well, I'd choose your second from another family. They eat the same food, and the Kole is likely to be aggressive towards that. Can somebody second that?

Currently have a 36 bowfront, looking to upgrade to a 40B w/ 40B sump.
Have a Clown, Pajama Cardinal, and a Green Mandarin.

Pajama and Clown are going away soon as I find a home for them. Pajama deserves some buddies, and the clown is starting to pick on the mandarin (go figure)

What I would like to stock:

2x B&W Clowns
1x Mandarin
1x Yasha/Pistol shrimp combo
3x Benggai (If possible, GF's pick at the moment)
1x Firefish or Springeri Dottyback (if possible)

To be honest I'm not thrilled with the cardinals. They're cool and all, but mainly they would be in the tank to appease the gf. But I feel that even a 40B is gonna be too small for the 3 cardinals alone.

So I just need some confirmation of what can work, and what can't.

What I would like to stock:

2x B&W Clowns if one clown is aggressive, two will be worse
1x Mandarin difficult to survive long term in small tanks
1x Yasha/Pistol shrimp combo
3x Benggai (If possible, GF's pick at the moment) only a male plus female pair will work, more than that will be reduced
1x Firefish or Springeri Dottyback (if possible) firefish would work but are jumpers and very shy, dottybacks are aggressive

To be honest I'm not thrilled with the cardinals. They're cool and all, but mainly they would be in the tank to appease the gf.

GF/Wives are very important. If they can be kept happy, you will be much happier in the long run

But I feel that even a 40B is gonna be too small for the 3 cardinals alone. Two would work i a 40

Yeah, I thought the same thing about Mandarins. But, my buddy had this tank running for 2yrs before me, and the mandarin was as fat and happy as could be. The clown Picking on him though worries me. So I thought I'd take the clown out, for 2 young b&w clowns, which is what I really want. Figured if they were young when introduced, they wouldn't end up picking on the mandarin.

Not sure how I would be able to get a young male and female banggai. The gf wants them from when they're itty bitty to watch them grow.

I thought the firefish or Springeri would be cool to add a nice change of color.

Also, this seems to be a lot of fish even to me. But, the yasha/pistol combo is an absolute must have for me.

You can't. First be aware your existing cardinals may eat "itty bitty" baby cardinals. To get a pair, get three, tank bred and raised, and hope. One will be excluded and killed if you are lucky enough to get a pair, otherwise, only one will survive.

Also, this seems to be a lot of fish even to me. But, the yasha/pistol combo is an absolute must have for me.

The biggest problem is that the clowns once sexually mature, will want to control that sized tank and will be very aggressive.

more than one goby?

more than one goby?

i have a ywg now, can i add another type of goby to my tank? if i can, what woyld you recommend? thanks

I've stumbled across an opportunity to add a purple tang to my tank for a fantastic price. I think I may have some compatibility issues though, so wanted to check in and get your opinion before potentially making a mistake. Everyone in my tank is currently very peaceful and I'd like to keep it that way, and the info from the tang sticky says the purple can be troublesome.

Tank: 125 gal (5 foot) mixed reef

Stock (from most recent to older resident): 1 kole tang, 1 yellow foxface, 1 flame angel, 1 blue-green chromis, 2 oscellaris clowns

Want-to-add over next 4-6 months: 2 banggai cardinals, 2-4 peaceful flasher/fairy wrasses

Thanks as always!

125 gallon tank allready established

125 gallon tank allready established

Hi, i am getting a 125 gallon tank allready established from my LFS for december arrival
(48x30x18)

allready established with rock and corals.. just no fish.. has all the equipment of the sump and skimmer and everything.. lights to house all types of corals since all types are in there now and everyone who walks into the store say how beautiful his display tank is. and then he just says its all sold.. lol

this is my wish list (not in this order)

small fish:
2 clown fish
1 mystery wrasse
2 pair manderine (allready established with the food one lives in the tank now)
-not sure what else-

medium fish:
marine betta (i heard they are a medium because they just sit and look pretty?)
CCB

Large fish:
powder brown tang (my favorite looking tang...)
rabbit fish (the bright coloured striped one with the dots on the face)
purple tang
yellow eye kole tang

any suggestions??

for cleaner group, getting some shrimp and starfish, and snails.. as much as i will need for my tank...

thankyou!

small fish:
2 clown fish
1 mystery wrasse potentially aggressive towards other wrasse and shrimp
2 pair manderine (allready established with the food one lives in the tank now)
-not sure what else-

medium fish:
marine betta (i heard they are a medium because they just sit and look pretty?) however, they eat fish as a predator
CCB you mean a copper banded butterfly? Difficult fish for a new to the hobby and best if Australian.

Large fish:
powder brown tang (my favorite looking tang...)
rabbit fish (the bright coloured striped one with the dots on the face)
purple tang
yellow eye kole tang

your tank will have difficulty with three tangs especially since the purple can be more aggressive

any suggestions??

see comment about mystery wrasse and shrimp

thankyou!

Fish in no particular order

Blue/green chromis 2 or 3
true percula clownfish 2 or 3
flame angel 1
regal (blue)tang 1
yellow tang 1 or 2
cardinal 2
flame hawkfish 1
electric blue hermit crab 2 or 3
arrow crab 1-2
brittle sea star

and probably some turbo snails

after a while once i get things going good i want to start getting some corals soft and hard.

thanks everybody for your input and feedback.

Blue/green chromis 2 or 3 At the moment there seems to be a problem getting in healthy chromis, but in any case, a group will end up being one or two
true percula clownfish 2 or 3 you can only have two clownfish, introduce 2 very small ones
flame angel 1
regal (blue)tang 1 requires a much larger tank
yellow tang 1 or 2 you can only have one but a larger tank is required
cardinal 2
flame hawkfish 1 precludes shrimp
electric blue hermit crab 2 or 3
arrow crab 1-2 will take fish, only one per tank
brittle sea star

and probably some turbo snails hermit crabs will kill snails

after a while once i get things going good i want to start getting some corals soft and hard. dwarf angels are not reef safe

thanks everybody for your input and feedback.
