Steve,
I have a clown fish question for you. All though I am about 3 months from getting a pair of small clown fish, I have been researching clown fish alot along with what type of anemone they will host with. I am pretty sure that I'm going to get a bubble tip anemone per they are the hardest from what I have read and for my lighting setup. Also from what I have been reading, BTA's are not from the same region as Ocellaris clowns and True Percula clowns and they may not host together for this reason. But, Maroon clowns will and are form the same region as BTA's. But, also from what I'm reading, you should only have one Maroon clown per tank.

So my question for you is, can I buy a small pair (1.5 to 2 inch) of Gold Stripe Maroon Clowns and have them in the same DT?

or

Should I just buy a small pair of Ocellaris clowns and hope for the best with them hosting with the BTA?

Thanks in advance Steve. I look forward to reading your reply.

GSM clownfish, once paired, will take over about 50 gallons of tank space. They are really aggressive but will associated with a BTA (the BTA hosts, the clownfish associate Best reference on Clownfish is Clownfish by Joyce Wilkersen

100gallon display tank; 60 gallon sump with refugium; ~100lbs live rock on DT and 40lbs on sump; 2-3 inch sandbed; SROXP2000 protein skimmer; 2-MP40s; BRS GFO and carbon reactor

Fish list:
1) Pair of black and white clownfish (currently in QT)
2) Neon goby (currently in QT)
3) Midas Blenny (currently in QT- he's about 4")
4) Tailspot blenny (Is he ok with the Midas Blenny?)
5) One or pair of other gobies (e.g., goldhead sleeper goby)
6) Trio of hawaiian flame wrasses
7) Purple tang

Thank you for your help! Happy Thanksgiving :)

5) One or pair of other gobies (e.g., goldhead sleeper goby) golden headed sleeper gobies will deplete your sand bed, then eventually starve to death; the other problem with these fish is sand storms which land on corals
6) Trio of hawaiian flame wrasses be sure the females are of different sizes; best way to accomplish this is with a trio of three females, one of which will transition to male. Males tend to ship poorly
7) Purple tang

Hi. I'm new to the hobby and i'm planning to have my first reef tank in a few months/year.
I'm doing a massive work of research to be sure i have all the informations i need to make the good choices. I know patience is very important, that's why i'm planning this as a long term project.

I plan to have a tank that is about 220 gallons. I've done some researches and here is the list of fishes i'd like to have in the tank.

Blue/green reef Chromis
Clownfish
Naso Tang
Midas Blenny
foxface lo
firefish (purple)
court jester goby
clown goby yellow
bellus angelfish
Common Cleaner Wrasse
Exquisite Fairy Wrasse
Yellow banded Possum wrasse
White banded Possum wrasse
Green mandarin

Are all these fishes compatibles with each other? With corals? With crustaceans?

If all the fishes are adult size, is the tank overcrowded? Too empty?

I heard you can't have more than 1 tang in a tank, is that corect?

Is there any easy and very interesting fishes i SHOULD consider?

Can I add more more than 1 specimen for any of these species?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Another question: Does any of these fishes have an history of jumping over an open top tank?

Thanks again!

My up to date tank is
75g display with 40g sump
75lbs live rock
3 blue green chromis
2 blue streak cardinals
2 false Percs
1 CBB
1 Chocolate tang
1 dispar anthias
1 blood shrimp
Sps ULNS
Lots of flow!

Thank you again for the info! I will not be purchasing another large grazer.....I realize you do not make suggestions but perhaps there is a smaller grazer you would advise? My goal is to add a couple more fish.....my eyes have been on a goby of some sort (maybe a grazer), royal gramma, and my last addition to the tank I plan on making a leopard wrasse....I just thought I would mention the wrasse, goby, and royal gramma so you know where I am going.....or would like to go......so can you advise on a small grazer that would work with my setup even in the future?
I really do not make recommendations for a variety of reasons but would happy to reconsider any revised stocking list

Ok fair enough.....how about the royal gramma and lastly a leopard wrasse??
I am still considering a goby but not sure which one and would any get along well with the royal gramma?

with your current plan and tank size, the most I would add is a single small fish that is behaviorally compatible

a leopard wrasse requires peaceful tank mates, and no competition for copepods (in your sized tank) and a Copper banded butterfly would eat copepods

I am still considering a goby but not sure which one and would any get along well with the royal gramma?

the goby and royal gramma should not be a problem

Thank you once again.....one last question for you Steve....would any wrasse be a possibility for my tank as the last addition? I only chose a leopard wrasse because they are peaceful and my tank is currently a very peaceful sps reef.

I personally love any of the three species of pygmy wrasse. Flasher wrasses are easily doable but they are prolific jumpers so 1/4 inch mesh would be essential.

Ok, this is good to hear because a favorite of mine is what I call the cryptic six line wrasse.....which I believe is also known as the pink streaked Pygmy wrasse.....my LFS has had these on occasion but sells very quick! I'm sure he will get more.....

Yes, these are excellent reef fish.

hi,
i'm just after some advice. i have a 30g tank, all parameters ok, current stock:
fireball angel
blue/green chromis
firefish
silver belly wrasse (Halichoeres leucoxanthus?).

i'm think about 1 more fish and was wondering about compatibility for one of the following
- cardinal (red spot)
- blenny (starry, or something similar)
- watchman goby

The watchman goby (and presumably pistol shrimp) would be my first choice with the blenny being second choice

thanks Steve,.. I have tried to trap the 6line for 5 days and it did not go near the trap. If I introduce a bigger pair of wrasses at the same time, could it keep the 6line from picking on them?

I am upgrading my 2ft nano to a 6 x 2.5 x 2 220gallons.
Fish that will be moving over to the new tank are
Pair of percs
Tiger blenny
Yellow clown goby
Carpenters wrasse

The fish I want to add over a year or so are
Blue throat trigger (tank big enough for a pair?)
Blue tang
Flame hawkfish
Foxface one spot
Mandarin (once tank matures)

I don't think there are any problems with that list? Which order should I add the fish?
Thanks!
