thanks Steve,.. I have tried to trap the 6line for 5 days and it did not go near the trap. If I introduce a bigger pair of wrasses at the same time, could it keep the 6line from picking on them?

unfortunately, no. Sixlines and fairy flasher wrasses will be a problem.

I am upgrading my 2ft nano to a 6 x 2.5 x 2 220gallons.
Fish that will be moving over to the new tank are
Pair of percs
Tiger blenny
Yellow clown goby
Carpenters wrasse

The fish I want to add over a year or so are
Blue throat trigger (tank big enough for a pair?)
Blue tang
Flame hawkfish
Foxface one spot
Mandarin (once tank matures)

I don't think there are any problems with that list? Which order should I add the fish?
Thanks!

most aggressive always last

I missed this. If you have a six foot tank, if you mean blue tang as a Hepatus tang it is going to look crowded in a six foot tank.

Looking for suggestions on some fish that i'm wanting to add to my 125. I won't be adding anything to my tank till after Christmas so i'm just looking for suggestions.

Equipment- asm g3 skimmer, 8x54w T5's, 120lbs sand, 150lbs lr, 40g long sump w/ fuge and lr rubble

Inverts: (no particular order)
Peppermint shrimp
Coral banded shrimp
Pistol shrimp
Pom Pom crab
Longspine Urchin
Some kind of starfish (maybe 2)
Various snails for CUC (maybe 30 altogether)

Fish: (In no particular order)
Flame Angel
Coral Beauty or Rusty Angel (possible Potters Angel)
Sailfin/Algae Blenny
Copperband Butterfly
Pajama Cardinal (pair)
Royal Gamma (pair)
Blue Chromis (at least a pair)
Ocellaris Clownfish (possible pair, depends on wife)
Mandarin (in atleast 6 mos)
Scooter Blenny
Firefish (pair)
Foxface
Watchman Goby (goes with the pistol shrimp)
Yellow Tang
Six Line Wrasse
Harlequin Tusk (would love to have but it would probably not be a good option)

I know that's a lot of options but i'm looking for some kind of feedback. I want to keep some corals so reef-safe is a plus but I know some fish (pygmy angels) are hit and miss and those I can live with. Thanks for any help and hopefully i'm not asking too much.

Inverts: (no particular order)
Peppermint shrimp
Coral banded shrimp can take fish
Pistol shrimp
Pom Pom crab
Longspine Urchin
Some kind of starfish (maybe 2) will starve to death eventually
Various snails for CUC (maybe 30 altogether)

Fish: (In no particular order)
Flame Angel
Coral Beauty or Rusty Angel (possible Potters Angel) potters is more difficult
Sailfin/Algae Blenny
Copperband Butterfly difficult; australian ones have best chance of survival
Pajama Cardinal (pair)
Royal Gamma (pair)
Blue Chromis (at least a pair) will winnow down to one or at most two; however recently chromis have been coming in unhealthy
Ocellaris Clownfish (possible pair, depends on wife) depending on species, can be aggressive to super aggressive
Mandarin (in atleast 6 mos)
Scooter Blenny
Firefish (pair) only a male + female
Foxface
Watchman Goby (goes with the pistol shrimp)
Yellow Tang aggressive, will limit fish options going forward
Six Line Wrasse aggressive, will limit fish options going forward
Harlequin Tusk (would love to have but it would probably not be a good option) pretty but not a good option

overall, fish load is too high even for this tank

pygmy angels are not reef safe; especially with meaty LPS, zoanthids, and similar

I have a 125g with a mixed reef plan. The tank has been cycled (I am on my second week of 0 Amonia, 0 Nitrate, 0 Nitrite, so I plan to get my first fish for stocking this week (they will be put into a 20g QT for 4 weeks).

My stock plan is as follows:

First in: 3 Blue/Green Chromis
1 Royal Gramma
2nd in: 1 Pygmy Wrasse
1 Midas Blenny
1 Diamond Wathman Goby
1 McCosker's Flasher Wrasse
3rd in: 1 Starry Blenny
1 Red Mandarin
1 Firefish, Purple
1 Bartlett's Anthias
4th in: 2 Ocellaris Clwnfish
Last in: 1 Powder Brown Tang
1 Yellow Tang

My plan is to introduce the fish from the QT and then buy the next guys to go into QT, so I will be adding about once per month.

Please let me know any thoughts on this stocking list as well as the order I plan to introduce them.

Thanks!

Hi, my 40g only have starry blenny and sixline wrasse and doing great and of course the blenny is the boss. Can I for now add a yellow watchman goby since the blenny hops on top of the rock and goby stays at the bottom? thanks

Yes, no problem. The sixline will limit choices going forward.

1 Royal Gramma
2nd in: 1 Pygmy Wrasse
1 Midas Blenny
1 Diamond Wathman Goby
1 McCosker's Flasher Wrasse a propensity for jumping you will need mesh with 1/4 inch holes
3rd in: 1 Starry Blenny
1 Red Mandarin tank should be 9 months old before addition of this fish
1 Firefish, Purple a propensity for jumping you will need mesh with 1/4 inch holes
1 Bartlett's Anthias
4th in: 2 Ocellaris Clwnfish
Last in: 1 Powder Brown Tang
1 Yellow Tang I would not put two tangs in this sized tank; moreover the yellow will limit additions going forward

Overall, that number of fish will make your tank look crowded.

Steve, Thanks for the quick reply.

If I were to remove the Yellow Tang and the Red Mandarin, would the tank still be over-crowded? My goal is for color to go along with the coral that I will add. However, I definitely do not want over-population that will lead to other issues.

Thanks!

155 gallon tank 72x24x21, reef setup with 35g refugium. looking at the following:

In right now:
1x Yellow Watchman Goby
2x Ocellaris (juveniles)

Next:
1x Horseface Blenny
1x Tanaka Pygmy Wrasse
2x Banggai Cardinal (tank-bred)
3x McCosker's Flasher Wrasse (1M, 2F)

Long-term:
1xKole Tang
1xBlue Tang
1xCoral Beauty or Flame Angel

1+ year:
1x Green Mandarin
1x Copperband Butterfly

If this load is too high, I can drop the Kole Tang or Banggai's.

remove the yellow tang and you should be fine. The mandarin issue is to wait until the tank is sufficient mature to sustain adequate copepods.

Thanks again. Any recommendation on a replacement for the Blue/Green Chromis? I was planning on stocking them first.

Also, I will look at the mandarin after about a year to ensure the tank is mature enough.

This has been a big help. Thanks!

Getting advice for my fathers 55g FOWLR tank. His current stock:

2 ocellaris clowns
Yellow Watchman Goby
Cherub Angel

Wants to add:
Bicolor blenny
Royal Gramma
Springeri Damsel
Christmas Wrasse.

Top of the tank is screened in. Any issues with his planned stock?

As those who follow this thread know, I do not do recommendations for a variety of reasons. I will be happy to reexamine any stocking list for compatibility, however.

Apologize, didn't realize that was off limits.

Do the Black Axil Chromis have the same issue as the Blue/Green Chromis right now with their health?

Also, there are no royal gramma's available. What about a Blue Gudgeon Goby as a replacement for the royal gramma?

Thanks!

thanks, gotta find that's big enough

I have a question about my own tank, a 75g with LPS and softies only.
Current stock:
2 BW Ocellaris
2 engineer gobies
Coral Beauty Angel
Midas Blenny

I would like to add a trio of flasher or fairy wrasses. I had thought about Mcoskers, but finding females has been tough. I may get a few juvenile Longfin fairy wrasses instead. That would be an okay sub, correct?

I have been researching the melanarus wrasse and would like to get one if it will be compatible with the fairy wrasse. Will they be compatible?

Last addition would be a Kole Tang.

Oh, it is not off limits. However, for sure our taste will differ and perhaps our budget, but the primary reason is that I want you to develop research skills. Various marine fish vendors have websites and they normally have useful descriptions of behaviors, tank size, feeding, etc. However, remember that they sell fish and hence there is somewhat ofr an inherent conflict of interests.

Do the Black Axil Chromis have the same issue as the Blue/Green Chromis right now with their health?

No, there is no reported issues with them

Also, there are no royal gramma's available. What about a Blue Gudgeon Goby as a replacement for the royal gramma?

sure, but very different behavioral pattern.

Thanks!
