Thank You for your help.

I'm out of my cycle, did my first 25 gallon water change, set up my 10 gal quarantine tank - so I think I'm ready for a stocking list. I have Prazipro, Cupramine and Maracyn Plus on hand for the quarantine. Following these procedures:

Mind you - I was thinking of buying each line item listed every 6-8 weeks to allow quarantine and not overcrowding the 10 gallon

Water param:
pH fluctuates between 8.1 and 8.2, temp: 78, salinity 1.026
Before the water change:
nitrates 0 PPM, PO4 50 PPB, kH was low at 5.1 (hence the water change), Ca 400 PPM, Mg 1140 PPM.

Current Display - 4x2x2 foot w/ 2x mp40 (reef crest 90%), 80 pounds Pukani, 4" sugar sized sand bed, 2x Pacific Sun Triton LEDs:

  • Sand bed with beneficial infuana (bristle and spaghetti worms, pods, sandbed clams, microbrittle star fish - first priority is to not introduce things to disrupt the functioning of the sand bed or decimate the infauna
5 microhermits (with the black and white legs)
    6 Nerite Snails
    6 Strombus Snails
    6 Mexican Turbo snails
    1 Stomatella Snail

Current sump: 4x2x16" (95 gallon) in three compartments, Reef Octopus xs225 diablo skimmer, fuge with Chaeto and red tang heaven algae (IPSF's name for it), Eheim 1262 return

So this is my wishlist for stocking (and in this order - with each line item taking 6-8 weeks of quarantine) - so yes - almost two years to complete my wish list:

  • 2 Clownfish (black and white or normal... haven't decided yet)
    Cherub Anglefish
    5 threadfin cardinals
5 blue/green chromis chromis have been coming in less than healthy recently but even if they were healthy, they will winnow down their number until there is at most two left, usually only one
    1 foxface tang
    1 flamefin tang
1 yellow tang This is the most aggressive of the grazers, so should be added last.

Thoughts?

except as noted, all should be fine

Thank You for your help.

Thanks for the ideas. The LFS told me the same about the chromis getting whittled down.

The LFS also modified my list:
5 Chromis, 2 Bangaii Cardinal (they said the threadfins are having the same sort of problem you mention of the chromis - not surviving shipping).
2 Clowns ,Cherub Anglefish, Foxface Tang
Flamefin tang and Yellow Tang

While the results are similar, in the case of the chromis it is not a shipping problem; at this point the chromis health issue is not related to shipping but we cannot determine what exactly the issue is, perhaps uronema. Various cardinals do have shipping issues, again, not totally determined. However if they survive the initial shipping issues, they seem to be fairly stable although they will not shoal as expected. Bangaii cardinals that are tank raised seem to do fine at least if they are two of different sexes; of course two of the same sex will not work.

Flamefin tang and Yellow Tang

If you keep the food particles in the water, manually or naturally, the chromis will keep their numbers.

This thread is not a discussion thread and is only answered by Reef Central Staff. While we greatly appreciate sponsorship on Reef Central, the information provided in this case is not correct. Virtually all aquarists who try to keep groups of chromis, end up with diminished numbers, usually only one or at most two. In recent times chromis brought in have turned up with uronema like symptoms unrelated to any aggregation or aggression issues. There are some fish, such as certain cardinals, that seem to have shipping related issues, chromis are not included in this. Chromis by the nature of confinement, even in very large tanks have their numbers diminish because of the nature of the relationship in confined tanks. The only exception we have found is with very high flow tanks.

Hi steve been awhile. I saw a Bartail Fusiier (Pterocaesio Tile) at the LFS today a really nice fish. However I can find very little info on him. Do you have any experience or insight on this guy. He would be going in a standard 180. Tankmates pair of O clowns, royal gramma, pair of green chromis, purple fire fish, chalk bass, red flasher wrasse, pajama cardinal and a hi fin banded goby. I was able to leave a deposit until I could get some info. The LFS has limited experience on him. As always thanks for any help.

Thank You for your help. I currently have a mated pair of Percula Clowns that will be moved out. Would I be able to add the 1st 3 fish all at once after quarantine? If not, what would you recommend as far as what order they should be placed in the tank?

Purple Firefish
Royal Gramma
Longnose Hawk

Candy Basslet (added last?)

Thanks again.

A very deep water fish that grows to little over a foot. Probably not a great fish for your tank.

I would add them in the order you have them. Note that a Royal Gramma is somewhat related to the candy basslet so that may be an issue.

Unfortunately you have two aggressive fish, one of which can be super aggressive. It will be difficult adding another fish to that tank.

Wondering if I could add a Foxface lo to my 90 DT?

Current fish

2 tomato clowns
2 blue green chromis
1 purple dotty back

Thanks in advance.

Although you have three aggressive fish, a foxface lo will not occupy the same ecological niche and the three aggressive existing fish should not interact with it. Be sure to supplement feeding with Nori or equivalent.

Have 75g reef tank with the following in it now

2 Ocellaris Clownfish
1 Scissortail Dartfish
1 Yellow tang (he is small right now and I know he will outgrow the tank. I bought him before doing much research and know he will have to come out at some point).

I am thinking of the following additions

Midas Blenny
MCCoskers Flasher Wrasse
Orangespot Diamond Goby
Foxface (small)

I have about 75lbs live rock, sand bed, using a sump with skimmer and have several coral frags just starting.

What issues do you see with my list?

Otherwise, the list is fine

72 gal stocking

72 gal stocking

I am brand new (no rock/water in tank yet) i purchased a used 72 gal bowfront with canopy. Its got a build in overflow with a 20gal sump. Plan on using part of sump for small fuge (if recommended) i have a bubble magus ps rated for 130gal. I hope to move up to a bigger tank in a few years if i do well with this. I think I would like this eventually to be reef but plan on starting out with live rock.

I want these fish in this order (any advice welcomed)
Green Reef Chromis*(Chromis viridis)
Ignitus Anthias*(Pseudanthias ignitus) one male two
females (or just one male if ok alone) really like these and have read up on them
Small Yellow Tang - Hawaii*(Zebrasoma flavescens
Maroon Clownfish - Tank-Bred*(Premnas biaculeatus)

I would like a starfish as well.
Any advice on clean up crew?
