Sleeper Banded Goby (Amblygobius phalaena) does this species pair with a shrimp? reading conflicting information. I was thinking this would be a better option than the mandarin. Should i wait awhile and let the microfauna in my sand bed get more established if i go this route?

this fish would not do well in a smallish tank and does not form a commensal relationship with alpheus randall shrimp. A wheelers goby would be fine.

Also what order should I add the clowns and angel and sleeper goby(if i go sleeper over a wheelers goby/tiger pistol combo)? I am going to get juvi clowns so they will hopefully pair up. I am just afraid once they pair up i wont be able to add anything else to the tank.

clownfish mature over months so a bonded pair will not instantly result.

Hi Steve!
Thank you for your previous help, I have added a sailfin blenny who is doing very well.
So I would like to ask about my next panned addition.

56 g FOWLR
Toby Puffer will nip fish
Ocellaris Clown
Coral Beauty
Sailfin Blenny

would like to add
Flasher Wrasse
Court Jester Goby may need a larger tank because of feeding issues. A flasher wrasse requires a tightly covered tank (not egg crate).

Thanks!

I have a fitted glass canopy top, only a very small gap in the back where the HOB filters flow back in. Would that be sufficient?
And what feeding issues with the court jester goby?

Thanks again!

Ideally cover it with 1/4 inch mesh, these fish are escape artists

you need a mature tank with microalgae, copepods, etc. Feeding at least a couple of times per day with meaty food is preferred.

Thanks again!

Ok thank you so much!
I have pretty good algae growth right now but ill make sure to maintain it and I will start adding pods now. I already feed twice, sometimes three times daily.
Ill see if I can modify the plastic strip that came with the tank lid to fit tighter.

Again, thank you so much!

Hi all,
I have a 180g mixed reef, I have two yellow eye kole tangs, scopus tang, fox face and a few small fish like clowns and firefish. I am thinking it would be cool to get a powder blue tang if it is possible?

Any thoughts if these guys would get a long? I would like to get another tang if I can.

Thanks in advance.

Unpredictable with certainty, but five grazers in a six foot tang is pushing the envelope. It may work in the short term and not in the longer term as the fish mature and see their territory "shrink".

Seahorse absolutely not with an anemone but in any case seahorses should not be mixed with the other fish you have planned
featherduster

Green Mandarin Fuge to be added in 3 months or so this is not a good sized tank for a mandarin unless you have a 20 gallon refugium from the beginning and the mandarin is added in six months

with delicate fish such as seahorses and mandarins (which compete for food so a larger tank is desirable), I suggest you do a whole lot more research

I have a 60g aquarium with two damsels at this time or a cycle, about 29lbs of live rock and 20lbs of dry rock. I'm new to this whole salt water thing and right now I just have a HOB filter and heater. My next purchase will be a protein skimmer and I'm working on a lid that will have 4 t5 HO bulbs two 10000ks and two blue bulbs. With room to upgrade to 6 bulbs if needed. My overall goal is to have a little bit of coral and mainly fish.

I am just curious if my tank can handle the fish I'm wanting, and which order to get them.
Occ clowns (2)
Cleaner shrimp (1) unless you suggest more?
A hippo tang (1)
And a flame angel (1)

Well, first of all, you should not be cycling a tank with fish, that is very old, very poor practice. In any case you will need to remove them.

Occ clowns (2) yes
Cleaner shrimp (1) unless you suggest more? yes
A hippo tang (1) no. Reef Central's recommended tank size is 240 gallons, 8 feet long
And a flame angel (1) yes but not reef safe for some corals

I didn't initially intend to cycle with fish, that's just what the pet shop told me I should do. So I bought them, I also kinda figured on the hippo tang. Hat are a few more fish that I could fit that would work on that setup? I want flashy bright fish.

Then their advice going forward should be scrutinized carefully since it was very poor and self-serving. I would insist they provide store credit for them when you remove them and return them. A pinch of food periodically will cycle a tank with live rock.

While I do not provide recommendations for a variety of reasons, I am always happy to reanalyze any stocking list you provide for compatibility.

2 firefish only if a male plus female for long term success
1 Blue throat trigger. aggressive, eats small fish, do you really want a 9inch fish in your sized tank?

I would also like a small group of Carberryi
Anthias but I don't know how many is recommended. require feeding multiple times per day for long term success

Best Regards and thank you

I have a 75 gallon, no sump, 65ish lbs rock, 100 lbs sand eventual soft coral reef tank.
I seem to have:
a ton of assorted snails,
4 of which are large turbos,
3 blue legged hermit crabs,
3 emerald crabs,
2 spotted cardinals,
a sea hare,
pineapple sponges,
a gazillion bristle worms
and a bunch of tiny brittle stars.

I am considering:
a blue turban urchin,
an arrow crab,
bubble tip anemone,
clown (1 or a mated pair),
green chromis (2-3)
firefish
gamma basslet
pulsing xenia
mushrooms and polyps

I am amused by the flame hawkfish, but am unsure as to how reed safe it is, and if it would get along with the other creatures hanging on the bottom.

I have seen conflicting reports on the arrow crab behavior, but I would like it to control the bristle worm population.

The urchin I hope will help with some of the coraline alge on the glass.

I wouldn't mind more fish, but I have no idea what I would choose.

I had heard that about the arrow, which had me a bit conflicted - should keeping it well fed negate some of that risk, or will the size of the fish I want do the same, or is it simply down to the personality of that crab?

Is there something else less of a risk to the fish that might help control the bristle worm population?

To clarify, since I don't plan on ornamental shrimp the hawkfish should be fine?

I DO plan on setting up a small tank of shrimp for food... I am currently feeding frozen.
