This is a total list of all fish I would consider for my 30 gallon tank.

2 x Ocellaris Clownfish, Tank Bred (Amphiprion ocellaris)
1 x Yellow Prawn Goby (Cryptocentrus cinctus)
1 x Bicolor Dottyback (Pictichromis paccagnellae) very aggressive, especially in a small tank
1 x Cardinalfish (Apongonidae)
1 x Azure Damselfish (Chrysiptera hemicyanea) aggressive, especially in a small tank
1 x Cleaner shrimp (undecided)

The tank has already been cycled and the CUC is in place. The Ocellaris Clownfish would be first. The rest added appropriately.

Do you see any compatability issues? I am leaning towards 5 fish and one shrimp. Thanks.

Updated list

Updated list

A new update of my list of fish.... Want to know if this is too many fish or is it fine. They all are small fish which ones would be compatible and which ones may not be. I have a 40 gallon breeder with 40 lbs of live rock. I have a brittle star which came as a hitchhiker on my live rock. But anyways here is what I'd like to add....

1 Royal Gramma
1 firefish goby
1 Horned Blenny
1 Panda Goby
2 Black and white Ocellaris Clownfish
1 Yellowtail Damsel (Maybe maybe not, hubby likes this fish.)
1 Bumble bee Snail
1 Purple Short Spine Pincushion Urchin
and maybe a Lettuce sea slug or a pom pom crab.

Plan to keep the brittle star.

In a 40 gallon tank, this would work. Most problematical is the damsel.

Hi! I'm working on finalizing my fish list for a new 90 gallon reef that we're going to be setting up shortly! Please let me know what you think? In order of addition to the tank:

Pink Spotted Goby
Clown Goby
Starry Blenny
Royal Gramma - how aggressive are these? I have heard they can be shy, or terrorists :)
Yellowfin Flasher Wrasse
McCosker's Flasher Wrasse
Kole Tang

Some things I'm on the fence about, I would like to go with maybe one or two of these options as well as the above list.....
*some type of a pair of clowns - occ, perc, or maybe orange skunk?
*some type of dwarf angelfish - golden? flame? rusty? are there any that are supposedly more "reef safe"? i guess these are probably a roll of the dice
*a group of chromis - maybe 3-5? i know they don't "school" but i like the movement and the splash of blue color, also i know they may kill eachother off but i really would like to try it. undecided.

75gal Reef Fish List

75gal Reef Fish List

Hi guys/gals... I'm putting together a list for my 75 gal reef tank (w/ 100lbs live rock, 20gal sump and PSK-150 Skimmer) and I would appreciate any input regarding the number/compatability/order of the fish I like.

The fish I'm most interested in are the following:

Ocellaris Clown (Pair)
Firefish
Six Line Wrasse
Sunburst Anthias
Green Clown Goby
Royal Gamma
Blue Chromis
a small blenny of some sort
Flame Angel
Kole Tang

I realize I might not be able to have them all and some do better w/ a partner or group so any input would be greatly appreciated.

Skunk clowns are the most aggressive of the three once sexually mature
*some type of dwarf angelfish - golden? flame? rusty? are there any that are supposedly more "reef safe"? i guess these are probably a roll of the dice It is a roll of the dice; most risk is associated with meaty LPS coral
*a group of chromis - maybe 3-5? i know they don't "school" but i like the movement and the splash of blue color, also i know they may kill eachother off but i really would like to try it. undecided.
Your choice, obviously, I always point out the downside; also they have been coming in less than healthy with uronema symptoms

Hi guys/gals...

This thread is only answered by Reef Central Staff, in this case, me.

fine, except as noted

Thanks Snorvich!!! are there any (such as the firefish or anthias) that i should double/triple on? I know some will shoal but I don't wan't to add too many fish)

Firefish can ONLY be doubled up if you have a bonded male plus female pair. Anthias, because of the social nature of harems, can be grouped but need a larger tank.

Dry 55 gal with 20 gal fuge. Trying to decide on my eventual livestock so I can aquascape with them in mind.

Tuxedo urchin
Pair of clowns (false percs)
Pair of black and white chromis
Prawn goby & pistol shrimp
Yellow and/or(?) green clown goby

I want to have mostly LPS with a couple SPS corals. Crabless CUC (any hitchhiker crabs can live in the fuge unless I know they are reef/tankmate safe).

Any suggestions for other attractive, peaceful, personable fish? I am looking for hardier fish since I am new to saltwater.

Edit:

The other way I've thought of going is waiting longer and getting a dwarf lion. My boyfriend would love me to go this route. Are there any safe tankmates for a dwarf lion? I know that they can and will eat anything that fits into their mouths, but I have read many accounts of even volitans lions living peacefully with appropriately sized tankmates.

Thank you for your insight! :)

No. That is one of the reasons I do not provide commentary/analysis on aggressive fish tanks.

No. That is one of the reasons I do not provide commentary/analysis on aggressive fish tanks.

Okay, good to know. I will stick with my original plan, then, or do a separate species only tank if I want a lion down the road. :D Thank you!

Hi I am upgrading from an established 29 gal to a 40 breeder with 20l sump. My current livestock includes 2 snowflake clowns, a long nosed hawkfish, and a yellow watchman goby.

I am interested in adding another fish. Preferably an active swimmer. I was thinking a dwarf angel. Either a flame or coral beauty. Would this fish be fine with my current livestock?

Yes, no problem. Flame angels have different color morphs, so investigate to see which is most pleasing.

Kole tang
Yellow tang
Purple tang I would not mix two zebrasoma tangs (yellow/purple); pick one or the other
2x clownfish species??
Candy basslet
Mandarin fish mandarins are dragonets; so make SURE they are of different sex
Red dragonet
Possum wrasse
Exquisite fairy wrasse
Bartlett anthias x5
Banggai cardinal x2
Flame wrasse
Rhomboid wrasse
Neon goby. short lived
Orchid dottyback I would not mix any dottybacks with fairy/flasher wrasses

Hi, I have a 65 gallon (36x21x20) with 65 lbs live rock, 30 gallon sump, Reef Octopus DC1 skimmer, small fuge in the sump (it's a Precision Marine R30 sump), 60 lbs (about 1.5") of Reeflake substrate (3.5mm), two Kessil A360W lights, Eheim 1260 return pump (throttled back quite a bit), and two Vortech MP10ESw pumps. It's a new tank that's cycling and I'm just in the planning stages for fish. Plan to keep corals but not sure what kind yet. It does not have a cover and I prefer not to put one on it. So, no jumpers. It's a rimless tank. I had a fish only tank many, many years ago but consider myself new to this hobby. So looking for ease of maintenance and feeding. For CUC I plan on snails, no crabs.

Based on everything I've managed to read thus far it seems my choices are fairly limited. I was thinking...

Royal Gramma
Perc Clown (should I have two? what coral to get for it?)
Bicolor blenny
Flame angel
Spotted cardinal (need more than one?)

I just can't figure out what else I could possibly add that meets my setup. That is if my list above is even acceptable.

Firefish I like but they jump.
Tangs but the tank is way to small for any of them that I know of.
Dragonets look cool but seem to be fairly high maintenance for feeding.
Should I have some kind of sand sifter? A goby?

I know this is about fish but I would also like...

Fighting conch.
Some sort of decorative shrimp, not sure which one works best.
The thought of a clam one day would be nice.
My wife is bent on having a brittle star but she may have to live with it in the fuge as I'm unsure if it would be OK in the DT. Not the little tiny ones, one of the red or green ones.

And thank you in advance for your help.

Royal Gramma
Perc Clown (should I have two? what coral to get for it?) If you get two, you must get two very small juveniles; they will sexually differentiate and bond. With only one, it will eventually become female
Bicolor blenny
Flame angel not coral safe
Spotted cardinal (need more than one?) one is fine

I just can't figure out what else I could possibly add that meets my setup. That is if my list above is even acceptable.

Firefish I like but they jump. they do and frequently
Tangs but the tank is way to small for any of them that I know of. correct
Dragonets look cool but seem to be fairly high maintenance for feeding. If you wait a year, create "pod piles" and/or attach a refugium you should be fine
Should I have some kind of sand sifter? A goby? sand sifters do nothing of any true value; they make sand storms, which if you have corals can be a pain

I know this is about fish but I would also like...

Some sort of decorative shrimp, not sure which one works best.

No problem with the fish you are planning
The thought of a clam one day would be nice. a function of lighting
