Ok we sat down and redid our wish list. I have a QT set up. Tank is a 150 plus a 40 gallon sump. 150ish lbs live rock, plus 2-3 inch sand bed. Tank is 15 months set up and running after cycle. Skimmer and run socks. Params are in sig and current. Tank is soft coral dominate and will remain that way do to the ease of care they require. Tank is 4' long 3' high
and 2'deep. The wish list is as follows.

Coral beauty, flame or pygmy angle
Royal Gramma
Pajama Cardinal
Fire Fish
Chromis...are there any that school?
Anthias
Mandarin
Yellow watchman
And yellow Tang, he goes in last.
Only looking to add two or three at a time QT is only a 40 breeder what would be the recommended order. Thanks much!

Coral beauty, flame or pygmy angle all are behaviorally similar; if you do two, they should be introduced concurrently and somewhat early
Royal Gramma
Pajama Cardinal
Fire Fish early introduction
Chromis...are there any that school? No. And even worse, the dominant one will kill the rest over time
Anthias In this sized tank you could have a male plus 2-3 females but know that they do best when fed multiple times per day
Mandarin after 9 months
Yellow watchman
And yellow Tang, he goes in last.

But generally, this looks pretty good.

55 Gallon tank
10 gallon sump
skimmer, bioballs, sump pump, whatever other supplementals I made need. Like the calcium feeders?
80 lbs of live sand and 10 lbs of live rock.

Im starting all over this time saltwater so Im still in the reading part. I haven't even bought the sand or rock yet. Just throwing my ideas out there any help is greatly appreciated.

Clean up crew would be 2 Nassarius snails, 2 Trochus snails, and a Emerald Green crab.

Im married to 2 Amphiprion clarkii. Trying to find maybe 1 or 2 more at most to go along with them. Say one Chromis opercularis and one Ecsenius stigmatura.

A more "natural habitat" and less Fish per gallon is the way I intend to head. End game would be to have an Macrodactyla doreensis. From what I understand I'm a good ways away from that needing a year long mature tank.

I asked you earlier about this and want to amend it a bit. I saw some CuC package deals but they add a lot more than I originally thought. How would roughly 20 of each snails, shrimps and crabs impact my tank? Should I just stay at my originally low number?

snails and crabs don't really mix and there are a variety of useful snails so I would only do one or the other. Lots of times the package deals are good for them, not so good for you.

Thanks a ton, guess ill go with snails and shrimp. Crabs would be cool but i suppose its not worth it just to watch other stuff i need die.

Hello,

I'm new to the hobby and recently set up my first SW tank. The tank is a 40 gal breeder with a 20L sump. It is a mixed reef tank, that has been up for about a month. I am looking to mainly keep soft corals and LPS. I have about 40-45 LBs of cured live rock (fiji/jakarta) and 30 lbs live sand. I run a protein skimmer that a friend let me use until I decide to upgrade to a better skimmer but is a fine size for what I am running from what I'm told. I have a mag 5 return pump and a 425gph hydor powerhead. The tank has moderate flow overall. I have a dimmable LED light I found on ebay labeled 120W reef aquarium white and blue grow light 55x3 watts that is set on a timer and runs about 10 hours a day.

I already started to stock my tank, I just couldn't look at my tank empty, unfortunately my impatience got the best of me but I have heard of many ppl who started with all live cure rock/sand that had a very small to no cycle and had no trouble starting their tank in the same time frame I have. And in the time I have been running I have seen no signs of trouble, todays tests show ammonia-0, nitrite-0, nitrate-2.5, calcium-460, alk-11

Anyway, I currently have a pair of ocellaris clown, one blue damsel, 3 turbo snails, 4 blue leg hermits, 2 emerald crabs.
As far as coral, I have a small frogspawn I got at a local LFS for 15$, (I couldn't pass the deal up for such a nice piece), a 4 headed green torch, a few pulsating xenia, and a couple small peices I got all as one frag including 2 red mushrooms and 1 spotted blue mushroom, a few zoa and a small toadstool.

I would appreciate any suggestions on nice beginner coral/fish with nice color. I was thinking about adding a few fish, flame angel, (this I know has been said to eat coral but I have also read that if you get them young and feed them flake foods they will not bother the corals), royal gramma, and a type of blenny or goby, I hear good things about the lawnmower blenny but it seems a little dull for my taste, colorwise. I have recently been looking into jaw fish, they seem to be interesting but would like more information on them if anyone has info. Or a bi color blenny. I then also wanted to add one or 2 fire shrimp. I am also interested in purple reef lobster but and worried it may not get along with a goby/blenny. These are all to be acquired in due time from here on out.

If anyone can give me any info on the listed fish/inverts I'd greatly appreciate it. Any other suggestions are also very welcome, as well as any softie, LPS suggestions.

Thanks =)

Hello, fairly new to the hobby, still trying to learn as much as I can. I currently have a 50 gallon with 20 gallon sump setup. I plan on it being majorly reef but with fish as well. Right now I have an ocellaris clown and a royal gramma with CUC and about 50 lbs of live rock. I am thinking about adding 2 blue reef chromis and a starry or lawnmower blenny down the road. I also EVENTUALLY want to add a green mandarin but that's at least a year away after I know I won't starve him. Can anyone offer some more benifical additions that would do well in this tank? I want the wow factor of color as well as a fish that will contribute to the overall health and longevity of my tank. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

What about the Blue Reef Chromis? Also, what about a Lyretail Anthia? Would I run into any problems with those?

This is for a 60" LPS dominant reef
2 occ clowns
Orchid Dottyback
Mag Foxface
Yellow Longnose
McCosker's Flasher Wrasse
Solon Wrasse
Midas Blenny
Flame Hawk
Kole Tang

Slightly worried about the Psuedochromis with the wrasses, but I much prefer that to a gramma.

This thread is only about marine fish compatibility with each other and with the environment you are providing. As those who follow this thread know, I do not provide recommendations for a variety of reasons. However I am always happy to provide analysis of stocking lists provided you list tank size and maturity.

which fish to add first

which fish to add first

I started my tank September 6th and have cycled.I have had diatoms, cyano, and gha. I added my clean up crew about 3 weeks ago.I have calupra in my refuge other info in my signature.here is a list of what I would like to have.this will be a reef tank
Banghai cardinals. 3-5
Type of wrasse. 6 line probably
type of gobie not sure which one
Marroon and gold clown. 2

thanks for any help

So I dont plan on adding anymore fish I just wanted to get your thoughts on my current stock list.

60g Cube
45ishlbs LR
2-3" sand bed
Coralife skimmer
20 Gallon Sump/ Refugium

Stocking List in order I added:
1 Yellow "Coris" Wrasse
2 Occelaris Clowns
1 Blue Spotted Watchman Goby / Pistol pair
1 Coral Beauty
1 6 line Wrasse

I have had no aggression issues with any of the fish. The Goby is very timid and is scared of the Coral Beauty but i have never seen her attack or harass at all. The Goby just darts back into his hole and then comes back out a minute or so later.

Thanks for your help.

After a month of cycling with ammonium chloride and Elos bacteria complex, my tank seems to metabolize ammonia and nitrate quickly enough that I feel comfortable to slowly begin adding livestock. I want to put something in the tank this weekend, and I’m unsure where to start.

There are no signs of algae, diatom, or bacterial blooms... yet. I plan on keeping mostly LPS corals (Scoly, Lobo, Acan, Favia, Hammer, Torch) with some SPS that are easier to care for (perhaps Montipora) but until the tank is a bit more established, I want to start with the fish and inverts if that makes better sense.

The tank is an Elos System 70, with 50 lbs. Real Reef and 40 lbs. CaribSea Arag-Alive. For what it’s worth, Elos claims it’s a 55 gallon tank, but that’s only when measuring the outer dimensions of the glass. Based on the tank’s inside dimensions, it’s closer to 45 gallons.

(2) Ocellaris Clowns
(3) Blue/Green Chromis
(1) Yellow Watchman Goby
(1) Royal Gramma –or– (1) Bicolor Dottyback (I understand the Dotty may not play as nice as the Gramma)
(1) Barlett’s Anthias (is the tank large enough?)
(1) Swissguard Basslet (perhaps, but that’s kind of pricey for a tiny fish)

(2) Peppermint Shrimp
(2) Skunk Cleaner Shrimp
(1) Pistol Shrimp to hopefully form a relationship with the Goby
I would also like snails in the tank, but at the moment, there doesn’t seem to be anything for them to clean. When can I add them?

Thanks a million in advance Snorvich, this is a great thread!

hello everyone!

I am thinking of putting in two ocellaris clowns, a fairy wrasse, a six line wrasse, a cleaner shrimp, and prawn goby, and a purple firefish goby in my tank.

I currently have a 40 breeder with a 50 gallon filter with bio wheel, and a hang on back refugium i made out of an old 30 gallon filter i had laying around. it has Chaeto and bio balls. I have about 35 to 40 lbs of LR, and planning on getting some Dry rock that my LR can seed.

fish wise i currently have a fire goby, a lawnmower blenny, two chromies, and a dalmation molly. and for coral, i dont have a strong enough light to grow anything major so i only have a small frag of yellow button polyps and two ricordia mushrooms (about to be three, it looks like one is splitting off.
