OK. I will forego the Mandarin then. Would I be able to keep something like a green or yellow clown goby in it's place?

Thank You

Hi my name is Tom
I have a 180 fowlr with a 60 gal sump. I am running a hf32 so I think my turn over is somewhere around 800 gallons a hour. I am using a aqua c eV 240 and the large aqua max bio pellet reactor.
My question is my wife brought home a pink or red tail trigger it's what I would call show size. We have had it for around 3 months now. I have not seen it go after any fish but I bought a diamond goby and it's missing. For a stock list I have a blue angel, passer angel, six bar angel, solhow tang, leutenit tang, convict tang, yellow tang, sail fin tang, purple tang, black blenny, bi color blenny, 5 blue chromis. I know it seems like a big bio load on a 180 but my water chemistry is good. I do 40 gallon water changes every two weeks
Back to the diamond goby. I did a hour long drip acclamation and the end of my day cycle when I put him in the lights were off. When I looked for him the next day he was gone no evidence of him any where.
What do you think?

Well, quite honestly, you are WAY overstocked with large fish in a six foot tank. I probably am not going to be able to help you given your current population of fish.

Hi Steve,

I have a 120 gal mixed reef with 40 gal sump. My tank has about 2 inches of sandbed all around. I recently bought a randall's goby and pistol shrimp pair and unsure whether to add it to the tank or to put them on a separate nano tank. I am concerned that the resident lizard blenny might eat the pistol shrimp. The current livestock list are:

1 red lizard blenny
2 ocellaris clownfish
1 red sea sailfin tang
1 blue eyed kole tang
1 female spotbreast angelfish
1 royal gramma
1 midas blenny
1 scooter blenny
2 blue chromis
1 dispar anthias
1 firefish
1 serpent starfish
forgot to add: 2 cleaner shrimps

Let me know what you think. Thanks in advance!!

1 red lizard blenny will eat inverts such as shrimp and small fish but probably cannot catch the pistol shrimp as long as it is guarded by the goby
2 ocellaris clownfish
1 red sea sailfin tang needs a much larger tank
1 blue eyed kole tang
1 female spotbreast angelfish
1 royal gramma
1 midas blenny
1 scooter blenny
2 blue chromis
1 dispar anthias
1 firefish

Okay, so currently in my 38 gallon, I have the following:

2 x Ocellaris clowns
1 x Royal Gramma
1 x Yellow Watchman goby / pistol shrimp.

Now, I plan on adding at least one more fish.

This will be either a Fairy wrasse or a flasher wrasse. My question is, could I even add another one after this? Like a Bengaii cardinal or something? Or will I be near my stocking limit after adding the wrasse? Thanks!

Because of their activity level both fairy and flasher wrasses need a larger tank. This is not a bioload issue, but a behavioral issue.

Okay, thank you. Do you think two more fish would be too much and I should stick with adding only one more fish? Or two is okay?

Hi!
I have an IM Nuvo 30, set up for over a month now with 35lbs live rock, 25 lbs live sand.
It is currently home to two large turbo snails, 3 hermits, and a yellow watchman Goby/ tiger pistol shrimp pair. Water is testing perfect. I also have a 10g QT with two lovely red firefish in it at the moment that my wife fell in love with. I know they are rather timid, so my question is how will they react to the goby/shrimp pair?

It depends on which fish and their behavior. This is never a "numbers game", it is always a behavioral characteristics issue.

They will not interact at all. Unfortunately, two firefish will become one firefish over time unless you have a bonded pair, which is highly unlikely.

Hello, fairly new to the hobby, still trying to learn as much as I can. I currently have a 50 gallon with 20 gallon sump setup. I plan on it being majorly reef but with fish as well. Right now I have an ocellaris clown and a royal gramma with CUC and about 50 lbs of live rock. I am thinking about adding 2 blue reef chromis and a starry or lawnmower blenny down the road. I also EVENTUALLY want to add a green mandarin but that's at least a year away after I know I won't starve him. Can anyone offer some more benifical additions that would do well in this tank? I want the wow factor of color as well as a fish that will contribute to the overall health and longevity of my tank. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

This thread is only answered by Reef Central Staff. As those who follow this thread know, I do not provide suggestions for a variety of reasons but am always happy to analyze any stocking plan. A 50 gallon tank is very marginal for maintaining a mandarin long term unless you add a producing refugium.

Yes, a fuge is definitely in the picture. I am trying to figure out what layout would work best and also trying to see what works best with the available room in my apartment bedroom. I have an empty 40 gallon just sitting on a stand next to my current tank that I was thinking about setting up as a stand alone refugium. The extra water volume wouldn't hurt either ;)

Excellent idea. With a 40 gallon refugium and 9 months maturity you will be fine with a mandarin.

What should I be looking to stock the refugium with? A diversity of algaes? Anything in particular other than LR?

Well that is really beyond the scope of this thread which is only Marine Fish Compatibility. However, I will diverge a bit this once. A variety of macro algae not including caulerpa.

Looking for ideas. We currently have a 2-3 inch clown (Ocellaris). A melanrus wrasse, And two blue damsels less than 2 in long. Our tank is a 150. we are looking to add some color to it. Suggestions are welcome. Also it will be set up as a reef so coral safe is important.
