Hello,
I am setting up a Red Sea Max 250 (66gal)with 25kg live rock, 35kg live sand. Here is my intended stock list:
1 blue dot jawfish for best results, this fish needs cooler temperatures; do you have a chiller? 72-75 F would be the max since they are collected in the sea of cortez
1 purple firefish
1 pair tank bred black/white clowns
1 coral beauty
1 red mandarin(after tank is established)
1 fire shrimp
1cleaner shrimp
and the regular cuc.
fine with the annotation on the one fish
I would like to add a copperband butterfly but I think its not enough room for him. not with a mandarin, but only marginal without
What do you think of the list?
Thanks
No chiller yet. I was gonna see how it ran without 1st. Thanks for the advice.
Can you mix different cardinal fish or different chromis in the same tank?
I currently have one Slippery Dick wrasse. It's a really cool fish and was thinking about getting 3-4 more for a harem in a 120-gallon tank. Any concerns on keeping multiple halichores wrasses in a 5-foot tank?
Sixline Wrasse, Royal Gramma, and a banded coral shrimp in a 10 gallon tank. There is 10 pounds of live rock and about 1.5" live sand. For filtration: AC 70 with filter floss, chemi pure elite, and chaeto. 20% water changes will be done weekly.
I know that it depends on the size of the fish, but what would be the ballpark number for a 225 gallon (72" x 27" x 27") mixed reef with a 50 gallon sump, 300 lbs of LR, and a 2 inch live sand bed.
Impossible to answer, because, as you said, it depends on fish behavior
1) I'd like to have 4 tangs (Yellow, Kole, Hippo, and Blonde Naso), if it's possible. Four tangs, two of which are very large, in a six foot tank is unlikely to succeed long term
2) A pair of percula clowns.
3) Either a flame or coral beauty angel (yes, I know that some may nip at corals). correct, no dwarf angel is coral safe, especially LPS
4) A bluethroat trigger. no trigger is totally invert safe in the long run
5) A wrasse to be determined later (reef-safe one, of course).
6) 3 chromis will become one over time
7) 3 anthias anthias do best if fed multiple times per day so depends on species
8) Bicolor blenny
9) Diamond goby
10) Damsel (one of the least aggressive ones - or are they all mean?) no, and in your sized tank should not be an issue
11) Mandarin (once the tank is established, of course, perhaps after a year or so)
Is that too many fish? 5 largish fish, 4 of which occupy the same ecological niche may not be peaceful long term
If not, how many more can I add?
Would welcome any input.
Thanks!
Tank will be 75 gallon (48"x18"x21") with a 30 gallon sump. 3" deep sand with as much rock as I can get.
2 Ocellaris Clownfish
1 Starry Blenny
1 Flame Angelfish
1 Yellow Longnose Butterflyfish or Saddleback Butterflyfish (would either thrive in this size tank?) either should be fine
1 Kole Yellow Eye Tang
1 Orange-Back Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus aurantidorsalis)
1 Red Head Solon Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus solorensis) on the aggressive side and will lose coloration absent a female
1 Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse
1 Yellowfin Flasher Wrasse
1 Leopard Wrasse
Cleaner Shrimp
Peppermint Shrimp
Snails
Can there be too many shrimp? How many of each species would be good in my size tank? cleaners should only be two, peppermint, as many as you want
Would it be better to only acquire 1 flasher and fairy wrasse and get a group of leopard wrassses instead? Or are there too many fish? leopard wrasses would be more difficult for a couple of reasons: only one male can coexist, plus competition for food in a relatively smallish tank
Do you consider one type of leopard wrasse less difficult to keep than the others? I have never had a problem keeping them if I got a healthy fish; but remember, I have large tanks with plenty of natural food. All will eat supplied food, but all also hunt the tank for copepods
I am only at the planning stage, but am looking at the 29 gallon Biocube HQI. Mixed Reef.
1 x Firefish Goby - (Nemateleotris magnifica)
2 x Ocellaris Clownfish - (Amphiprion ocellaris)
1 x Yellow Watchman Goby (Cryptocentrus cinctus)
1 x Pistol Shrimp Tiger/Red Banded
This might be pushing it but if anything else goes in it would be
2 x Banggai Cardinal - (Pterapogon kauderni) mated pair. tank raised only
Once the tank is properly established I would love to add a clam
Derasa Clam (Tridacna derasa)
That plan will be fine
Woho! I guess reading through every single post in this thread taught me something :-D
Thank you!
You read them all!!!!??? I think over the two groups of posts (the thread had to be split twice) we are up around 15,000 posts (the current thread alone has 9000 or so).
