quick question....
have a diamond goby now
2 mocha clowns
1 firefish

Can I add a rainford (Amblygobius rainfordi) goby or will it have issues with the diamond watchman? was curious since one description of the Rainford says it will sift sand and the diamond is already taking care of that.
46g bowfront w/ 70lbs live rock and ~2" sandbed(3" in some areas due to gobys landscaping ruotine)

My fish list is as fallows
1. Sohal
2. 2x gold bar maroon (paired)
3. One spot fox face
4. Regal angle
5. Red Hawk

I have a 240 gallon display with live sand and rock with a 75 gallon tank for micro algae sand and a little rock and a 100 gallon sump/refugium with a skimmer I have a apex to control my lights ecosotics and the heater witch consist of a coil in the sump which I pump hot water from my water heater through the coil

I've put a lot of thought into this list of fish even considering that the sohal would be the boss off the tank the clown fish and the red hawk would not be bothered(do there own thing) the regal is a submissive fish and would fallow what the sohal says the fox face is poisonous fish so everyone would leave him alone. would appreciate any suggestions thank you

1. Sohal as the sohal tang matures, it will kill other fish
2. 2x gold bar maroon (paired) aggressive
3. One spot fox face
4. Regal angle difficult, may not coexist with the sohal
5. Red Hawk

Unfortunately your choice of a sohal tang will not work out well in the long run. How long? Unpredictable.

180 gal tank, 75 gal sump
@260 lbs of live rock
3-4" sand bed

Current fish:
Blonde Naso tang
Yellow tang (calm natured, still young)
Coral Beauty Angelfish
Plus CUC: snails, hermit crabs, gobbie, etc

New additions:

Caramel Clownfish (pair), or Tomato Clownfish (pair)
Marine Betta
Flameback Angelfish

Would like to get another tang like:

Kole Tang
Blue Tang
Orangeshoulder Tang

I learned lessons hard. I have now set up a QT.
I will only 1-2 fish every 2-3 weeks after being in QT tank for that time.

Thanks for your time.

Caramel Clownfish (pair), or Tomato Clownfish (pair) carmel clownfish will be much less aggressive
Marine Betta
Flameback Angelfish

Would like to get another tang like: I discourage 3 tangs in a six foot tank for long term. The yellow may take major umbrage at any new tang depending on how established it is

Kole Tang least aggressive of the choices
Blue Tang If you are talking about P. hepatus, this needs a longer tank, especially with other tangs
Orangeshoulder Tang

So I'm playing with a different stocking idea thank I have done in the past. The corals will be a mixed reef. I haven't put any though to the stocking order of these fish. It's an 8x2x2 tank with 250-300lbs of live rock with 2" sand bed.

Antennata Lionfish
Pterois antennata
Lionfish
Added: March 27, 2014

Diamond Watchman Goby (something that would sift sand and not drop it on coral)
Valenciennea puellaris
Gobies
Added: March 27, 2014
Quantity: 2

Green Reef Chromis (clean the water of particles)
Chromis viridis
Chromis

Unfortunately, I do not provide analysis of aggressive/predator fish community tanks. However, we have a forum where that question will get lots of help. It can be found here.

I live in Hawaii and I'm setting up a 180 gallon reef tank that will run to an outside refugium. The refugium will be a 250 gallon water tote that will have about 150 gallons of water in it. The tote will have the top cut off with a clear roof to use natural sunlight. I will be running a SWC 230 skimmer. When I say reef tank, I mean what is legal in Hawaii which is mostly local zoas, palys, leathers, and anemones. I dive and collect all inverts and fish but would still like to know if what I plan to collect will be compatible and in what numbers for this size setup. I would like more smaller fish than just a few large fish. This is the list of fish I am considering followed by the numbers of each I am considering. Let me know if you think these fish are going to be compatible and if I could have small schools of some of the smaller fish or if some of these fish would do better only one to a tank this size. Plus what fish should be added first after I cycle the tank to reduce aggression. Thanks

Fisher's Angelfish: 1 or 2

Flame Angelfish: 1 or 2

Potter's Angelfish: 1 or 2

Scarface Blenny: 1 or 2

Chocolate Dip Chromis: 3 to 6

White-Tail Chromis: 3 to 6

Blackfin Chrosim: 3 to 6

Indigo Dartfish: 2 or 3

Bicolor Anthias: 3

Hawaiian Longfin Anthias: 3

Goldring Surgeonfish (Kole Tang): 1

Yellow Tang: 1

Flame Wrasse: 3

Fourline Wrasse: 1 or 2

always, most aggressive last, most passive first

Thanks

Fisher's Angelfish: 1 or 2

Flame Angelfish: 1 or 2

Potter's Angelfish: 1 or 2 these angelfish are generally all grazers, but in a 180 gallon six foot tank, there would be sufficient algae for 3-4 of them. Pairing is tricky, but can be done

Scarface Blenny: 1 or 2 one

Chocolate Dip Chromis: 3 to 6 chromis will weed themselves down to one over time

White-Tail Chromis: 3 to 6 chromis will weed themselves down to one over time

Blackfin Chrosim: 3 to 6 chromis will weed themselves down to one over time

Indigo Dartfish: 2 or 3

Bicolor Anthias: 3

Hawaiian Longfin Anthias: 3

Goldring Surgeonfish (Kole Tang): 1

Yellow Tang: 1 last

Flame Wrasse: 3

Fourline Wrasse: 1 or 2 with C. jordani, I would avoid these

Thanks of the fast response and great info. That's a shame that I can't have a school of Chromis because their schools in the ocean look spectacular. I heard of problems with six line wrasse but was hoping the four line was different. Thanks again!

Steve, quick question, I have a 240 with one perc clown and 2 black Percs. Hey get along fine and it's been about 1.5 years or so. Here is my question, I have a chance to get 2 snowflake clownfish from the same local breeder as my current clownfish. All get along in HIS tank but I'm wondering what your thoughts on this are. They are all Percs so I "hope" they get along but I don't want to add them on a hope as to catch them would be horrible and I don't want to risk harm to any. I know I'm lucky that the 3 I have now get along.

Thank you,
Corey

Well, the normal case is that you can only have one pair of clownfish of any species in a tank. However, People have done it in larger tanks when each pair has their own anemone that they associate with. However I do not recommend it as the odds are not in your favor since females do not want any competitive females around.

lined wrasses of this family can be a PITA towards fairy and flasher wrasses specifically. Male C. jordani can be easily intimidated especially.

Ok I revised my list hopefully this works. Not sure about the angels though.

180 gal tank, 75 gal sump
@260 lbs of live rock
3-4" sand bed

Current fish:
Blonde Naso tang
Yellow tang (calm natured, still young)
Coral Beauty Angelfish
Plus CUC: snails, hermit crabs, gobbie, etc

New additions:
Pair Tomato Clownfish
Pajama Cardnial
Bartlett Anthias
Rusty Angel - Next to last
Majestic Angel - Last

As stated before will have 1-2 fish at a time in QT for 4 weeks.
