Hi Guys,

Looking for recommendation of fish/invertebrates for my new tank:

General Requirements (listed high to low priority):
Compatible with each other
Reef friendly (towards softies and lps)
Colorful
Invertebrate friendly (towards shrimp, clams, anenomes)
Priced under $100/fish

Would like to have a mix of the following (listed high to low priority):
Clown(s)
Hawkfish(es)
Blue Tang no tangs in this sized tank
Goby(ies)

Would like to keep between 4-7 fish (to minimize bioload)

Tank Set Up:
34 gallon cube tank
20 gallon sump
Total water volume of 40 gallons
Protein skimmer
Kessil 360we

Thank You In Advance!

As those who follow this thread know, I do not provide recommendations for a variety of reasons. However I am always happy to evaluate any stocking list provided you also indicate tank size.

55 gallon mixed reef intended - cycling
ReefOcto BH-1000 HOB skimmer

2-3 blue reef chromis
1 orange stripe prawn goby
1 tangaroa goby
1 yellowhead jawfish (??) [SSB currently, thinking Mimic saddle puffer file fish instead]
1 midas blenny
pair of clowns (ocellaris or percula)

1-2tiger pistol shrimp
5-10 banded trochus snails
1 decorator crab
2-3 peppermint shrimp
3-4 camel shrimp
1 brittle sea star

55 gallon mixed reef intended - cycling
ReefOcto BH-1000 HOB skimmer

2-3 blue reef chromis will become one as the dominant one kills the remainder
1 orange stripe prawn goby in this sized tank, only one shrimp goby commensal pair
1 tangaroa goby
1 yellowhead jawfish (??) [SSB currently, thinking Mimic saddle puffer file fish instead] the jawfish is probably more interesting
1 midas blenny may nip fins of tankmates
pair of clowns (ocellaris or percula)

1-2tiger pistol shrimp one goby will end up with both
5-10 banded trochus snails
1 decorator crab if you are planning a reef, these are destructive
2-3 peppermint shrimp
3-4 camel shrimp not reef safe
1 brittle sea star

with the exception of annotations, should be fine

Rethinking my stocking plans for my 65g mixed reef.

Current livestock:

1 Watchman goby w/ pistol shrimp
2 skunk cleaner shrimp
2 true Percs (bonded pair)
1 fire fish

To liven things up I was thinking of making 3 blue green chromis my last addition. I've heard they are on the fragile side and may die off, but never heard that they are actually killing each other off.

unfortunately they do. Not immediately, but over time. Also be careful, these fish must be quarantined.

Thanks!

What are the differences between Anthias that make some more amenable than others?

Since this is not a discussion thread, it would be best to post that question in Reef Fish. In general, ease of feeding/difficulty in feeding, type of food, color retention, aggressiveness, suitability to living in captivity, size, activity level, and more.

I have a 34 gallon cube tank with 20 gallon sump, running a protein skimmer.

I’m planning to have the following fish that I’m hoping are also reef friendly (towards softies and lps):

Ocellaris Clownfish (single or paired)
Flame Hawkfish or Longnose Hawkfish
Flame Angelfish
Diamond Watchman Goby
Cleaner Shrimp (or similar)
Maxima Clam

Thank you in advance

Ocellaris Clownfish (single or paired)
Flame Hawkfish or Longnose Hawkfish neither is shrimp safe
Flame Angelfish not coral safe
Diamond Watchman Goby
Cleaner Shrimp (or similar)
Maxima Clam success is a function of lighting

Well, the normal case is that you can only have one pair of clownfish of any species in a tank. However, People have done it in larger tanks when each pair has their own anemone that they associate with. However I do not recommend it as the odds are not in your favor since females do not want any competitive females around.

Steve, I'm not questioning you per say, just a question. If all fish are just babies except for one female that already exists in my tank. In THEORY wouldn't the others stay male?
Just curious, not saying I'm going to try. I'm just asking
Thank you

Corey

Since this is not a discussion thread, it would be desirable to post your question in our Anemone and Clown fish forum or read the explanation in this thread.

I have a 55 gal running for the past 3 months, 10 gal sump, Tunze skimmer, LED
Current inhabitants
Ocellaris Clown x 2
Starry Blenny x 1
Yellow Clown Goby x 1
Fire Shrimp x 2
Peppermint shrimp x 1
Red mithrax crab x 1
Astrea snails
Nassarius snails
hermit scarlet legged crab x 2

Some softies and LPS corals

Planning to add more active colorful fishes to the tank- Reef safe and not aggressive to each other.

Would the following be good options?
Citron clown goby
Green clown goby
Court jester goby/ Hectors goby- either one not both
Orange spotted goby/ randalls goby- either one not both
Midas Blenny
Pgymy wrasse- one of them
Flasher Warsse- one of them
yasha white ray shrimp goby
Candy cane pistol shrimp

Thanks,
Vijay
