steve, i've been considering a lawnmower blenny. i read where they need an established tank. i used much of the live rock from my two small tanks in my new 75g. how long does it take to reach the "established" stage, if you can even estimate that?

right now my fish consist of:
1 orange spotted goby
2 snowflake clowns
1 royal gramma
1 longnosed hawkfish

thanks!

Difficult to say since the rock is coming from established tanks. Worst case is you can feed Nori for a couple of months. No behavioral issues with existing fish.

30g tank, sand/live rock..want to do soft corals later on
a pair of clowns(maybe maroon or tomato or Ocellaris)
a coral beauty angel

...also want to do a shrimp or 2(maybe peppermint or skunk)
different kinds of snails
maybe some hermit crabs

could I also do Firefish Goby or some other sort of goby, or a couple of damsels?

a pair of clowns(maybe maroon or tomato or Ocellaris) there is a huge difference. A pair of A. ocellaris will work, but either of the others would command the entire tank
a coral beauty angel needs a larger tank

different kinds of snails
maybe some hermit crabs crabs kill snails so choose one or the other.

could I also do Firefish Goby sure

or some other sort of goby, or a couple of damsels? damsels are aggressive and will limit other choices

I am in the planning stages of a 96 x 30 1/8 x 26 1/4; 320 gallon aquarium. I want to purchase as juveniles and keep the fish long term. I plan to add these fish in the following order:

1. Yellow Tang
1. Powder Blue Tang
1. Purple Tang
1. Vlamingii Tang
2. Black & White Arothron Puffer
2. Porcupine Puffer
3. Harlequin Tusk
4. Green Bird Wrasse
5. Queen Angel
6. Niger Trigger
6. Red Tail Trigger

Total 11 fish. I am still in the planning stages, but here is my tentative equipment list:

180 gallon sump
Shallow reef flakes substrate
Pukani and Tonga Branch Rock ~200 lbs
Heavy flow in Display
SRO 8000 external skimmer
Macroalgae (if needed)
55 Watt UV Sterilizer
Media Reactors (if needed)
Durso Standpipe Overflow
Led Lights

Thanks!!!

I do not normally provide analysis on aggressive fish tanks; however I do think this mix will work. The UV will not impact parasite control but will act as a water clarifier. Be sure to have a quarantine protocol.

6'L x 2' W x 18" H 135 gallon tank; same footprint as a 180 minus 6" in height. Will be mixed reef LPS, SPS and few zoas. 100lbs of rock. 100lbs of sand.

Currently have in QT from my last tank:
- Acanthurus tennenti 3.5"
- Gramma loreto

- 2x ocellaris

Planned fish to be added:
- Paracanthurus hepatus
- Melichthys indicus
- Geniacanthus lamarck

- 4x Gramma loreto for total of 5 or should I do 3?
- 3x Sargocentron sp. Striped Squirrelfish
- Halichoeres iridis
- Halichoeres chrysus

Other fish considered:
- Acanthurus leucosternon
- Acanthurus pyroferus
- Forcipiger Flavissimus
- Hemitaurichthys polylepis
- Melichthys vidua
- Xanthichthys auromarginatus
- Xanthichthys ringens

Will my planned fish work in this tank? I feel like it may be a little too much with the two tangs, trigger and angel. If so what would be a better stocklist including the other fish I have considered?

Currently have in QT from my last tank:
- Acanthurus tennenti 3.5"
- Gramma loreto

- 2x ocellaris

Planned fish to be added:
- Paracanthurus hepatus needs longer tank
- Melichthys indicus aggressive especially in this sized tank
- Geniacanthus lamarck

- 4x Gramma loreto for total of 5 or should I do 3? there is no magic number. G. loreto holds a small but discrete territory so tank length is critical for multiples. In your length tank, I am guessing 3.
- 3x Sargocentron sp. Striped Squirrelfish
- Halichoeres iridis
- Halichoeres chrysus

Other fish considered:
- Acanthurus leucosternon I would discourage multiple tangs in this sized tank
- Acanthurus pyroferus
- Forcipiger Flavissimus one of my favorites
- Hemitaurichthys polylepis a great fish, but you are going for too many large fish in this sized tank
- Melichthys vidua
- Xanthichthys auromarginatus
- Xanthichthys ringens

You have too many largish fish, some of which are very aggressive. Two smallish tangs would work, although only marginally so, but I would definitely not try to add a trigger into that mix.

25g cube, large sump (~20g), SCA301 skimmer, cheats fuge with sand bed. Live rock DT, one corner of the tank will have deep sand.

Sump workers....Snails

Clown pair
Yellow head jaw fish
Royal Gramma
May just run these but would love a lemon peel angel

Assorted corals, anemone eventually

Cleaner shrimp
Cucumber
Starfish
Snails
Urchin

Just what I'd like, pick away, let me know what you think...

Hello and thanks

Looking for Help Stocking my 29 Gallon Biocube Reef

Looking for Help Stocking my 29 Gallon Biocube Reef

Hello,

This is my first post on ReefCentral! I have had my tank set up for about 4-5 months now and I am looking to finish stocking the tank. I started out with a pair of maroon clownfish. After this I introduced a six line wrasse, and then eventually got a yellow watchman goby. The smaller (male) maroon passed away, so I am looking to get one or two more fish.

The tank is a 29 gallon biocube with stock return pump, 530 gph Seio circulation pump, no sump, small refugium located in an In Tank fuge basket in the back. I am currently running an In Tank media basket with filter floss, purigen and chemi pure elite. I may just wind up using carbon and some filter floss though. I do have a biocube skimmer, however I have not been using it and may wind up getting an aquatic life 115 nano skimmer.

So right now I have

-1 Female Maroon Clownfish (she isn't very large yet and I know that she will require a larger tank in the future and when she becomes to large or aggressive I will rehome her.)

-1 Six Line Wrasse (Gets along great with the maroon)

-1 Yellow Watchman (This guy is kind of boring and I got him a pistol shrimp but who knows if he's still in there. He was small and the maroon possibly got him.

So I'm looking for some stocking ideas. I was thinking about adding a cherub angelfish OR a fishers angelfish. Then possibly a royal gramma or falco hawkfish. I was also recommended to do a mandrain. I know that they have very specific feeding requirements and I may be able to provide for one, if it ate frozen, however would it even work with my fish? From what I have seen they are pretty slow moving and timid fish, so would a maroon and six line beat him up and kill him?

Sorry if that is not really set in stone, I'm just looking for your opinion on my setup and which fish or two I should add.

Thanks, Braden

Here is my tank....

My nano reef

My nano reef

In our dining room we have a small 16 gallon nano reef (Nuvo). We have 10lbs live rock and 2 clown fish. It's my understanding, that is probably all the fish I can have for this nano. Just thought I would ask if I could add 1 more fish and if so, what? In the process of getting a 100G, will post a build thread in the near future.

Unfortunately, it will be very difficult to add fish to your existing fish population since they are very aggressive.

Yes, in this sized tank, what you have is actually more than can do well long term but I certainly would not add additional fish.

75 gallon fowlr maybe coral w 75 pounds live sand and 75 pounds LR

2 ocellaris clowns
Yellow longhouse butterflyfish
Kole tang
Mystery wrasse
Yellow watchmen goby
Mandarin
Potters angelfish

Neptune

Hi, I'm still in the planning stage and starting to buy equipment for my tank but I've been researching fish too and trying to figure out what I could keep. I've come up with a list of fish I fancy and I'd appreciate any advice/opinions!

The tank is 5', 120g and I want to go reef. I also want to stick to as peaceful fish as possible, don't want too many aggression issues. Also obviously I'll be adding these over a long time and cycling the tank fully first.

My ideas:

-Kole tang
-Chromis - can I have a group?
-flasher wrasse
-watanabei angel - 2 if I could get hold of them together but more likely 1
-pair of clownfish - no idea which
-one-spot foxface
-Cleaner wrasse
-royal gramma
-copperband butterfly- I know the issues with this fish feeding etc- this would be if I had the tank established for a long time and was advanced enough to try it!

Please be nice if I've made any glaring errors! :)
