In your sized tank, a single would be preferred. In a larger tank a group would work but there is no magic number. Anthias do best if fed multiple times per day.

OK also is there a goby I could attempt to pair up with the watchman? I originally got a pistol shrimp but the wrasse was hungry

Pair up? No. Compatible with, sure. Do some research and check back for compatibility.

Hi Steve,

I just paid for a skunk cleaner shrimp and i'll be getting him tomorrow. I hear these are better in pairs, and they tend to come out more if you have more than one. I'm wondering if getting a peppermint to go with him would have the same effect as getting another skunk cleaner. I like the idea of the aptasia control (although i know it's hit or miss with the peppermints), and i just like variety.

As this thread is only about marine fish compatibility, I don't really answer questions about inverts except with regards to marine fish compatibility. You can start your own thread, however, and get lots of answers.

ah, so they kill eachother off eh? I was considering the small school because Live Aquaria recommended keeping in multiples.

The dominant one will knock off the rest over time; but there is another issue with chromis, and that is they are highly susceptible to uronema marinum so if you get any be sure you have a robust quarantine protocol.

as far as blennies - either is fine but neither will help with hair algae

Hello, this is my first post on the site, though I have been lurking for a while now. I am currently working on my first tank, a 29-gallon diamond shaped tank, (22" wide and deep, 23" tall) and am trying to iron out my stocking list. My wife wants clown fish, naturally, and so two Ocellaris are the only fully non-negotiable inclusion.
The list:
2 Ocellaris, mated pair
2 Sand sifting gobies, either S. nematodes or A. randalli, mated pair if possible.
1 fish to fill the space between and add some variety of colour. I am considering either a Mandarinfish (in the future, of course) or a Flasher wrasse

My tank has about 25 pounds of LR, plus a DSB with Plenum. I also have a HOB filter that I could turn into a fuge for the Mandarin.

The most important factor after generally compatibility is whether the fish occupy the same or similar habitats in the wild, and are from roughly the same geographic region.As I said, only the Ocellaris are set in stone, so if there are no suitable fish of the above varieties within the same general range/habitats, I can change the list.

I do not have a list of corals yet, but I plan to use soft corals exclusively.

2x maroon clowns (they are still small, female is about 2.5")
1x black clown
1x yellow coris wrasse
1x coral beauty angel
1x yellow tang
1x powder brown tang

I would like to add:
1x Lubbock's wrasse
1 or 2x neon gobies
1x starry blenny
1x more wrasse, probably a flasher

Is this too much? Right now everybody gets along well, although I am worried about the maroon clowns when they start getting bigger, but right now the only other fish they don't like is the coris wrasse, and they only chase him when they go near the trumpet coral they live in.

i have a 40B with a 20L sump with about 50 pounds of BRS reef saver rock and was thinking of adding 2 clownfish, a coral beauty, purple dottyback, and a yellow prawn goby would my tank size be good to keep these?

Depends on the species of clownfish; A. percula or A. ocellaris will work. A coral beauty really needs a considerably larger tank; a purple dottyback will limit tank mates due to aggression.
