Hello......I am new to RC and to salt. I have a 29G biocube that has been set-up for a couple months. I have live sand and live rock. I have some snails, crabs peppermint shrimp and a red shrimp. I also have some beginner soft corals and two black and white clowns. The tank has cycled and doing real well. I guess I want to know what fish I can add that are hardy and for a reef tank.
I was thinking a pygmy angel, yellow goby and shrimp?
Thanks,

A pygmy angel requires a larger and more mature tank; a shrimp/goby combination is terrific.

Dwarf puffer

Hi , I know this is for fish, but I don't know where else to turn.

Will a Blue Spot puffer nibble on sponges? I know they will coral, but I cannot seem to find anything in relation to sponges. I have some growing on my live rock and don't want to see it eaten.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, a couple of weeks ago we had an ice storm and lost power for about 2 days...Tank temp dropped to 52* F.... Only the snails survived, lol. (Not prepared, No way to heat house, have now corrected that for the next time).

Anyway, basically starting with a clean slate now. Added more rock (~60-80 lbs total now), 125g fowler, 55g sump system in basement. LED lights on the way.

I have always thought of doing a Butterfly tank. What I've got in mind:
1 of each unless noted:

Orange / Klein's (Chaetodon kleini)
Pearlscale (Chaetodon xanthurus)
Auriga (Chaetodon auriga)
Raccoon (Chaetodon lunula)
Saddleback (Chaetodon ephippium)
Spotband (Chaetodon punctatofasciatus)
(Heinochus Acuminata) (maybe x2)

Considering:
Spotfin (Chaetodon ocellatus)
Latticed (Chaetodon rafflesi)
Teardrop (Chaetodon unimaculatus)
Mertensii (Chaetodon mertensii)

Other fish possibly:
Nemateleotris magnifica (x2)
Gramma loreto (x2)
Cryptocentrus cinctus (possiby w/pistol shrimp)

Thoughts on total number of fish, compatability issues, etc...

Any input is greatly appreciated.

While this thread is only about Marine Fish compatibility, the question is close enough. Blue Spot puffers are carnivores. Sponge is safe, inverts are not.

The group above should do fine. But I would not add the second group of butterfly fish.

Spotfin (Chaetodon ocellatus)
Latticed (Chaetodon rafflesi)
Teardrop (Chaetodon unimaculatus)
Mertensii (Chaetodon mertensii)

Other fish possibly:
Nemateleotris magnifica (x2) One
Gramma loreto (x2) one in this sized tank
Cryptocentrus cinctus (possiby w/pistol shrimp)

Thoughts on total number of fish, compatability issues, etc... I cannot judge how many of similar type fish but I think the first group would be ok, but I would not the second group. The other fish should be fine.

Hi Steve,

I'm agonizing over whether to pull coral and use CP in my DT or go nuts to pull all the fish and get them into QT for cupramine to try and eliminate cryptocaryon from my system once and for all. This question is how I might be able to split the fish into my two 10 gallon spare tanks. Livestock:

3" Kole tang - surprisingly aggressive
2.5" Huchtii Anthias m - also a bit aggressive
1.75" Lyretail f
1.5" Resplendant f
2" Royal Gramma
3" Midas Blenny
2.75" Hoeven's Wrasse
2.5" Yellow Coris Wrasse
2 @ 2" PJ Cardinals.

Question, what if any distribution into two 10g tanks might succeed for 80 days.

Follow on question: How do I catch the Yellow Coris who will bury himself out of view the moment I start to catch fish?

Thank you very much indeed.

Joel, this thread is only about Marine fish compatibility. I do not answer inquiries about Fish Disease treatment except in that forum. Sorry.

i have a coralife biocube 29gallon tank with a 6 gallon refugium on back, so really 23 gallons of swimming space in it, I plan on adding about 25 lbs of live rock with some rubble in the refugium, in the refugium I will have filter floss and ?maybe some activated carbon?. I would like to add some species of leather corals and a xenia or two, with some others down the line. for fish I would like to add a pair of ocellaris clowns and a royal gramma.

how does that setup sound to the experts here

This thread is only about marine fish compatibility, so we do not answer questions about equipment or corals, and is answered only by Reef Central Staff. Your fish stocking plan sounds great.

thanks can you point me towards the the thread where I can get help in choosing corals and with my tank system

What would be the best kind of reef safe and community fish to put in a 125 gallon mixed reef.Any opinions.

I do not provide recommendations for a variety of reasons. However I am always happy to analyze stocking plans provided tank size and maturity are also supplied.

Ok a 125 gallon mixed reef with 150 pounds of live rock 150 pounds of sand a 55 gallon sump with a refugium and a protein skimmer.

Fish ideas

A pair of wyoming whites
A pair of black ice
2 yellow tangs
3 yellow clown gobies
A powder blue tang
A pygmy angel
2 Dispar Anthias
1 Lyretail Anthias
A yellow watchman pistol shrimp pair

Thanks-Gavin

Hey!

50G tank, ~50lbs of LR and 18G sump.

Currently have:
Pair of small ocellaris clowns
1 Firefish
1 Engineer Goby

Want to add a six line wrasse, do you think it will be a problem?

Thanks in advance!

I have a 55 gallon tank with two mandarins, one green, one spotted, and as well as a red scooter blenny. All of them are happy and eating. But I have a ten year sand bed that has live black worms in it and they keep reproducing providing me a stable food supply for them all

Six line wrasses are highly aggressive. The firefish will not do well in that circumstance.
