I have a 20 gal nano with about 15 lbs of live rock 15 lbs of live sand and I'm looking to just keep it simple cause I want It to be my quarantine tank for when I get my 90 gal reef tank going, would it be too much to have a pair or percula clowns and a yellow watchman pistol shrimp pair? They would go in the 90 when I have everything.

should be ok in the short run.

[welcome]

Also I'm starting the 90 gallon tank from the ground up, any tips or tricks anyone would recommend? I'm not a complete newb I had a 90 non reef ready that I tore down because I wanted a reef ready setup, I had some zoas, a torch, hammer coral, with 2 clowns, 2 tangs, fire fish, goby, some chromis, and a cleanup crew. I just want to cover all aspects of restarting this Cause I'm new with using a sump

Just checking to see if you think one of my tank is at capacity. Tanks is 96x22x22, sump is 48x18x16. About 200lbs of LR total. Rockscape has many caves, nocks and crannies.
I change about 20-30 gallons per week. I have the following fish in the tank:
6" Annularis Angel
7" Naso Tang
8" Lunare Wrasse
(3) Squirrelfish 7"/6"/5"
(5) 2" blue Damsels
3" Flame Angel
4" Yellow Tang
Could I add a pair of 5-6" Crosshatch Triggers?
Thanks.

This thread is only answered by Reef Central Staff. If you want general opinions on subjects other than marine fish compatibility, it would be best to start your own thread.

Can I add a Goby or Blenny OK to my 20 gallon?

Can I add a Goby or Blenny OK to my 20 gallon?

I started on the SW side in April. The water parameters have been stable for a while now ... 0 NH3, 0 Nitrite, Nitrate (9 ppm LaMotte, trying to reduce), Alkalinity 10, pH 8.15-8.25, SG 1.025, Calcium 480-500, Phosphate 0 (Hanna), Magnesium ~1400, Copper 0, Temp 77.

I currently have 2 Ocellaris Clownfish about an inch long. Would it be possible to add 1 Goby or Blenny?

Also, currently the top is not covered, do I need a cover for a Goby or Blenny?

All fish can jump; so you have a risk with any fish without a protective top. A goby or blenny would marginally work (your clownfish once mature will want to control about 25 gallons of tank space)

29 Gallon JBJ Intermediate LED AIO Aquarium

29 Gallon JBJ Intermediate LED AIO Aquarium

Hey guys!
I have been keeping freshwater fish for around 8 years now and am starting my first reef tank. I was hoping to get some feedback.

Tank: 29 Gallon JBJ Intermediate LED AIO Aquarium
Protein Skimmer: Innovative Marine Ghost Protein Skimmer
UV Sterilizer: Coralife BioCube UV Sterilizer
Powerhead: Jebao WP-10 Powerhead with Two 266 gph Accela return pumps.
Live Rock: 27 Lbs
Sand Bed: 1.5 Inch
Water Changes: 15-20% Weekly Water Changes

My overall plan is to have this tank consist of mostly soft corals and some LPS.
I will have 2 Amphiprion ocellaris and am still trying to determine what the other inhabitants will be.

In Your Opinion: How many more smaller (1-3 inch) non aggressive fish can I keep in this size tank.
Thanks in advance for the help and sorry for any missed information.

Saltwater is different. Probably 2 behaviorally compatible small fish but it is difficult to give you a number since it would be behavioral aspects that would determine.

Thanks for the advice Snorvich.
Any suggestions on suitable tank mates for the 2 Amphiprion ocellaris ?

As those who follow this thread know, I do not provide recommendations for a variety of reasons; however I am always happy analyze stocking plans for compatibility as long as tank size and maturity are also provided.

Well when the time comes, I will be sure to ask your advice. Thank you again Snorvich. I appreciate the help!

I have a Aqua Reef 500 with standard skimmer, sump etc. I intend to add 50 kg rock and 5 cm Aragonite sand. I estimate a stocking capacity of 80 cm Andy I'm considering three FOWLR options:

1. Medium size community of Bicolor Angel, Coral Beauty, Lamarck's Angelfish, Raccoon Butterfly and Yellow Tang. I assume they all need to be introduced into the tank together.

2. Small schooling fish of 5 Blue Chromis (you won't like that!), 6 Square Back Anthias and 5 Yellow Tail Damsels. Would a Wrasse harem be a better match for some of these others?

3. Carnivore tank with either 2 Volitan Lionfish or 7 Fuzzy Dwarf Lionfish. I'm very reluctant to do this one but it replaces a suggestion to have a Port Jackson shark and Blue spotted Ray tank. I understand that the tank would be too small for sharks and rays - true?

This is an amazing source of information. Thank you for keeping this up Steve. I am a year away from getting anything, but I like to plan ahead. I am thinking a 75 or 100g FOWLR tank w/sump.
The fish list is as follows:
Marine Betta (Comet)
Blue Assessor
Ocellaris Clownfish
Banggai Cardinalfish
Bluespotted Angelfish (if this won't work, would a smaller variety be better?)
Royal Gramma
Onespot Rabbitfish

I am aware of the feeding difficulties for feeding the Comet (at the beginning at least). I tried to search through the pages and pages of previous posts and really haven't seen any list with one, but those guys just seem to have caught my attention. My gut also is telling me that this might be a bit too many fish for the 75, but not the 100. Your thoughts?

Thank you.

Hello all, I am sure none of you remember me but I am still around. Last time I posted I was preparing to leave my tank for 8 months... guess what? it is still around! I attribute this only to having an under stocked and bare bottom system that basically just needs the skimmer emptied, filter sock rinsed and macro trimmed back. My gf did a good job at using the RO unit and giving the powder blue nori. Anyways to make a long story short instead of selling the tank I have decided to keep going and hope I can move everything with me in a year.

Current Stock in a 125 Gal BB tank with ~175 lbs of rock, system is two years old:

Powder Blue tang (5")
Pair of mocha clowns
engineer goby
neon yellow goby
sixline (well mannered)

and a mix of all kinds of coral

Here is what I would like to add to the tank(not all in one day...):

Flame angel

Pyramid butterfly

Kauderns cardinal

lemon chromis

reef chromis

purple dottyback

court jester goby

bulb nem

I know that is getting to the limit of a medium sized tank with no super fancy equipment, just a good ole' fashioned skimmer, filter sock on a drain hose, and a media bag of carbon and phosban once in a while. Tell me where I am wrong!

Thanks all,

Tanner

I would need to know the dimensions of this tank as well as gallonage. I cannot begin to know all the brand name tank sizes. However, I do not provide analysis of option #3.

In general, all seems feasible in the larger option except the angelfish.
