I gave you my best opinions. Dottybacks can also be a PITA except P. fridmani Of course, it is always your choice.

I was not challenging you in anyway, mainly just disappointed. I can scratch the idea of a butterfly if i need to and the dotty back is not at all something i am longing to have.

would a midas blenny be okay?

So after bothering you so much with my inquiry, I have had a change of heart. I really don't want a second large fish, so here goes my new stocking list:

Flame Angel

Bulb Nem

Pair of coral banded shirimp

a small (3-5) group of stop light cardinals

Midas blenny

So after bothering you so much with my inquiry,

Actually no inquiry bothers me in the slightest. My only goal is to have each person be successful with their hobby.

Please do not use colors! No, there should be no interaction. The jawfish would be much more interesting, however. (assumes proper substrate)

The fish list is as follows:
Marine Betta (Comet)
Blue Assessor
Ocellaris Clownfish
Banggai Cardinalfish
Bluespotted Angelfish (if this won't work, would a smaller variety be better?)
Royal Gramma
Onespot Rabbitfish

I am aware of the feeding difficulties for feeding the Comet (at the beginning at least). I tried to search through the pages and pages of previous posts and really haven't seen any list with one, but those guys just seem to have caught my attention. My gut also is telling me that this might be a bit too many fish for the 75, but not the 100. Your thoughts?

Thank you.

In general, all seems feasible in the larger option except the angelfish.

Thanks for the feedback. Two more questions:

1. Is the reason that the angel is bad due to size of the tank or aggressiveness issues? Would a smaller species of angel be a better idea?

2. Would more than one of the banggai cardinal fish or blue assessor be an option?

Thanks again.

While all angels (except Genicanthus) are not reef safe, dwarf angels are more feasible in medium sized tanks

2. Would more than one of the banggai cardinal fish or blue assessor be an option?

A male plus female banggai is feasible and will usually result in mating behavior

Thanks again.

Probably ok; I usually prefer larger tanks for multiple damsels (clowns are damsels)

Hey Steve, I just wanted to give you an update on my Twin Spot Goby. It is doing really well and it has grown since I got it. It's feeding well on reef chili put right into the sand bed (daily feedings) and also some copepods off the lower rocks and is eating some sinking pellet food as well. Just a stroke of good fortune, or it is simply feeding on whatever it can.

I appreciate and value your opinion on the subject and I want you to know that the experience is at least worthwhile in that I have gotten two LFS's to stop carrying them after informing them about them. And I recommend to everyone I can to NOT get one as they really belong in the ocean.

And thanks again for all you do here.

Hey! here's my planned setup for my Nuvo 10g. It is cycled but currently doesn't have inhabitants.

Zoas
Mushrooms
10 blue legs hermit crabs
2 turbo snails
1 porcelain crab
Pearly jawfish (with accommodating pile of crushed coral aragonite mix and a cave in my rock
Green mandarin dragonet (I have a food supply)

If all of this goes really really well for a few months, I was hoping to expand to some other soft corals and a fire fish goby with appropriate hidey holes and rocks near the top of the aquarium.

What do you think?

The jawfish is fine but that should be the only fish in this sized tank. There is no chance of sustaining a mandarin even if you have a food supply.

Thanks for the response Steve! A bit disappointing about the Mandarin. I've always wanted one. I've seen people keep them in a tank that small before? One guy had his for 3 years and it was still going. Possible not probable, maybe?

Also, I've been a bit concerned about the Zoa's toxins. Can they hurt fish that play around in the polyps?

Glad I can at least get a jawfish in there! You said it should be the only one? What would happen if I tried to add a firefish or a neon goby or both down the road? Bioload trouble or aggression?

Steve,

I have a 90g mixed reef tank (w/40 gallon sump) that is about 4 months old. Up until now I only have coral in it as well as a few cucs, brittle stars, and urchins. I have two peppermint shrimp as well.

I currently have the following in my tank:

Kole Tang
Fire fish
Midas Blenny
Long nose Hawk

I am planning to add the following over the next six months to a year, please comment:

Flame Angel (I know that you do not recommend in a reef, but just want to make sure that the fish won't kill each other)
Fairy Wrasse
Anthias (maybe)
Clownfish (maybe)
Scooter Blenny (long term after 1 year minimum)

Thanks for your insight.

Well, you could possibly have two jawfish. A small tank means a low number of fish occupants. Zoanthids will not harm fish.

Hey Steve!

I plan on doing a nano mixed reef:

Tank size: Innovative Marine Nuvo Fusion 20

1 ocellaris clownfish (or a pair)
1 royal gramma
1 firefish
1 Tail-spot blenny
1 clown goby

Assortment of hermit crabs, snails, cleaner shrimp, maybe clams/fan worms/starfish/sea urchin later on

Soft corals, zoas, some LPS.
Probably 20 pounds live rock, 1 inch deep caribsea aragalive Fiji pink sand, no skimmer for now, InTank Media Baskets with filter floss, purigen, chemipure.
How's it look? Thanks, this thread is great!
