I plan on a 20 gallon, with both live rock, and live sand as well as mechaniacal like the aquaeon 10. In this tank I plan on getting a mated pair of Black Ocellaris and a pygmy or flameback angel. As for inverts im not sure bu when the tank starts being put together i will find out soon. Thanks.

Thanks. I wouldn't expect you to be able to predict when chromis would be healthy again. What I meant was, can I add them at any time (assuming they are healthy) without worrying about what order the other fish are added?

a mated pair of clownfish will be all that can be kept (although they really should have a larger tank).

Hello, first post in here, finally getting to the stages of adding stuff.

I've had my 55gallon tank for 2 months and it has cycled and is going through a second bloom (I blacked out the first bloom let it cycle more then water changes)

What I have:
3x golfball sized mexican turbo snail
3x small astrea
2x quarter sized emerald crab
3x small hermits

My levels:
pH around 8.2
nitrite 0
ammonia 0
nitrate 10

I've let the nitrates climb a bit to feed the algae for the CUC and am waiting on a response in another thread to see if this is the right logic.

Ultimately I want to add a psychedelic mandarin but that takes a lot of work and establishing a tank/copepod colony before I can do that. So in the mean time there are other things Id like to add. I will add softcorals down the road but for now Id like thoughts on:

1) clown fish pair
2) sand sifting star
3) cleaner shrimp
4) Court Jester Goby
5) Blue spotted puffer (open to suggestions: I really want one large beautiful fish that can work in a 55 gallon ) I do understand these are "with caution" for reef compatible
6) Thinking about cleaner wrasse too.

edit: im not suggesting all of these things should be in a tank together but more of, what has caught my eye and a start to the tank. They all have to be able to live with a mandarin too

Ok what if I got 2 clowns and a scooter blenny. Would that work or would the bioload be too much for the amount of water? Also what angelfish requires the smallest tank size?

1) clown fish pair depends on species; A. percula and A. ocellaris are the least aggressive once bonded and mated
2) sand sifting star will deplete your sand bed, then starve to death; bad idea
3) cleaner shrimp or two
4) Court Jester Goby will compete with a mandarin for copepods; if you want a mandarin, I would not go this route as sustaining a mandarin in your sized tank will be somewhat difficult
5) Blue spotted puffer (open to suggestions: I really want one large beautiful fish that can work in a 55 gallon ) I do understand these are "with caution" for reef compatible I do not recommend this especially in this sized tank unless it is the only fish; large fish and a 55 gallon tank do not mix
6) Thinking about cleaner wrasse too. not a good idea, especially in a small tank. None of your stocking list will allow cleaning and the cleaner wrasse will drive the other fish crazy. Also, has no effect on parasites

the smallest dwarf angel requires 30 gallons. A pair of clownfish is pushing the boundaries of the tank you selected, adding another fish, especially from the dragonet family is not a good idea.

Hi if you cant tell by the name Im pretty new to this. Been lurking for months reading and finally got the ambition to put to use the 125 gallon tank I received as a wedding present from an inlaw. I have slowly over the course of time gathered the following items
1-250 Jager heater

1- marineland model 3 sump
1 coalife pure flo 50gpd 3 stage w/pump
4 marineland reef capable with time 36' lights
200lbs argonite substrate
75lbs live rock
50lbs dry rock

I am currently cycling the tank have been taking samples to a friend at work to test for me and Im pretty close to the end (ran a cycle with a shrimp left over from a party lol) been at it for 5 weeks 4 days

Am looking to add the following fish getting them soon so I can get them quarantined and happy

citrinis goby x 1
stripped dottyback x 3

already planning to add a group of nass snails and some ceriths before i add the fish prolly as soon as the tank finishes cycling... Wanting to start off small see if i can keep these alive and then branch out... Good bad indifferent?

Subjectively, yes. Centropyge odds are against you. Even ones that initially work, often times wake up one day and start tasting.

35g long (36x12x18) mixed reef with a clam, SPS, LPS (all euphyllias or duncans), and a sarcophyton, have:

2 occellaris clowns
yellowline neon goby
tailspot blenny

I lost my blue-green chromis after a month (mysterious death), and I was wondering if a cherub or coral beauty would work with the above. I know that chromis are experiencing anomalous losses right now, and I suspect that mine was a victim of that.

Yes, there are problems with chromis coming in at the moment. A dwarf angel will not be reef safe.

I would like a nice active fish, actually, but worried about an angel picking on corals. Would a carpenter wrasse work if I put in a lid?

Any of the flasher wrasses, including the carpenter, would work except I do not recommend the 8-line flasher. Quarter inch holes are mandatory.

You could. You need to develop a good quarantine protocol (see my blog for an example). But that is a fairly expensive start to your stocking plan. Have you, perchance, discussed your interests with Kevin?

I will be adding 2 Ocellaris Clown's in about 4 months to my DT to go along with my present fish listed below. I have decided to far go an addition of a Tommy Tang (Ctenochaetus Tominiensis) per having enough acceptable grazers.

Could you please give me recommendations on 1 more suitable fish that would be acceptable with my other tank inhabitants?

2- Pajama Cardinals
1- Coral Angel Beauty
1- One Spot Fox Face
1- Diamond Goby
1- Scooter Blenny

135 gallon rimless cube (36x36x24, 50" on the diagonal). 100 gallon Rubbermaid sump/refugium with 250/300lbs of live rock.

Future additions:

Randall's or yellow goby with pistol shrimp
2 snowflake clowns
Midas blenny
Green mandarin
fairy wrasse to be determined
Copperbanded butterfly
Flame angel
2 Anthias to be determined

How does this list look? Looks like I may be setting myself up for an overstock. If so, how many do I need to remove?
