OK. Im going to recap for your and my sanity.
What I have:
55 gallon tank 40lbs of live rock in DT and 5 in refuge. sump with skimmer.
3x Golfball sized mexican turbo snails
3x emerald crabs
3x astreas
3x small hermits
1x skunk shrimp
1x diamond watchman goby (didnt eat the pellets at first but now seems to like them, is this because he has drained the benthic creatures?, he only sifts the sand in one spot of the tank though. Ill have to figure out how to breed more benthic creatures, thats coming up on my to research list.)
2x ocells (they are getting along great and hardly leave each others side, havent seen either trying to dominate yet)
So i'll start with a new list that in the long run will be ok with a mandarin:
Next desired purchases:
1) anemone, most likely bubble tip. to host clowns.
2) If i want another cleaner shrimp that will have a commensal relationship with a goby should I get a omnivore? all carnivores would not be commensal? I read somewhere that pistol shrimp and tiger snapping shrimp (both carnivores?) have a symbiotic relationship with gobies but what would be a true commensal relationship? I thought commensal was quite close to symbiotic.
3) more hermits & snails
4) bicolor blenny (herbivores eat pellet food?)
5) 2x cardinal fish
6) 3x chromis
7) start breeding pods and feeder shrimp for mandarin/cardinals, goby might like the shrimp too. This will be done in my 20 gallon sump.
8) Maxima Clam (I'd be willing do harvest phytoplankton. I feel like others could benefit from this too
