the neon Tetras in Amano's tank) and I want to make a reef of that tank.

My plan:
2 True Percula Clownfish
1 Banngai Cardinal tank raised preferred
1 Peppermint shrimp
1 Fire shrimp
...
? group of small fish that would hang out a little bit together (I need your help on that one) the only ones like that are red spotted cardinals but they are small enough the cardinal fish would eat them and they are a difficult fish for a new to the hobby. Also, they are difficult shippers so there would be significant mortality in a group brought in. I would look at gobies, flasher wrasses, and possum wrasses instead and feel free to check back for behavioral compatibility.

Thank you

P.S. I hope my message is clear. I speak French so I might make some mistake when writting in English...

I saw the Acares Midget Chromis on Liveaquaria. Do you think that a small group of three would be appropriate or are they as aggressive as the blue/green Chromis ?

Thank you

Tank Parameters:
4ft, 75 gallon tank, overflow box + 20 gallon refugium/sump
ASM mini G protein skimmer
Green Element EVO Quad 48" LED (64x3W)
Temp: 80F
pH: 8.2
Nitrates, Nitrates, Ammonia and Phosphate all undetectable
Apart from two skunk cleaner shrimp, CUC, green bubble-tip anem & various soft corals, the tank is currently fallow due to an ich attach.

Current fish in QT:
Yellow watchman goby
Six-line wrasse
1 firefish and 1 purple firefish (appear to have paired up) highly doubtful, you will not know for a few months until one disappears

Once these are back in the main display, I will keep the QT up and running for new arrivals. I would like to add the following:

1 or 2 Banggai cardinals (if I can find a pair) tank bred is essential for these
Neon blue goby
Pistol shrimp to pair with the watchman goby two shrimp also work but only one goby
Orchid dottyback (appears to be the least aggresive dottyback based on forum research). correct, but only marginally ok if you do flasher wrasses

All of the above will be bought from tank-bred sources.

I think the tank is large enough to not overload the biomass, but I'd love your opinion on general compatibility. Although the 6-line wrasse is always active but peaceful, I hear it may become more aggressive over time. Would the cardinals suffer due to their more peaceful nature?

the most likely to suffer are the firefish and the P. fridmani. Cardinal fish do not occupy the same ecological niche as six line wrasses and should be ignored.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Grant

hey i'm back (hopefully ur not sick of me asking so many questions). So i think i finally got my tank stocking list down. allrite so here it is: 1-Maroon Clownfish, 1-Yellow Tang, 1-BlueThroat Trigger, 1-Koran Angelfish, and i would also like 1 more tang but i was hoping u could help me decide, I would love a powder blue but i've heard they are very sensitive and would 2 tangs be okay? this is still the 125 gallon reef, the fish i cannot take off the list is the maroon clown but all the others are changeable if they are not compatible.

oh could i also maybe add a Harlequin Tusk to that mix? I know they r can eat other fish but i feel the fish i have will be big enough to defend themselves. Thanks for all ur help.

You have a lot of largish fish in a moderately sized tank. Two tangs without an angel would be ok, but the yellow would have to be the last fish in the tank.

Is there any Anglefish i could put in there( besides dwarf angelfish) if not thats ok? thank you

The problem is that two fish of approximate equal size occupying the exact same ecological niche need larger territories than you are providing. However, I am not really geared up to have an ongoing dialog with you or any individual. From now on, I will only answer one post per day from you on this thread and the rest of the time you can read and research until the following day.

Which of the following three dwarf angels would you consider the most difficult to keep or most aggressive towards other fish?
Coral Beauty
Flame Angel
Eibli Angel

I know that way back when I got my stocking list "approved" from you, I needed to pick two of these angels, but didn't know which one would be the most "risky" per se....

Thanks again.

Coral Beauty The two easiest to keep are coral beauty and flame angel; introduction concurrently would be best if possible

Eibli Angel

Stocking Suggestions

Stocking Suggestions

Hey snorvich,

I am in the process of re-setting up my tank after I moved. I want to start a predator heavy reef tank. I have a 240g display with 20g fuge and 40g sump. I was wondering if you wouldn't mind giving me some suggestions and maybe a little information on the fish my wife and I would really like to have in the tank. And if you believe they would all be compatable with each other.

5 - Schooling Bannerfish (False Moorish Idols)
1 - Indigo Hamlet
1 - Snowflake Moray Eel
1 - Antennata Lionfish

A Lionfish and an Eel are a must have for the tank. My wife would really like to have a puffer of some sort and the only one she has found and liked was a Papuan Toby. I am in the process of attempting to convince her into not getting a puffer as they will eat the coral, rocks and fins of the other fish. Coral will be Acropora and Monti heavy with at least one Ricordea Farm. We will not have any inverts in the tank. There are not that many fish selected yet either and to help with algea I was thinking of having a Sailfin Tang and Yellow Bellied Hippo Tang. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks for the response Snorvich. I will stay away from the dotty back. I was surprised about the firefish too but they stay together all the time and even use the same cave for hiding/sleeping.

Best,

Grant

I forgot to give you my tank's dimensions. It is 96" x 24" x 24". Also, thought knowledge regarding my waterflow may also limit or change some of your suggestions. I use a Pondmaster 1800 as my return pump and to mimic the return flow on the opposite side of the tank I have a JBJ 2400 with a "Y" attachted it. The general water flow is supplied by three Sicces though, 2 Sicce Voyager 4s and 1 Voyager 3. The Voyager 3 (1200gph) is located in the center back wall facing foward at a slight upward direct with it difusser dialed slightly (one turn) to the right. The two Voyager 4s (1600gph) are each half way between the Voyager 3 and the Overflow box on each side with the same set-up as the Voyager 3. All three are hooked up to the Sicce Wave Surfer alternating between the Voyager 3 and then both Voyger 4s every 45 seconds. The return and JBJ pump are both mounted on the overflow boxes facing each other.

Sorry, but I do not provide analysis of aggressive fish tanks. Best resource for this is the Aggressive Fish Forum

It takes months, however, then one will disappear.

Hello. I have a 75 gallon tank with a 36 gallon sump/fuge. I have 80 lbs of live rock in the tank with a few corals(Hammer coral and about 8 different breeds of zoa's). I have about 100 hermit crabs, 10 "zombie snails", 2 turbo snails, 2 regular clown fish, 2 green chromis. I'm wanting to add a nice Tang or something like that. Is a standard 75 gallon(48" long) enough space for a tang to do well in? Thanks for the input!
