thanks, steve! the dottyback is tiny, only about 1". would this make any difference or does "small but mighty" apply?

I have a 90g with a 20g sump (~50% full). Right now I've got 2 ocellaris clownfish, 3 pajama cardinalfish, 2 pencil urchins, and 2 small frogspawns. I plan to get a diamond goby, 2 Bangaii cardinalfish, a flame angelfish, and a Kole tang. After that I might do some easy type of coral, but I haven't really done a lot of research on that since it's pretty far in the future. The only reason I have the frogspawn is because they came with the tank and sand. Is there anything I should avoid or watch out for?

As noted above

They are indeed, small but mighty. Best choice is P. fridmani but even these can be a PITA.

so, if i understand correctly, i can have both fish in the same tank? always thought those were very pretty so that would work for me. :)

If you mean the long nosed hawkfish, yes, it can go with what you have (although not with shrimp or very small fish)

New fish for 34 gallon

New fish for 34 gallon

Pair of black/white clowns, royal gramma, purple fire fish? Plan to have corals, a clam, cleaner shrimp, cuc, not sure about crabs and hermits.

Will that work? 34 gallon Solana cube

90 gallon mixed reef

Current stock: Kole Tang
ocellaris clown
purple firefish
coral beauty
lyretail anthias
bangaii cardinal
midas blenny
golden dwarf moray eel
mandarin

I want to add a schooling bannerfish (heniochus diphreutes)

Yes. Firefish are prolific jumpers so you will need a top with 1/4 inch mesh.

The midas blenny will nip fins of largish water column fish. Otherwise, fine

Hello all! i have a 180g tank. would like to be open to most types of coral in the future and would like to stock my tank accordingly (reef safe??)
currently have:
2 Blue/Green Reef Chromis (Chromis viridis)
1 Splendid Dottyback (Pseudochromis splendens)
1 Bluespotted Watchman Goby (Cryptocentrus pavoninoides)
1 Sleeper Banded Goby (Amblygobius phalaena)
1 Blonde Naso Tang (Naso elegans)
1 large cleaner shrimp plus asst crabs and snails

wish list (in order of what i want most)

Longnose Atlantic Butterflyfish (Prognathodes aculeatus)
Blue Tang (Paracanthurus hepatus)
Yellow Tang (Zebrasoma flavescens)
Harlequin Tusk (Choerodon fasciatus)
Bartlett's Anthias (Pseudanthias bartlettorum) (1 or 2?)
2 Firefish (Nemateleotris magnifica)
Coral Beauty Angelfish (Centropyge bispinosa)
Lemonpeel Angelfish (Centropyge flavissima)
Flame Angelfish (Centropyge loriculus)
Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus carpenteri) (2?)

would all of these work together? from bottom to top, which of these should i cross off to have enough room for the others? thank you in advance for your time!

Reef Central's minimum recommended size for tangs can be found here. As ;you can see, an 8 foot tank is recommended for some larger tangs or active feeders.

2 Blue/Green Reef Chromis (Chromis viridis)
1 Splendid Dottyback (Pseudochromis splendens) will limit certain tank mates because of aggressiveness
1 Bluespotted Watchman Goby (Cryptocentrus pavoninoides)
1 Sleeper Banded Goby (Amblygobius phalaena)
1 Blonde Naso Tang (Naso elegans) needs a larger tank
1 large cleaner shrimp plus asst crabs and snails probably inconsistent with a Harlequin Tusk

wish list (in order of what i want most)

Longnose Atlantic Butterflyfish (Prognathodes aculeatus)
Blue Tang (Paracanthurus hepatus) needs a larger tank
Yellow Tang (Zebrasoma flavescens) housing this number of tangs together in a six foot tank will be difficult for long term behavioral compatibility.
Harlequin Tusk (Choerodon fasciatus) aggressive, will eat small fish
Bartlett's Anthias (Pseudanthias bartlettorum) (1 or 2?)
2 Firefish (Nemateleotris magnifica) two only if a bonded male plus female pair for long term survival of both
Coral Beauty Angelfish (Centropyge bispinosa)
Lemonpeel Angelfish (Centropyge flavissima)
Flame Angelfish (Centropyge loriculus)
Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus carpenteri) (2?) inconsistent with dottyback above

It is not a "room" issue but more a behavioral issue. The longer a tank, the greater the probability of peaceful coexistence when fish of the same ecological niche are housed together.

so cross off blue tang, tusk, and wrasse and the rest would be ok?

Possibly. 3 tangs in a six foot tank in the very long run may be a problem. The yellow tang would be the biggest problem. Also, no flasher wrasses with the dottyback you have.

57 gallon 36x18x20...

Melanarus Wrasse
Yellow Wrasse
Midas blenny
Cherub Angel
Clarkii clown

Would it be possible to add a tank raised orchid dottyback? Thanks
