except as noted, should be fine

Tank is a standard 90 gallon. Current inhabitants:

Yellow headed Jawfish
Chalkbass
Mandarin
Royal Gramma
Tailspot Blenny
Flasher Wrasse

Could I add a mystery wrasse to the group? Or would he & the flasher wrasse duke it out?

Not compatible with either the flasher wrasses or mandarin

Hi I just upgraded from a 30g to a 75 with a 30g sump. I have 2 true Percula clowns, a blue damsel, and a bicolor dotty back in the tank now with a med cuc of snails and hermits also a small colony of zoas a ricordea mushroom and a blue mushroom. I know I want a orange diamond goby also plan on a Maderine once the tank matures. My wife wants some really colorful fish and I want one or two bigger fish any suggestions

that will limit what fish you can keep due to its aggressive nature

As those who follow this thread know, I do not provide recommendations for a variety of reasons. I am always happy to review stocking lists, however, as long as tank size is also provided.

I was thinking about getting rid of the damsel in that case, fine

and how big of a tank does the tang need Reef Central suggests an 8 foot 240 gallon tank (the fish gets mean when mature, and grows quickly to over a foot). Sadly the film has resulted in the the mistreatment of many a P. hepatus

I was also looking at a common cleaner wrasse but I don't know much about them

Several things:

+ They do nothing to prevent parasites
+ Their survival rate in aquaria is poor
+ Not all fish will allow cleaning
+ One with best survival rate is from Africa and consequently more expensive

What niche does the mandarin occupy with the mystery wrasse? Or are they just known to hate each other?

Both are consumers of copepods which in a very large tank may be a non-issue. However the question was asked with regard to a tank size that is marginal for a mandarin. Mystery wrasses can be aggressive towards shrimp, some other wrasses, mandarins and potentially pseudochromis. Pretty fish, but can be on the aggressive side.

First tank

First tank

Hey everyone! I'm new to the hobby and would appreciate any direction that can be given. I inherited a 20 gallon tank that was had 3 pieces of like rock, 2 ocellaris (one orange and white, and one black and white), and a round headed goby (sand sifter). I've had the tank running for the last two months.

I've been in the process of changing it over to a small reef tank. I have switched the live rock around by adding tonga rock and branches (probably takes up about 25% of the tank). I got rid of the goby cause he was dumping sand all over the place which would be a pain with corals. I have added a few small corals that were given to me; green hairy mushroom, red mushroom (frag), blue mushrooms (on small rock), some polyps (on small rock), paly grandis (frag), and green trumpet (frag).

My neighbor and I built some leds (18 inches long, four blue, four white, one green, and one red).

In addition to the 2 clowns that I have in there, I have 2 red legged hermits, 3 blue legged, 2 turbo snails, 2 Nessarius snails, 5 Cerith snails, and one that spends most of its time under sand (has a shovel like face and long shell). There is also one small crown conch and one fighting conch, and a good sized blood shrimp (approx. 3 inches).

In addition my salinity is at 0.125%, phosphates near 0, nitrates and ammonia at 0.

I would like to add more fish to the tank, but I do not want to overcrowd. The two clowns stay at the top near the filter (wish they swam around more). I would really like a six-line wrasse cause they stay small, they're cheap, and fun to look at but I heard that you want to introduce them last. Not sure if I could add two (maybe one male and one female). Maybe I can add something else before the wrasse? Maybe Firefish, Dottyback, Royal Gramma Basslet?

Any advice on the fish and corals that I might be able to add would be great! The wife says if I keep everything alive for the next year or two then I can get my large tank built into the wall :spin1:

actually, a tank of this size would be overstocked if you added more fish especially once the clownfish are sexually mature and mating

they are exceptionally aggressive, especially in a small tank

well, with that as an incentive, I would not add fish

haha... Thank you for your advice Steve! I definitely want to have a great outcome with this tank. Do you think it is possible to add an anemone for the clowns to host? Maybe I can bring them down out of the top of the tank. And do you think it is possible for them to breed in this type of setup? Even with one being orange and the other black?

Hello,

I am currently cycling a 50 liter (14 gallon) tank, it's a nano reef and so the plans for fish stock are quite simple.

2x ocellaris clownfish
1x ?????
Clean up crew
Live rock (already in there)

Still have to decide on the live coral to put in there, I am a beginner so any advice is welcome. Also, where I put the "????" It's because I am not sure on what fish to put there, something aesthetic yet compatible, I know there are many options but I would love to know what you would do.

Thank you for your time
